    I loved this game for what it was, an action-RPG with puzzle elements. Sometimes I don't want to play a 60 hour console RPG, but still want those elements in my game. This was a perfect "commuter game" for me when it came out. I'd hop on the train, play for 45 minutes, go to work, and do the same on the return. Beat the game in a week doing that, no regrets, and it inspired me to seek out the original games later on. :) It was a great advertisement for me.

    Elf goes from Bow to gun. That's funny. Maxim: So what, you the typical Bow and Arrow using- 'Gunshot' Artea: That Monster got dangerously close. Maxim: Holy shit, is that a gun!? Lexis: For Science of Course! 'Dr. Insano Laugh' The Difference between this and Dragon Quarter, is that this is a remake and Dragon Quarter isn't.

    I would have preferred calling it a reboot than a remake for what is according to Lufia's timeline the first game. Proceed to throw nearly everything that resembeled the game it's supposed to be a remake of out the window, and let's write the story and characters from scratch and make them more bland than usual. Call me a lunatic but that's what it looks like to me. This could have been any other game and it would have been an alright streamlined ARPG, but it just had to have Lufia in the title. So it shouldn't be surprising a huge chunk of fans of the original would be dissapointed. So much for a reboot that is most likely never going to be followed up unless Marvelous brings the series back from the dead for arbitrary reasons.

    I loved this game. I actually liked the condensed plot. In Lufia 2, there were a LOT of side stories that were simply an excuse to go to the next dungeon. I love how Dekar and Tia stay the whole game and get developed more. Each Sinistral's appearance had a MUCH HIGHER IMPACT in the story. Like it felt like Amon and Gades could have destroyed the world themselves. I actually liked the story and characters in Curse of the Sinistrals better. Now the actual game? I'd say it wasn't as good of an action RPG as the original was an turn based RPG. But it's still good; it seems to use a modified version of the Rune Factory engine; which is a solid engine. I remember it being fun to play and not running into much in the way of frustration. Was it perfect? No. Was the original perfect? Hardly. The pacing of the original Lufia 2 was this: For every important town/dungeon combo that introduces development of the characters, it seemed like there were like 5 town/dungeon combos that were pointless to the story. When I think back on an RPG like Final Fantasy VI... I can think of every plot point and dungeon in order. I can't say the same for Lufia 2, and I've played through Lufia 2 several times. I remember every time when I go back to find the Dragon Eggs, the early game just blends together in my head so much, I forget what exactly happened in each dungeon. Am I saying Lufia 2 is a bad game? No; Lufia 2 is an AMAZING game. It's a great game. A+. Is Curse of the Sinistrals an A+? No. But it's still an A, maybe an A-. Not as good as the original, but very much worth playing.

    Oh boy, the DS Lufia. I didn't hate it the way a lot of people did, but it was a disappointment in many ways as well. The way the story was handled at the beginning of the game nearly made me turn the thing off right then and there. Just having the game start with Gades shouting threats without the hours of exploration, character development, or any plot development for that matter, was awful. Like you mentioned, many of the characters were also downgraded and the unique dialogue/relationship between the characters was one of the best parts of the original game. On the plus side, I liked the combat, minus the slowdowns, once I got used to it. The graphics were nice for a DS game and the updated soundtrack was the best part of the game for me. Also, TiaxDekar happened, which I was rooting for in the original game and I'm glad it made it into this game. My overall opinion of it is that it would have been better if they have just made a new JRPG with this engine and not tried to stick the Lufia label on it. If they wanted to remake Lufia II, they should have done what the the FF4 DS remake did and it would have turned out fine.

    Oh yeah, you forgot to mention that you can't grind at will, enemies eventually don't respawn. How did the developpers get by this? They make you gain 5 levels when you die. Yes people, die and you can freely level up 5 levels!!! Just stupid. I wish they had just ported the real Lufia 2 instead. Fix a couple of the bugs and it would have been perfect!

  • @Canaris4

    @Canaris4

    5 жыл бұрын

    Of course you can grind at will. You do so by entering and exiting the area. If you kill all the enemies in a spot fast enough you get a treasure chest. Heck there is a bunch of dungeons that if you re-enter after completing them you can fight a dragon that drops a tetris piece where you'd expect to fight the dead bosses (the bottom of Soma Temple where you got the Legendary Sword for example). It only seems that monsters don't respawn because you've killed them all in a room. You can leave and re-enter the room to find them there again (the easiest examples of being able to do this I can think of are the Entrance to Tanbel Mine, and the section of Logos.Temple with the small puzzle-rooms next to the small fighting rooms, on the way to Amon.)

