I used to sell LLR and realized pretty quickly I could not keep up with the heavy hitters. They bought out all the good stuff so us lowly sellers couldn’t get anything but the worst of the worst. However, I paid the initial $5k buy in and didn’t place any more orders (because I literally couldn’t) and got so sick and tired of it and couldn’t sell anything at the price they insisted we sell at so I decided to just sell for a small profit, sold every last item and took my daughter on a month long trip to Italy lol I feel incredibly lucky to have gotten out the way I did. I didn’t recruit anyone, I just sold all my goods for a profit and bailed 👍🏼

That, in essence, is the scam. They know that 95% of distributors won’t see any profit but hey also know that if their distributors sell ANY of the product the owner is still making money. The telltale sign that a product isn’t worth the investment required to sell it is if the company strategy is to get YOU to sell it. Think about it: if you stumbled upon a great product that people wanted to buy and you were easily making money off of it, you wouldn’t want everyone else trying to sell it also, you’d try your hardest to make sure you were the only one selling it.

My first job out of college a co-worker invited all the recent graduates to a housewarming party. There was a table full of products and a man about 10 years older than the rest of us. My co-worker started giving his pitch with help from that guy. None of us had any idea what was going on. Expect for one person. And he started grilling them. What are you doing? Is this Amway? How much commission are you getting? It was really uncomfortable. We left and in the parking lot he explained that it was a pyramid scheme. Years later I realized what he had saved us from. That's what they do, take advantage of people's ignorance, so spreading the word about MLMs is so important.

The company also randomly decided to change their return policy, which royally screwed over all their loyal sellers. Plus quality issues got rediculous. Many leggings were old, ripped, and smelled like mildew. Many designs were stolen too. This is what introduced me to the world of MLMs. It's absolutely disgusting and predatory.

It's not a job though. It's a business. All businesses have to purchase their inventory and supplies. So that is how they are justifying it. You sell clothes, you purchase your inventory wholesale and you're selling it retail. It's like being a franchise owner. Where LuLaRoe is a scam is that they require people to buy $5K in inventory, and any retail revenue you make only goes into buying more inventory, you pocket almost nothing. So the only way to make money is to get other people to spend $5K on their inventory. Upline's weren't encouraging their downlines to sell. They were encouraging them to buy more inventory. And they got so saturated they had to lower their prices and take a loss... but then were still pressured to either buy more inventory, or find other people to buy inventory.

Most of the sales are online or “parties” which are private, not like the public is coming or going all day. You don’t need a permit to sell things either. There are SO many shady things that go on - male bishops interviewing young children and teenagers alone, asking inappropriate questions; indoctrination of children, teens and adults; the extreme pressure for all young men to go on missions, even if they are not emotionally, financially, or physically prepared; the love-bombing when you leave. I would be so grateful for your take on it!

I'm fine with Dr. Grande going deeper into Mormonism/LDS, but he actually has covered them, a few times. He did a video on their founder/conman Joseph Smith, as well as a video on notorious Mormon killer/conman Mark Hoffmann (which talked about LDS chrurch). I'd like to see a video on Brigham Young - a conman who often gets overshadowed by Joseph Smith, but was probably even worse. He took over the LDS church in what amounted to a coup, had *55* wives, took the United States to war (albeit short lived), and was almost certainly responsible for the Mountain Meadows Massacre, which amounted to the murder of 120+ men, women, and children settlers by LDS members/Brigham Young's militia.

This isn’t that uncommon throughout the world. Policeman interview kids without adults there, principals and vice principals do the same if there has been an incident. Some Other religions do the same. Compared to some other religions, this honestly is not that bad. Jehovahs witnesses, Amish, Scientology all shun and destroy families and have some scarier things than LDS. The sexual abuse within the Catholic Church and FLDS another example of churches much worse.

Well, I have to admit I did sell LuLaRoe. I didn’t understand MLMs at the time. I got in in 2016. In my area it was just becoming known. My first year I did $55,000 ! But…at that time we were encouraged to reinvest most of that back into the inventory. Also, the prints were good, the quality was decent. The work was hard and the hours were ridiculously long, however! I worked part time running a pulmonary rehab unit in a small rural hospital . I thought it was a perfect side job! Slowly, it became harder and harder to sell ugly prints, we did go thru the paper thin leggings, Mark telling us it’s our fault we aren’t selling. It was obvious they were reselling us old clothes they bought back from retailers that went out of business! Of course they denied everything! I have had to deprogrammed myself and prove to my brain what I knew in my heart. Mark and Deanne didn’t care about the retailers. They lied, cheated, stole from us. It’s sad what they have done to so many and with no remorse!

