Lupe Fiasco- Mean & Vicious

Mean & Vicious
Lyrics:
uh
He's meannnnnn
and vicious
I cant believe hes that rude
To those stories those rhymes that jew
Then he put 'em on the floor like cat food
And put 'em on the track like glue
Then put 'em on your head like hat
Hey back to you lou black power
Im just running with a barrel full of black powder
Wita hole in it hole in it wheezin deep, breathin
Running from the fire on the trail i keep leavin
I cant shake it i swear its heat seekin
I keep seekin somewhere to hide from it i can die from it
But it keep keepin up just when i think that ive done it
It keep sneakin up
Ohh leakin barrel of black powder how that flame keep reachin us
Just one of the long rended extended metaphors alose
This time I use an example of a fuse
to demonstrate how i cant lose
I would put it down but i cant due to the glue
that i use the fuse everything together
well i spill some on my hands
and God Damn i might have to carry this forever
Well im crazy to the game till they bury me insane
Chorus:
There once was a boy that grew up on the west side of chicago
Liked his hat to the left side
Wasn't in a gang but he was prone to bang
doing his thangg doin his thang
There once was a boy that grew up on the west side of chicago
Liked his hat to the left side
Wasn't in a gang but he was known to bang like
doing his thangg doin his thang
Truthfully I have trouble with second versus
Cuz the first one be so intimidating
It'd be bullyin' and pickin on it instigatin
pointin out all the second ones limitations
like you aint nothing but an imitation
like bitcha bakin then it gets the chorus
and the beat to together then they gang up on him and get to hatin
but then around the 8th bar he tired
so they conspire and comiseratin then he fin' his inspiration
to spar he takes a few seconds of judo lessons
gets back on beat then punches the guitar
they stand in awe like when did you write that
they even right black
first verse already happened
so he don' have a chance to fight back
i like that
Abagnale Junior check me
you gon respect me
a 8 track listen to em feelin himself
swagger up and a few ad libs to back it up
lets back it up
i think youve had enough
give me my mic back
you aint even write that
oh its like that?
track stop pumpin till this nigga stop frontin
yeah yeah now right back
Chorus:
There once was a boy that grew up on the west side of chicago
Liked his hat to the left side
Wasn't in a gang but he was prone to bang
doing his thangg doin his thang
There once was a boy that grew up on the west side of chicago
Liked his hat to the left side
Wasn't in a gang but he was known to bang like
doing his thangg doin his thang
Oh my god
my perils in my odds
I aint really here what you hear is a mirage
This aint the delivery baby this is just Lamaze
The ice cream and pickles tickle and a massage
The king author of the knight eldibage
the camafouge water in the distance
loggin a camel to get there wit the quickness
mean and vicious
grinch who stole christmas and hid it in the garage
there was a collage a barrage that brought all things to help this thing start
jump jump, my battery charge
im bout my green like string beans and beans from ma's
its a mean thing to be seen with ours
got that f&f homie im a young lil thriller
i will resurrect homie come back for my killa
in some disheveled apparel with that same leakin' barrel insane
Chorus:
There once was a boy that grew up on the west side of chicago
Liked his hat to the left side
Wasn't in a gang but he was prone to bang
doing his thangg doin his thang
There once was a boy that grew up on the west side Of chicago
Liked his hat to the left side
Wasn't in a gang but he was known to bang like
doing his thangg doin his thang
its meaaannnnnn
and vicious

verse 2, greatest thing ive ever heard. verse 1 second and verse 3 3rd. my top 10 are all from lupe songs. ppl you have no idea what lupe just did here. there are about 12 Literary principles in this song. the similes, metaphors, personification, paradigms, imagery, parallelism, juxtapositions, syllepsises, irony, rhyme scheme, and aphorisms are just a few, all found in this song..lol not many eng proffesrs can evn write anthng that has that many principles of literature in it. Borderline Genious.

Adrienne Soto He said he has trouble writing second verses because he doesn't want to clone his first verse and wants to do better, so at about around the 8th bar he finally does then proceeds to write a 3rd. His verses are actually quite simple to understand... Maybe you just weren't trying.

@THEALLSTARMLB2009 Frankly Lupe's metaphors and lyrics aren't due to his lack of maturation or whatever you're trying to imply, he refuses to dumb down his songs which he already has done quite a bit(and they still go over people's heads). I personally would not want him to make his lyrics easier I love finding the double meanings and hidden context in his songs.

@ZaviahIV Although i agree with some of your points, his flow isn't the best, but multi-syllabe rhymes are always present with this guy, and all the things he said ARE there, in addition to a lot of wordplay and subtle double-meanings. A lot of rappers utilize those, but almost none do it as well as Lupe. And he is Borderline Genius.

It's about extentions because he says extended earlier in the verse, and black powder is gun powder I believe, although I'm sure Lupe was using it as a metaphor for something else. That's the thing about Lupe's music, you gotta listen to every word and remember what he said to understand the rest of the song, and it's usually left somewhat open for interpretation. He uses alot of double meanings. Lupe's a genius but he's so complex you gotta be in a real analytical mood to even listen to it. 1

few corrections on lyrics... 1) Wita (hole in it hole in it) wheezin deep, ---hole in it holdin it 2) I keep seekin somewhere to hide from it (i can die from it ) --- duck and dive from it 3)Just one of the long rended extended metaphors (alose) --- o' Lu's 4) like (bitcha bakin) then it gets the chorus --- bits of bacon {the fake bacon brand} but yeah, one of Lu's nastiest songs lyrically as far as metaphor continuity, 2nd verse was just...sick, describing the verse as he's rhyming it...quality

I never implyed that he should dumb down his songs or that he will not be a great rapper when he reaches age 38. I think Lupe is one of the best rappers around and I hope he continues to rap for as long as he can.

oh gosh people the barrel methaphor ain't hard to interpret...the "trail he is leaving" is his lyrical ability, so that wherever he raps his lyrics always leave an impression on people who listen and the "fire" he is talkin about is the fame or fans that follow him whenever he drops his lyrics. and he mentions the 'glue" which says that he won't be able to stop being the lyrical genius that he is because he can't put down the "barrel"... quite simple!
