I think it really speaks to Lucy's skill, she was so convincing as a talentless, clumsy ditz when in real life she was emphatically none of those things!

My brother and I used to run home from visiting my Granny's house to watch 'The Lucy Show.' We used to have to switch on the old-fashioned TV set five or ten minutes before the show started so that the valves could warm up! It was our favourite time of the week and we loved it.

Growing up in the 60s and 70s, you can't understate how much of a sustained cultural icon Lucille Ball was. Just mentioning the name Lucy to someone my age brings a smile. Oh and ... Vitameatavegamin

I grew up watching reruns of "I Love Lucy" and her other sitcoms. My parents loved her to the point where my mother tried to match her hair color. My greatest memory of "I Love Lucy" occurred when Lucy put on an unnaturally long rubber nose for a meeting at the couple's apartment. In short, the nose caught fire which, was not in the script. Being a natural comedienne, Lucy ran with it, ad libbing until the fire was put out and the scene stayed in the episode. In my mind, this was one of the most hilarious moments in "I Love Lucy" history.

Lucille was badass. In an industry that wasn't really women friendly especially back then, she took charge of that destiny. Had her own production studio, took an active role in her show, when they didn't want to use desi for the show, she didn't take no for an answer. She found a way to get the “ yes”

Nobody like her since. She was a stone cold fox with the brains of a mathematician and the comedy sense of Mark Twain. I have to be grateful for living in a universe where someone like Lucille Ball existed. She's in the great nightclub in the sky hanging out with Betty White and listening to Frank Sinatra singing his best stuff now.

The years her show came out 1951-57 smoking was aok - it wasn't till the 1960's the pronouncements came out about smoking. Unfortunately for the US, the tobacco industry hid the fact that nicotine was addictive as well as the connection of cigarettes to ill health. Both Desi and Lucy succumbed to health issues related to smoking - Desi died of lung cancer (smoked cigarettes and cigars and Lucy died of heart issues also connected with smoking) my own father smoked 4 packs a day - began smoking at age 12. (He was born in 1919)