I foolishly and embarrassingly got caught up with “The Team” or “Team of Destiny” back in the early 2000’s. The meetings were supposed to be fun and loud and full of energy. They always had these charismatic speakers who of course talked about stuff like positive thinking. They would also encourage you to read books that pretty much said the same thing. I distinctly remember one of their sayings was “Keep coming back, it works”. But it didn’t, because the products that we were supposed to be selling to support our business were basically crap. The people who were making the money were those at the top who had others under them. And I’m sure you know how this story ends.

However, they might as well be considered mandatory. If you don't go to them, the big wigs (and the distributors above you/your line managers) will guilt you into spending the money for the meeting itself, you pay your own travel and lodging, and you end up spending so much money that the poor distributors end up in an even worse financial situation.

Giggle. Your analysis is way more interesting than MLM. But let’s back up. Leggings?! I guess this can happen with any product. I feel they preyed on women who feel vulnerable to the position of staying home with the children. I stayed home for 6 years with my daughter. At times I felt I wasn’t contributing towards the household or even towards society. I was assured by my husband being a SAHM is a hard job and the insecurities were my own. I turned it around. I remember back in the 80's there were "staffing" companies that would charge a fee to get you a "good" job. Companies were hiring them to weed through applications and they in turn were charging applicants to submit an application for these positions. That's just wrong. In retail however, stores have to buy product to put on their shelves, the manufacturer doesn't just send them a truckload of goods to sell at their leisure. LuLaRoe isn't a brick and mortar store but it's still the same business. Tupperware and Avon did the same thing, I believe they still do require you purchase a sales kit. Niche type businesses are much more risky with not much recourse for the franchisees. Sounds like many tales I've heard about Scientology pushing their members to take out loans and credit cards to buy books and other literature produced by the organization. If you have to pay your way in to something you must consider the why and what you expect to gain. Like the saying goes, "Don't risk more than you can afford to lose."

Not sure why Dr. Grande left out Amway - the most obvious and notorious pyramid scheme in America. Bonkers that a member of the family was Trumps's Secretary of Education. Yep my ex and I had a brief run-in with Amway in Australia many years ago. A family of them got their hooks into us and would not let up. They were utterly merciless. We finally relented and joined, telling them that we would just buy a few products for ourselves and had no intention of ever approaching any of our friends. They nodded along to this with complete and friendly understanding right up until 20 seconds after we'd signed, then started hinting about "when are we going to have an evening at our home?" We just kept saying no. Then they immediately switched to pressuring us to join them at events, where we would be "taught everything about running a business". I was self-employed, so thought that a few extra skills wouldn't hurt. Those meetings taught not one single business skill that could be used anywhere. It was all happy-clapping and cheering Amway "celebs" onto stage who had not one sensible thing to say. The "celebs'" job was to flaunt their apparent wealth and careless consumerism to the audience, not actually give any help. (Also, if the "celebs" were indeed interested in helping everyone to become financially independent as they claimed, surely telling them that buying a flashy car to show off in as soon as possible is the WORST financial advice to give, especially to hundreds of working class couples paying off first homes.) So anyway, Amway was selling these people the idea that they were attending a business convention, to give them skills, but really they were making them pay to have the lure of Amway wealth sold to them through "motivation". So scummy. I suspect those events cost quite a bit to attend. I also suspect all the tapes and books and boxes of "business" shite filling this family's home all cost a heap as well. I quickly realised that Amway's actual business is selling motivational products to it's marks. Had a great laugh and got out fast, no harm done.

@@sonyafox3271 It's not just pyramid schemes. Some of those guys like Warren Jeffs or Chad Daybell want a bunch of "wives", and also money.

Thank you for the video, I almost got roped into a mlm selling phone plan. It was too high pressure so I didn’t do it.

MLMs target mostly women. Usually, we are approached by a friend to join. Great video!

My Sister-in-law used to sell LuLaRoe but my wife ended up with a ton of the clothes for free. It was really sweet of her to give them to my wife though.

I only began watching you a couple weeks back but thus far I’m really enjoying your videos. Your calm demeanor and unbiased approach is appreciated. Also, your monotone speech makes your one line observations/jabs, such as the Lopez one in this clip, especially funny. Thank you.
