As long as Saudi Arabia keeps pouring money into Lucid, they will be around. Saudi Arabia seems intent on keeping the money flowing since they still plan on building a Lucid factory in Saudi Arabia. Lucid makes a beautiful car and at these prices is looking pretty solid. Risky, yes. But starting to get really attractive at these prices.

I love my lucid sedan. Unbelievable range, comfort, handling, stereo, acceleration and charging speed. Since they do Formula E I feel good about reliability. If I wanted to "chuck in a bike" I'd certainly not do it in a luxury car/suv. Respectfully, sounds like you, the bike and the young kids probably could use a minivan so they can also toss cheerios around in it.

Be careful about spending money on cars to save the planet or to save fuel costs. In 1990 Charlie Munger said to do whatever you must to save your first $100,000 (now $200k). The money will grow and you can later buy nice stuff. Drive a 2007 Yaris if you must. “I don’t care what you have to do. The Lucid Air is a great EV, now at a great price, that is being made by a company with very deep pockets that is continuing to invest in its future. Lucid isn't going away and its cars aren't in any immediate danger of undergoing a rapid depreciation so why the reticence to buy Lucid cars? Only naive people will be influenced by all the FUD being churned out about Lucid.

If I buy one, who will work on it, and where can I get parts when Lucid dries up and blows away?

Lucid is an amazing car. Miles ahead of Tesla model S. All the cars with those high discounts are already sold out. This was a small amount of inventory from last year. Not it’s more like $5k discount.

I like the Lucid but it was too expensive and now that they are in trouble financilly will they be around until they get solid footing and if Saudi Arabia keeps them in production.

If that discount carries over to a 2-year lease, that might be worth doing. Other than that, I would be terrified of a BK.

Lucid actually runs a traditional automotive software stack. Much more hackable and maintainable than Tesla or Rivians custom hacked up garbage

It’s probably not a 2024 model with that steep discount.

Discounts have been going on for months. The 2024 model prices are reduced from prior years. Inventory is not growing, Lucid factory output has been very low.

They can't give EV's away quick enough.

Surely spare parts aren't as much of a deal with EVs as they have less moving parts - though I guess if only a few thousand are made of a model you might not be able to get spare parts anyway. But mostly it's an issue if you're in an accident, and repair bills for modern cars are high anyway, so would you actually ever lose that much if you bought a bargain EV from a dead company?

It looks like a bargain.

The average price reduction for ICE and hybrids (PHEV and HEV) is around 3%...the BEV discounts are just crazy, including Tesla. OH, and lots of Toyota/Lexus are selling above MSRP or at MSRP.

That is just badly contorted math. Lucid increases its value, viz. its assets, with every dollar spent. That it hasn't become profitable yet is its misfortune but it isn't surprising. It took Tesla 17 years to become profitable (on an annual basis) and reaching profitability as an EV manufacturer now is harder than it used to be - there is Tesla to contend with. It is the Legacy Auto companies that are pursuing a certain death strategy in their slowly slowly approach to EVs. They simply won't be ready to compete in high volume shipments when EVs reach price parity with ICE vehicles and when car buyers can't see any reason to be EV hesitant any more. What you are counting as losses by Lucid are 'investments' and a) investments always come before profits (as Tesla's own history shows) and b) investments are always risky because they are made without the future being predetermined, viz. certain. However, what is certain is that the companies that take the right risks while withstanding unavoidable pain - growing pain, competition, establishing a solid reputation, building a brilliant team - will reap the big rewards. But, uncertainty lurks all around. Rather than fixating on Lucid the EV company to watch this year is Xiaomi. It has risked everything on rapid success in the EV market. The vehicle they are offering has undoubted attractions but having a snag free ramp to profitable volumes (which Xiaomi thinks it can manage before the end of the year) won't be easy. If Xiaomi is successful they will have shown that there are ways to successfully compete with Tesla. Whether Xiaomi is successful or not, though, I think 2024 will see the amount of risk capital on the table in the global EV industry rise rapidly. Fortunately for us, though, that is a development that is very much in keeping with Tesla's mission - to accelerate the advent of electric transportation - even if, naturally enough, Xiaomi EVs don't come with Tesla badges affixed.
