    It was that pico video from over two years ago that first got me tuned into your channel. Now I’ve been using this plug-in for several months and it is great. I’m using “convert to shortcut” to turn the up-and-down buttons into dimmers. The developer is very responsive too.

    As a member of your channel, I learned about this Homebridge plug-in from Brad also (membership has its privileges 😀.) It is an awesome tip. Thank you for bringing it to your channel Shane. I had a couple extra PICO remotes sitting around that came as part of a package. I didn’t have a need for one of them with my Lutron gear, but it is an awesome five button switch for me now that fits right in my existing wall plate! (I did have to go to Home Depot and pick up a Caseta pico wall plate adapter for about seven dollars.) I almost bought a Wemo for this, but then I saw how super quick they run out of batteries .😞This is an excellent alternative that works great and looks super nice because it fits in with your existing switches.

    Hey Shane, I actually contacted Lutron to recommend that they should update their bridge firmware to add this functionality internally for the picos! I’ve always thought it would be the smartest move they could ever make. Since their bridge already supports HomeKit, you would think it would be pretty easy for them! If enough of us write to Lutron about this maybe they’ll get the point. And I hope they see this fantastic video and take it to heart! Great Great job!👍

    Cool use of the two Shanes for the Sponsorship ad. Eve should take note. I usually don't like adding too much battery stuff to my home and like wired solutions as much as possible. All of my Lutron Caseta switches are wired switches including all of my three-way switches (no Pico remotes). But you have made a great use case for using the Pico remote to control other non-Lutron devices and that would keep all of the wall switches looking the same. I really like the idea of replacing the Flic switch with a Pico Remote and then using a three-gang switch plate to cover all three switches. Food for thought. I always appreciate the time and effort you put into your videos and the clever ways you present the content and ads. Keep up the great work.

    Thank you sir! I appreciate the support. Regarding batteries... I think the Pico Remotes are said to have a 10 year battery life, or something crazy like that. So if you're gonna use battery devices, it's probably a good one to choose.

    I have Pico remotes all over my house. Through HASS, I set up single-press, double-press, and hold for most of the buttons. On the 5-button dimmer remote, that is 15 different functions in this $20 remote. I used automations to use each function for different lights/scenes. For example, I use the center "favorite" button to cycle through colors of RGB lights. Yes, non-Lutron. These little switches are the best, most cost effective buttons out there

    You should check out the the "Homebridge Pico" plug in far superior in my opinion since you can do a single, double or long press for each button on the Pico. I use this extensively throughout my house. One of my favorite is long pressing on my pico at the stair case to turn off the whole floor as I go up to bed.

    You can also get the Lutron lamp controller, that plugs into the wall….it is homekit compatible and IFTTT compatible. Since it is a dimmer control it can be set from 1%-100%. So if you use it….don’t plug it into any lamps….you can have an IFTTT for each setting…so when you hit a button it sets it to 10%…for example….then you set homekit so when it changes to 10%, an automation runs….then resets it to 0. You can do different automations for each % setting.

    There's not a great way to do timers in homekit natively. The best solution is for those using Homebridge or Hoobs. You can create virtual switches, or timers, that can be utilized in automations.

    You missed a pretty big application for this - HomeKit Adaptive Lighting with physical wall controls (fam friendly). You could have a bunch of smart bulbs that support HKAL that are controlled by something that installs/looks/operates similar to a conventional lighting control. This was only possible previously within the Philips Hue ecosystem. Not sure if you could use a Brilliant controller to do similar but that’s even pricier than Hue. Now if we could get Nanoleaf to release a BR30 and/or some recessed inserts….

    Hey! I have and want more Nanoleaf lights and also have Aqara. Not quite ready to add Lutron to my home, so wanting advice on what would work better. Do Aqara smart switches only work with the items plugged into them as an on/off and timer? If so, should I look into an Aqara smart button or Wemo Scene controller for on/off plus some customization of color or with other accessories? Wanting as much Aqara (for zigbee) or Thread as possible to not need additional hubs and stay off wifi and bluetooth

  • @ShaneCreates

    @ShaneCreates

    2 жыл бұрын

    Aqara light switches control the hard wired light fixture that they are wired to. If you want something to control any homekit accessory, you need to look at smart buttons/scene controllers. The Aqara wireless mini switch is a very fast, reliable option if you already have an Aqara hub. The Wemo Stage is also a good option, although the battery life isn’t as good.

    It can be done through a Shortcut automation, but it's an exhausting process. I used ranges (e.g., if Light brightness is between X% and Y%, set to 5% lower than Y%) so you can still use your phone or Siri to set it to any value and have the buttons work. Not using ranges (e.g., if Light brightness is 75%) wont trigger if the brightness is 72%, for example. I can try and take a screenshot of my Shortcut if you'd like to take a look.

    I noticed this too, it’s kinda hiding in HomeKit. Whichever room you added the pico too in the Lutron app, click on the arrow beside the same room in HomeKit. That opens that room in HomeKit and the pico switch is there. You can than add to Home view.

    UPDATE: I received a reply from HOOBS support. They did a fix so anyone looking to use this in HOOBS, remove the Lutron casita leap plugin, clear the hub cache from the hub settings menu and then install the plugin. When you go to the configuration screen you'll be greeted by the pair your Lutron hub page in which you'll have 30 seconds to press the button on the back of the hub. Once you do that, save it and restart your HOOBS instance. Get it into HomeKit and enjoy!! Thanks Shane Whatley for bringing this plugin to our attention!!

    @@ShaneCreates Shane, I’m confused. I also found this: Lutron Integration Since you were wondering if Lutron Caseta uses ZigBee or Z-Wave, perhaps you were looking for ways to integrate Lutron with your home system. To integrate Lutron Caseta with other home automation systems you will need the Smart Bridge Pro. Do not confuse the Pro version with the non-pro Smart Bridge, as this does not allow third-party integrations. Once you have the Lutron Smart Bridge Pro setup, you can integrate with a whole host of popular smart systems, including IFTTT, SmartThings, Wink, and the all three of the big Voice Assistants. Given these integrations, you can create just about any home automation you desire.

When I try to use the plugin with HOOBS, it installs with no error messages, I go to configuration and I get 4 fields to put information into but no description of what information its looking for or how to obtain it. The log files indicates an error and the bridge doesn't start either. I really would like to have this plugin working in HOOBS so if anyone got it going in HOOBS, let us know the secret please!!
