Today the moon is on our side as we study the Lunar Sorcery Sorcerer. Will this new addition live up to the others that came before or will it be eclipsed?

I honestly think you nailed this one , it's a fun subclass but the aberrant mind and clockwork are a lot stronger in more situations. This has strong features for more niche situations and that might come in clutch in a couple of encounters. But it's consistency vs a chance to be the strongest if things go just right. That being said I'd still play the heck out of it. Just for flavor I'd go eladrin elf so it's seasons and the phase of the moon to play with in rp . Plus you get the teleport

Have we gotten an explanation for the issues with the previous build being cut off halfway through?

I have been on vacation but I am looking at it tonight. I have rendered it 3 times now at the full length of 23 minutes but it keeps cutting it off. I am going to be looking at it again tonight and reuploading when I get it figured out.

@@DapperSnapperGaming A reply from the dapper himself! A “vacation” is a nice word for “I’m busy bringing new life into this world wtf” Love the content bud. Hope the channel keeps growing and definitely hope everything is all good on your end. I will just say… the only reason I asked is because that was definitely one of the best of the build breakdowns so far (halfway through). We’ll live if it can’t work out haha

Every sorcerer gets this ability from the Player's Handbook, though. "Additionally, when you gain a level in this class, you can choose one of the sorcerer spells you know and replace it with another spell from the sorcerer spell list, which also must be of a level for which you have spell slots." Seems pretty cut and dried that the Lunar Sorcerer can replace spells they "know", and the Lunar Embodiment says "You Learn..."

That feature only applies to those manually chosen in the Spellcasting feature. The only official exception to that is in the Aberrant Mind and Clockwork Soul. These specifically give alternative rules

@@DapperSnapperGaming where does it say anything like that? Yes, the AM and CS subclasses have DIFFERENT rules in that they can switch to non-sorcerer spells, but I see nothing excluding any sorcerer subclass from using the generic sorcerer feature. Am I missing it someplace?

It is just that the swappable ability only applies to spells gained from the same feature. You don't gain the spells from lunar through Spellcasting, they therefore would not qualify to be swapped. Even if they could, you run the risk of tanking the effectiveness of the subclass because just because you can swap out something, it wouldn't change what is listed on the table because there is no wording that allows it. So if you replaced Ray of Sickness, then you would not be able to cast that spell for free as it is not on the table. Across the community, it seems that the consensus is that the spells are locked in on the table as far as I can tell.

@@DapperSnapperGaming "It is just that the swappable ability only applies to spells gained from the same feature." Where does this come from? Because I'm not sure it is logically consistent. If the statements listed under SPELLCASTING only apply to 'spells gained from the same feature,' then that would also mean that your spell slots, spellcasting ability, saving throw DC and spell attack roll modifier would ALSO only apply to that particular feature, and there would be no definition for those things on the spells from Lunar Embodiment. I'm trying to understand from the actual wording of the actual written and published rules, not from what people want it to say. One of the guiding principles of the game rules is that "Specific trumps General." This is even specifically called out on page 4 of Tasha's Cauldron of Everything. And in the absence of a specific rule contradicting a general rule, the general rule remains in effect. The General rule in this case comes from the base Sorcerer class, PHB page 101 (copied from D&D Beyond): "Spells Known of 1st Level and Higher You know two 1st-level spells of your choice from the sorcerer spell list. The Spells Known column of the Sorcerer table shows when you learn more sorcerer spells of your choice. Each of these spells must be of a level for which you have spell slots. For instance, when you reach 3rd level in this class, you can learn one new spell of 1st or 2nd level. Additionally, when you gain a level in this class, you can choose one of the sorcerer spells you know and replace it with another spell from the sorcerer spell list, which also must be of a level for which you have spell slots." From this, we can see that once you have "Learned" a spell, you then "Know" the spell. Lunar Embodiment uses the same wording, "You learn additional spells when you reach certain levels in this class." All of the spells on the Lunar Embodiment table are thereafter treated as Sorcerer Spells for you, same as any other sorcerer spells you now know. And I contend that, Rules as Written, the spells on the LE table may indeed be swapped in the same one-at-a-time process as for any other sorcerer spell you know. Without the existence of Aberrant Mind and Clockwork Soul, this probably wouldn't even be debatable. Both of those subclasses have similar tables under the abilities "Psionic Spell" and "Clockwork Magic," respectively. Those abilities grant ANOTHER way to replace spells, adding school restrictions and expanding the spell lists to draw from; but they both left intact the original base method that all sorcerers get, referenced above. The lack of such wording in the Lunar Sorcerer's Lunar Embodiment paragraphs does not eliminate the original, general rule, "...you can choose one of the sorcerer spells you know and replace it..." It very well may be that the authors meant the rules to work like you say and for the Lunar Embodiment spells to be a static list, but they don't appear to have said as much in the actual wording of the rules. FWIW, I do agree that if I were to swap out Ray of Sickness, for example, that the replacement spell would not qualify for the daily free casting, since the rule specifically calls out the spells in the table. I'm glad to have discovered your channel, and I thank you for your ideas and suggestions! I look forward to viewing more of your videos!