    As someone whose first rpg was Lufia2 on the snes, I had great hopes on the game and ultimately, while didn't dislike it, felt really dissappointed with this. Though the "happy ending" had something going for it just to close Iris character arc, which I liked for Iris to have instead of just ocassionally appearing in the game, as a martyr I can't blame anyone for disliking it and won't deny it spitted in the face of the original ending and foundation of the whole franchise.

    I get most of criticism this game has against. Since I didn't play the original title, my view point was different then most. Honestly, I enjoyed the game. The combat reminded me more of modern Ys games than Zelda, with a tinge of FF:Crystal Chronicles DS games. Story was the weakest aspect but mainly because it felted rushed.

    One piece of gameplay/story integration that I absolutely love about Tia in Curse of the Sinistrals, is how in the Tanbel Mines (her tutorial dungeon), at no point are you required to use her. This goes well for establishing that she's dead weight to the party. To put this in perspective imagine an item you get in a Zelda dungeon and then have it that you don't need to use said item in said dungeon. The first dungeon you get an item in is generally where you get the most use out of an item.

    This is a good example of something I decided to approve of (click Like on), despite disagreeing with the majority of what was said. regardless of what I disagree with the creator about, the material is still reasonable and well thought out. I felt Curse of the Sinistrals was a decent game and changing the ending in the second play through doesn't bother me as much, since it gives the character of Iris more weight. Rise of the Sinistrals is still a better game by far, and does the story in a vastly superior way, but this game didn't bother me in that respect. It is what it is, and it has enough fun elements to maintain my support.

    I can easily see just in the way this game looks why Lufia fans would have been distraught. It doesn't look like Lufia, it doesn't smell like Lufia...so that means it shouldn't have been Lufia haha! I thought you might get a kick out of this excerpt from Wikipedia about this game (I assume this is accurate, but, you know...Wikipedia): " IGN gave the game a score 8.5 out of 10, praising its action-focused experience, character-swapping dynamic, well-written dialogue scenes, and puzzles which it compares favourably to The Legend of Zelda, concluding that Lufia is "a great DS adventure"." Visually this is not what I would have wanted. I would hope that all Lufia titles were 2D since many 3D games at this point just didn't look as good as you would want them to. I hope Lufia returns someday, but when that is I haven't the faintest of ideas.

A Masterpiece, one of the best Ds titles, a bit short, many Ds games were short, because of nature of portable gaming I believe. Get to Gadans in just about ten minutes felt like getting to bowser in the first castle, or Dracula. Bit odd but not a true fight. Fast text options a godsend.

    Not only does this game make me sad. It pisses me off. It's like they went out of their way to make the biggest insult they could think of. I didn't even know about this game until years later and I got so hyped learning there was a remake of One of my favorite RPGs. Then I saw it and after a long moment of genuine, stunned confusion, I felt scared and sick. Then I started reading about the game, and went from sick and scared, to angry. I couldn't believe it. Why had they done this? No one wanted it. All this did was ensure that we'll never see another good title in the series. Seeing a series be purposely killed like this because the company just wants to try and wring a few extra sense out of it before they abandon it infuriate me. Fuck this game.

    And in Square's never ending quest to destroy I.P.'s from companies they absorb, we have Taito's Lufia 2. When you make the decision to remake one of the four Lufia games in an EXTREME manner, common sense says to target one of the three bad Lufia games. So of course, Square remakes the one GOOD Lufia game instead. Logic 101! Enix is lucky that Square hasn't ruined Dragon Warrior yet...then again, we have the stupidity of making episode 10 an online game rather than a spin-off...then again, Dragon Warrior did rebound after that one.

Take an assassin's creed odyssey, breath of the wild, red dead redemption 2, and make a huge open world, all of the locations, characters and story of the original, a few side stuff from the remake like tia x dekar, and either an action approach where you parkour and combat with your party in tow, or rpg it old school. Whatever they do, its be great if it included the original alongside it.

The combat seemed exceedingly bland, and seeing all the end game spells and abilities stripped away any sense of excitement in seeing my characters grow. It was also really slow and klunky, and way too slow-paced. This seems refreshing and fun? I do miss old JRPG gameplay, but most of your criticism seems to be that it's not just more Lufia.
