LUCIDS: PART FOUR

Фильм және анимация

Previously, Mrs. Hills tasked our heroes with retrieving Quinn, the lost memory of her son, from Benjamin's dreamscape. Meanwhile, we've discovered that Benjamin's second grade reality is, in fact, somehow, Oliver's dreamscape, and that Oliver effectively woke up Benjamin in order to escape his traumatic reality.
Now, Benjamin and Oliver finally meet face to face with Jasper and Quinn. The only question is... will Quinn bite into the Apple, returning him to Benjamin's reality, and reuniting him with Mrs. Hills...?
Created, written, filmed, acted, edited, scored, and produced by me
Voice of Mrs. Hills by my mom
Voice of Isabelle by Mary Townsend

Ending song: "Backseat" by me, which isn't done yet.

"There's a metaphor in there somewhere." We're getting pretty constant reveals for different layers to the dreamscape but that "allegory" sort of nailed it so well for me. We are constantly surprised by different perceptions of the things around and within us. I think denial, something scrutinized and analyzed a lot in this series, has so many distinct protective layers that when one is uncovered another one pops up. For Oliver it's the denial of the power he holds, the accident he was part of, for Benjamin it's the what he remembers his life to be is actually different because of what he chooses to think about. Dreams are our unconscious making us process the things we don't want to think about. They're manifestations of guilt, fear, love, denial, anger, identity - and I think the fact that every character is played by Nicolas is a part of that. Our dreams are just... Us. And they can be beautiful or horrifying, because our *minds* can be those things. Now, I'm gonna rewatch this episode three more times and try to piece more together because I am OBSESSED.

If Oliver is holding Benjamin inside his own dream (without his knowledge), and Quinn is right about what he saw in Benjamin’s dreams/memory, is this Benjamin using lucid dreaming to find a version of Isabelle he didn’t lose?? Did they have a baby before getting married?? Is the proposal where it all fell apart?? And 7 year old (dream?) Benjamin is just trying to do it all over better because older dream him messed up so badly?

No, the Jasper Dreamscape is not Benjamin's original dreamscape. In the original dream at Whole Foods, he was merely engaged to Isabel. The Jasper dreamscape appears to be "later" than that. The Benjamin in the cult joined because his wife left him. But Oliver's Benjamin had no idea that would/could happen.

Jasper tells the cult to protect Quinn even after his plan was revealed, Quinn runs from Benjamin and tells him he’s never going to go back because he’s found family in jasper. Their relationship crazy and wonderful and it’s one of my favorite parts of this series

That my trauma; and its consequences; are common. I'm not alone. Though I may be reaching for something to connect with in a time where that's what I need. Its comforting, to say the least. As I go through these type of thoughts daily, nightly. So thank you. REALLY Thank you.

0:56 “Life is like a film. It’s all set, beginning, middle and end and all of the characters have no choice but to go through it fame by frame” ngl this line unnerved me the most because of the strong sense of deja vu it had. Last night I had a dream where one of the ‘characters’ said, “Everything in this place is all set for us. There’s the beginning, the middle, and the end. We have no choice but to go along with it and follow the script as is. But, _you_ don’t have to. The rules don’t apply to you here. So, what will you do? Will you change your fate?” and I woke up feeling oddly alarmed. Then I found this series and it confused me even more lmao. Great job by the way!! Good luck on your future projects!!

I love this series so much. I originally came here looking for that one audio, but now I’m invested. I love psychological horrors, especially when you can’t tell what’s real. All the characters are played by the same person, and there’s little to no change in lighting or camera angles from cut to cut, and we can’t tell what is reality and what is a dream, an I have very little idea of what is going on, and I love it

So, Oliver was in Benjamin's dreamscape in the very first scene... that means when they both "woke up," what really happened was Benjamin jumped into Oliver's dreamscape, and Oliver woke up from Benjamin's dreamscape into his own dreamscape? And there is no actual reality because every reality is just someone else's dreamscape? I am so interested in this story, this is wild. Can't wait for the next one.

This is like my fifth time rewatching this tonight, and I cannot get over the quality. My first time through, I didn’t even know that there were backstory episodes so I was just really confused but in absolute awe of the quality of *everything* that I stuck around. I also don’t fully understand it yet, so I’ll probably have to rewatch five more times to get the full story, but I’m not tired of it yet. Amazing job!!!!!

This is some of the best filmmaking/acting/scoring I’ve seen from a small creator in a long time. This series is creative and compelling so on many levels Im excited to see more. It doesn’t make sense but also feels so homey at the same time. Seriously a great job thank you

I honestly cannot fully express how happy this series makes me. This is the kind of stuff that I crave deeply, the kind of content that just makes every painful moment in my life worth it, and I might not even be sure why. But the way this is shot, the music, the acting and the writing are all so beautiful, and fill me with the greatest sense of joy that I cannot even describe. This kind of thing is something that I would keep to myself, my little place to escape from the world and to see something fantastic, but at the same time, I really hope more people can find and appreciate this work ^^ So… if you’ll ever see this comment, thank you for this, it’s an amazing series and I can’t wait to see more ^^

The metaphor for the "ah, a tree": In my language, we have a saying that basically translates to "Being unable to see the forest through the trees." It means you focus so much on smaller details, you can't see the bigger picture anymore. It's not about why we do things, but instead, we just focus on doing it. _"You don't know why you were so desperate to join the cult in the first place."_

I love how the more questions are answered, the more questions I have. Like if Oliver is the owner of the dreamscape then why did it seem he was convinced at the beginning of The Adventures of Benjamin and Oliver that he genuinely "woke up" and was actually a second grader? Also, he clearly he knew something about dreamscapes and lucids before he even met Mrs. Hill because somehow, someway, he managed to pull Benjamin into HIS dreamscape (btw I'm not sure about all of the logistics, but I'm CONVINCED Benjamin is Oliver's possibly comatose little brother) FURTHERMORE, why do the Jaspers (especially Jasper Prime/Quinn) know so much about Isabelle?
