No, I think her reaction afterwards is irrelevant, that is what people do not see. Imagine you get your wallet stolen, does it make any difference your reaction afterwards? An apology that is accompanied by an insistence that the kiss was consensual despite Hermoso's claims to the contrary and followed by threats of legal action against Hermoso would have never been accepted at any point in time. You cannot give someone an unsolicited kiss and threaten them with legal action for calling it non-consensual. Only in "1984" would a powerful person do that and get away with it.

The video of the team on the coach afterwards is very telling, they're all laughing about it, not one of them is upset, when Rubiales gets on the coach they even tease him about it, so for them all to suddenly sign a petition refusing to play unless he's gone is very strange. They definitely got told what to do, I'd put money on it that the first statement Jenni released was the real one, she would have been forced to condemn him and come out and say it was written by someone else, because anything else doesn't fit the narrative. The second statement was actually the one she was told to write. The way the team reacted and the way they claimed to feel about it afterwards don't add up. I won't believe anything else. I think it has more to do with powerplay and belittling professionals, rather than the sexy side of it. Breaking boundaries and using a body language that implies female players to be dolls or cute little pets, it's clearly inappropriate to the context. They train very hard and not for being handled like that. I think its about women's historical struggle to be seen as people doing things rather than cute pets. Just a personal opinion.

This kiss happened in a moment of euphoria, not deliberately. The female player was taped laughing about this incidente in the bus. She didn't seem upset and disgusted at all. Woke culture (or stupid culture, if you prefer) at his best.

Honestly they were pushing him to terminate the contract of the coach before the start of the world cup and many boycotted the national team before the start. And when he decided to go with the coach and they won it. He gave hermosa a kiss, which i feel looking at the four pictures she had her strength on him. Yes, the kiss is blown out of proportion, that's for sure. And she manipulated the situation as well when she had the chance and they won the cup and like it or not he was behind the success. Yes, he did not play, but he sticked with the coach, and it paid off. As if all those who are against him are Mr. Clean themselves. There has been a very different reaction against this guy Vs. Katy Perry when she assaulted a male contestant on TV. Rubiales did a lot of bad things from what I understand but he would likely be able to sue the Spanish federation. There should have been a punishment and course correction. For those who know about women’s Spanish football, the issues raised by a group of players pre-world cup about the coach is that they did not like being dropped or his style. However, he did his job and won the World Cup. Then got sacked. That’s politically motivated as the federation succumb to media and public pressure. They were not brave enough to sack him prior to the tournament.

I think in future the winners will go onto the podium, and just collect their medals from a table. That way there will never be any chance of contact happening. Better to avoid any controversy, just make it even more of a no contact sport than it already is.

The intention of who gives the kiss is irrelevant. You're not allowed to kiss anybody without consent in any situation, and that's it. If the person you kiss (and let's remember he grabbed the player on both sides of the head) feels you've assaulted them, you have. If the player had consented to the kiss she wouldn't have sued him like she has. If he had apologised in the moment like he should have done, he wouldn't have been pressured to resign. Most of the country wanted him out so he needs to go, and now he'll need to answer in court for what happened

I feel that the apology would've been accepted. But he didn't. He acted with entitlement and he acted aggressively. Ultimately, he got what he deserved.

If the player had been a man, would he have kissed him on the lips? 🤣a kiss on the forehead would have been miles more appropriate. Resembling a fatherly form of affection perhaps. He’s too grown for me to feel sorry for him tbh -he should learn how to take accountability for his actions. Simple. He made a mistake which the whole world had the misfortune to witness… own it and move on. Put the pride aside.

I feel sorry for him and his family! He made a mistake, ok but that he has to resign because of a kiss is insane to me. He was just happy that they won the world cup and out of excitment kissed one of the players. She could have said publicly that she didn't appreciate it and Luis shouldnt do that again to any woman. This man is the epitome of corruption. It’s insane that he gets sacked because of this, but at least he goes. Look up the number of things he has done with Piqué to take the Spanish Super Cup to Saudi Arabia while earning commissions and working with an active player among other things. Paid for hookers with the RFEF money, took his girlfriend to NY with RFEF money. And many more. I’m glad he’s gone.

Thanks Piers for giving him a voice. This is a good journalism. I watched that moment over and over even from different angles. The body language didn't show any resistant from her and any force from him. You can tell from how she positioned her hands etc. It appears that she reciprocated. All the sudden it became a rape allegation it's beyond my comprehension. I am a woman and was a sport person when I was younger. I did come cross some top creepy officials wanted to kiss me when I won. I just avoided them by using handshake or simply moved onto the next person. I wish to hear her story from her own mouth too.

Agreed..... kisses on lips take you by surprise, but life is (supposed) to be more liberal these days, and you get over the surprise. He did not rape her. It was just a joyful moment, and there was great elation all round. In such moments, you can 'love everybody'. I have been kissed on the lips, like this, by women who barely know me. It is a gesture of interest, at most, and can easily be laughed of. This young man, Mr.Rubiales seem clearly to be a nice and respectable family man... He was just excited and no more than a hot blooded spaniard. Ms.Hermosa could have equally laughed it off, and shared the great all round elation. I believe she has been pressured into making the wrong decision. It definitely spoiled Spain's day, and their World Cup victory will be forever tempered by this totally unnecessary fuss.... 100 years later, this is all their victory will be remembered for. Though England ladies played very disappointingly, the wrong team won here.....

This was not just 1 moment. On the day of the final there were at least 3 actions that showed the way Luis treats women. There have been many unacceptable instances in the past that were not seen. The women's football team took this opportunity to make that stop. It was the straw that broke the camels back if you like. The fact that the women's team would rather resolve this issue instead of focusing on the achievement shows how important it for them and their future.
