Just to point this out, Ronaldo overshadowed him playing 1 season vs 5 of Rivaldo. That is no diregard to Rivaldo, he played 5 seasons, won everything, score and assit like crazy. But that just shows how THAT Ronaldo season was. For those that witness, I don't remember ever seeing anything like that in top leagues. Dude didn't lift for a year. And I'm talking goal of the century after goal of the century in consecutive weeks. Btw, what seasons of Messi or Ronaldo do you think equals that Ronaldo 98 Barcelona season?

Yeah. Back then the best teams had top players on every position. Almost every year had a diferent Ballon D´Or winner. There were just so many superstar players. Sure, Messi and CR7 are the best strikers ever. But back then the amount of outstanding players was much higher than it is now.

One of my favourite players ♥️

As a lifelong Barcelona fan, he deserved all the hate, but to be honest, he was so calm and mature to withstand everything and stay by his decision to join Madrid and play the game. Truly, massive respect for that. Any modern superstar would cry and leave the field, yet Figo played and was the best Real player at that match (in my opinion), despite being welcomed with messages "Traitor, welcome to hell", jersey burnings, and even pig heads. Truly an impressive game, and time in football history.

The pigs head was a different game. In this game he didn't take any corners or throw ins because he didn't want to be too close to the fans because he knew they would throw stuff at him. The next year in his second game at camp nou, he decided to take corners and he got absolutely pelted by bottles, lighters, cans etc. Everytime he moved to take the corner, multiple items would fall around him and prevent him from kicking. Eventually the ref had to suspend play for 30 mins and as the cameras filmed the staff cleaning up the waste they saw the infamous pigs head.

For me i think figo didn't leave just for money , ofc he was appreciated and loved by the fans but he wanted to be appreciated and wanted by the president and the club members as well , to show him how much barca wanted him to stay. In one side , the upcoming president of madrid was calling him personally to convince him to come on the other hand the upcoming barca president was accusing him of bluffing and rejecting his request to raise him salary. Lost us the best player of that time and retired a couple years ago after a drought of 5 years.
