"The titles for pieces of music, since they again have come into favor in our day, have been censured here and there, and it has been said that 'good music needs no sign-post.' Certainly not, but neither does a title rob it of its value; and the composer, by adding one, at least prevents a complete misunderstanding of the character of his music. What is important is that such a verbal heading should be significant and apt. It may be considered the test of the general level of the composer's education."
- Schumann, on “titled music”, after having resolved his opposing feelings on this topic, c.1848

A jewel, with or without titles... Warning : spoilers ! (Some translations of the titles follow...) 1. New lands and people. Des pays nouveaux et des personnes nouvelles. 2. A funny story. Une drôle d'histoire. 3. Playing cat and mouse. Jouer au chat et à la souris. (German word "haschen" doesn't imply you are blind...) 4.Pleading child. Enfant suppliant. 5. Cloudless happiness. Bonheur sans nuage. 6. An important event. Un événement important. 7. Dreaming. Rêverie. 8. At the fireside. Au coin du feu. 9. Knight of the hobbyhorse. Chevalier chevauchant son cheval de bois. 10. Almost too serious. Presque trop sérieux. 11. Playing at frightening. Jouer à se faire peur. 12. The child falls asleep. L'enfant s'endort. 13. The poet speaks. Le poète parle.

How does "Glückes Genug" translate to "Cloudless happiness"? From my understanding, as someone who has studied German for about 5 years, it translates to "Enough Joy", something like "Endless joy" probably being a more sensible translation. I can see where joy/happiness has a similar meaning, but where does "cloudless" come from?

Es ist lächerlich, dies zu übersetzen. Sie können Gedichte nur entstellen, wenn Sie sie übersetzen. Übersetzen Sie keinen Dichter: Sein Klang geht verloren! It's ridiculous to translate this. You can only distort poetry if you translate it. Don't translate a poet: his sound is lost!
Wow~ It's amazing that Lugansky plays Schumann's piece that I love the most. I really like his various performance. Perfect~~
Fascinating. Lugansky makes great play with the middle and lower ranges..and brings a much more interesting depth of sound than most players. Thankyou to Enchanted Wanderer.

Je dédie cette très belle interprétation des "Scènes d'enfants" à Clarisse, née le 14 août 2020. Qu'elle puisse grandir heureuse !

OUI gioacchino. Qu'elle puisse Etre HEUREUSE, comme tous les enfant su monde (mais il y a des adultes....)
I had never hear Mr. Lugansky past these before. Maybe Argerich is more energised but I think this performance has a cohesion that I love. This can readily be my favourite interpretation. I played some of these as a baby pianist.

I too played a few of these and struggled with the rest. I never progressed from being a baby pianist but it is a wonderful experience to be able to relax and enjoy my favorite pianist play it like it should be played.
8:42 the best moment gets killed by a phone notification. If that happened to me while playing I would rage on stage.

I’m happy that you love all those performances from our pianist as I do! For your question - the only Schumann I have and not yet posted is Humoresque.
Большое спасибо за видео! Подскажите пожалуйста, кто является владельцем данного канала?
First time he is playing sth easy :))
👍👍
The quote on Schumann in your description is really interesting. Do you have the full text on the subject or know where can I find it?

It is presumably translated from what Schumann wrote in the introduction of Waldszenen but I could not succeed in locating the source. Here is an article from LA Phil referencing it - www.laphil.com/musicdb/pieces/4626/waldszenen-op-82
