Yes, absolutely enchanting. The music of the master is a joy to the senses. The costumes are beautiful and I wish there were more. I have loved the music of Jean-Baptiste Lully ever since I discovered him.

What a beautiful production!

I ever asked myself, why two dancing kids or teens represent "les zephyrs" in this production. The role of kids at court of Louis must have been a very special one, i guess....here, the two zephyrs seem to have much authority. To me, this scene tells a little story of life at court, like many scenes in this wonderful production....

Emouvant quelle beauté....

God, how beautiful those golden-haired Zephyrs are! How splendid is their dance and Lully's music! France has always been the cultural pinnacle of the world!

Absolument je trouve que les mises en scène revisitées ne vont guère avec la musique baroque voire classique. En revanche je pense que l'opéra romantique s'y prête bien mieux (et l'opéra moderne évidemment)

Le plus drôle, et le plus révélateur, cela vient de gens qui, n'en doutons pas, se proclament les vrais démocrates à longueur de journée. Les metteurs en scène visés par le propos qui vous irrite (au point d'oublier l'éducation à laquelle vous prétendez probablement) cherchent puérilement n'importe quoi pour faire exister leur petite personne à côté de ces grands compositeurs. Récemment ils nous ont fait des Indes galantes à la mode métro parisien. Après une Carmen pute assise sur le capot d'une bagnole, pouah. Ce qu'on appelle une grande gueule dans la vie courante, c'est tout à fait ça : quand on à rien à dire, on le dit très fort. ;-)

El genio de Lully se muestra en todo su esplendor en la Entre des Zephires; a mi me parece una escena extraordinaria y Christie ha sabido encontrar el ritmo adecuado, solemne y gracioso al mismo tiempo. Y hay que destacar el formidable "pas de deux" al unisono: no recuerdo una pieza de danza de pareja com ésta. Los dos adolescentes disfrutan bailando, sonriendose entre ellos y generando una atmosfera que me parece única. Bravo por todos ellos y, a ver quien se atreve a mejorar.lo !.

The opera in these days just makes me not to go to see it ....the scenical introduction is often "to modern " - thank you, I do not wish. I Will rather watch here The Zephyres.😊

. I was at the Opera Comique and I can tell you the performance of this "new" Atys was out of words. It's difficult to say if 1987 performance was better if you just watch 2011 on video only. I recorded 1987 on tape on french tv You need to watch Atys LIVE, it's all I can say. So, if one day you can see Atys live, I think you will change your mind.

I saw it on vidéo. Un chef d'œuvre 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍 Parfait en tout aussi drole que subtil avec des décors et des costumes à pleurer. Merci monsieur Christie William qui m'a fait découvrir cette pièce maîtresse du baroque français.

I watched both productions (1987 and 2011) only in video and I still prefer the 1987´s. Cibele is, for me, the best character, and Guillemette Laurens that incarnated that mythological figure in 1987 vraiment ressemblait plus à une déesse-mère. I like Stephanie D´Oustrac but I find she is sometimes exaggerated in her manners. And concerning the zephirs dance, just compare the footwork of the dancers in both productions.

What form of dance is this, can someone please tell me (e.g., gigue, pavane, some type of "step for", i.e. "pas de", quadrille, polonaise, etc...)?! I would be greatly indebted. I am trying to learn and thus develop a foundation of understanding around the dance forms from which the compositional forms blossomed.

Anne-Marie Gardette and Ana Yepes were not surpassed in this production.This dance performance in 1987´s production was much better. The world changed a lot since them and the muses and the spirits of arts do not abandon us completely yet just for pity not for deserving.

It's an odd thing, but the period costumes so there have a little too well. They're meant to elongate people and make them look taller, but on people of modern height, it makes them like Elven. Or like people out of a fever dream.

Absolutely delightful and very Duc d'Orleans (look it up, brother of Louis XIV). We just also contemplate the slaves and peasants of France who paid to uphold this unworthy and untenable situation where 20,000 nobles profited from the labor of 20,000,000 peasants for two centuries. Please, viewer, spare us your unlimited admiration,. You watch slaves building and butressing Versailles. The building and maintenance of Versailles bankrupted France for 200 years. How uncomfortable because we love the gold leaf and splendor. But this is what Lous XIV built: a national catastrophe. Napoleon tried to undo it all but it was all too late and the oozing wounds could not be staunched and France bled to the marrow. We thank the French for showing us all how to go down with oboes and clarinets and viola da gambas blazing while the rest of the world and Versailles itself burn immolate in the night sky amid freakish fireworks. And this is why our world will burn now bcz you and I we are they, those same haughty courtiers watching from the backstage while the pretty boys filigree and dance like zyphers and butterfliees thinking FOREVER
