I found out about this device by watching A&E's Nightwatch. I didn't even know this machine existed, but it was amazing to see this thing in action on a real person as it kept pumping the chest no problem as they rolled this man out of his building and into the ambulance all the way to the hospital. It just kept going when an EMT would have had to stop and get someone else to take over out of sheer exhaustion. The definite benefit was all the EMT's involved were able to both monitor the machine and work on other areas of the man in distress to try and save his life.

Quality video. Thanks a lot for putting these out. I'd heard great things about the LUCAS device but never seen one in action. That's awesome that you are able to make these as well as work an ALS bus, be a reserve deputy, and SWAT medic. Strong work.

I was shown this in person today by our local abo drivers. What a great device! It's mind baffeling that it took so long for it to come out. This is only one of the models out there. But THIS is almost as revolutionary as a defib in my opinion...

Great vid! We were on a hot call one night using the LUCAS and during transport the neck strap buckle broke. Due to that, the LUCAS body shifted towards the feet and, without the neck strap, we saw the the arm and suction cup start riding up towards the neck! We stabilized the LUCAS body right quick, manually. Lol.

The device is most excellent and provides consistent compressions, like any medical device it has to have value and it does. Think about the olden days with poor CPR as the crews hold on to the top rail while transporting on the road or down stairs simply trying to do compressions. I am a Lucas fan !! Worth every penny.

You may already be aware if this, but with the LUCAS 3 you can request from the factory or rep through software that the device pause for a range of 3-5 seconds during the 30:2 compression mode to actually get 2 full breaths in. If you choose the 3 second mode, just know that you will be getting in Less than 6 breaths per minute in. The reason why this is significant for us, is that our ventilator does not allow us to ventilate during the continuous/asyncronous mode due to hitting our highest PIP alarm limits. So after we have intubated without stopping chest compressions, we choose to use the 30:2 mode with our vent to deliver two full manual breaths. The LUCAS 2 does not have this software change option.

I had the Lucas make an alarm because as we later brainstormed it sensed a delay/sensation that the recoil of the persons chest was not pliable enough to function correctly. Further assessment revealed the patient had been down for enough time that his chest was rigored just enough that the Lucas couldn’t work properly. Pretty smart machine.

Hello, excellent video. You may want to add some info about transporting the patient with the Lucas. I've found that a long backboard does not work as well as a scoop, as the Lucas' yellow backboard tends to slide around. The scoop stretcher curves and holds the Lucas board in place better.

This device is way easier to operate with one person than the competitor Auto Pulse. Both are great but for small volunteer departments with one person responses this is a better option.

I was told never use one. Reason...that's plastic on plastic contact. You cannot use the top backboard straps on while the lucas is on, meaning only hip and leg straps hold the patient on. A reeves should be used as often as possible unless the stretcher is so short a distance the pt can just be carried. The plastic on plastic allows slipping when you have an adult sized person on there. The upper body can slip and hang off the side if you're not careful. However, with a reeves, the rubber allows grip, preventing slipping and also if you're patient is small enough, the sides of the reeves kinda cradles the patient.

Can the Lucas be applied over a Zoll compression puck?

We just purchased 17 of these to go on our DCs and APP cars. They will be used for our ECMO program where a patient needs a heart cath as we do not do CPR in the back of our units while they are in motion.

What happens if the patient “wakes up” and start to breath etc.? Will Lucas hurt him ?

It is extremely rare for chest compressions alone to suffice in getting the heart to beat again. In most cases, they serve to buy time until defibrillation or medication can be administrated. However, even if the patient's heart should resume beating while the Lucas is active, the medics will be able to confirm that life functions have resumed and will turn off the device.

Judith Kuhl you can manually pause the compressions briefly to analyze and shock, then continue compressions.

This is some great information if the trained people somehow become incapacitated and there happens to be someone who hasn't been completely trained in the operation. There's at least that chance that someone can possibly help.

How's it different from LUCAS II? I can't believe they can charge that price for it and at the same time, refuse to tell how much they're charging for it. Ours costed $1million, if my memory is serving me correctly.

There are no real big changes from the 2 to the 3. Some software updates, you can now see the battery status without opening up the case and you can charge the device through the case. There are some aesthetic changes, IMHO the 3 looks better. The case has been updated and is more sturdy and easier to use and access, IMHO. But functionally they are the same and will get the same results. Your company must have bought a TON of Lucas devices! They are about $15-18,000 each. I am assuming your company bought more than just the Lucas?

We just upgraded ours and got 125 Lucas 3.1 for our entire fleet (NOEMS) and NOFD. The major differences are: 1) a single piece, flat back board for better stability and better clean up. 2) change the rate of compresión (ours default to 110 per minute vs the 102 on the Lucas 2. 3) the suction cup lowers automatically when pressing the on button 4) bluetooth/WiFi enable to transmit directly to Code Stats. facebook.com/508222909319468/posts/1390937097714707?sfns=mo

This would have been really useful before we had ready access to narcan and had to do chest compressions to keep overdosed patients alive.

Also you still need to do chest compressions on overdose victims if they are in cardiac arrest even before narcan if the over dose didn’t put them in cardiac arrest you would just need to breath for them and not do compressions.

@@PrepMedic Sorry. I didn't explain. Let's say you witness someone overdosing, usually you catch it right away because they're with people or they're alone and they die. Anyways in these instances where people are over dosing and there's no narcan close by, and they're going blue but still sort of breathing but getting weaker...well...you really want to put your mouth on them if you dont have to? No. (Assume you have no equipment). You just push on their chest to breathe for them. Their heart never stops the problem is a lack of oxygen. Now you're going to think this is really messed up but if you breathe fast for them by pushing on their chest really fast you can usually bring them back to conciousness....though if they've done too much they'll come back really messed up and confused. I assume it's because they have so much opiate in them. And because they're back you stop pushing on their chest and they go back to their inadequate breathing and you're forced to do it again. And again. Then you realize well I just wont breathe super fast just regular speed. Until either they come back because their liver processes enough of the drug or whatever or narcan/paramedics arrive. I've saved at least a half dozen people this way. And sometimes when they come back they don't believe you, so I used to film it to show them. So somewhere i even have a bunch of films of this. I'm surprised you never heard of this.

Hey Sam, I have heard this device is contraindicated for patients in a cold water rescue scenario. I believe that to be totally false, but was wondering if you had ever heard of anything along those lines. Thanks in advance!

Its good only to do CPR during transportation the patient. The Lucas smash the patients chest like steering wheel after car accident. We got Lucas 2 at work and its not recomended to use it routine.

Sorry fam but you’re wrong. Lucas devices are a key role in positive pt outcomes. They should be used whenever possible. People CANNOT provide adequate compressions for extended periods of time. You’re gonna get some snap-crackle-pop during CPR. You need to get that adequate depth. The Lucas can deliver adequate compressions for as long as the batteries will last. The service I work for can transport a one man code with our Lucas devices and care vents. We don’t make a habit of it but we have capacity to if no other resources are available.

I think the product that you’re showing are great but realistically nobody can afford him even in a business environment I definitely wouldn’t pay $11,000 for an item and some of the other stuff that you have shown it’s probably cheaper and safer to have a medical team on my business site then it is paying for these gadgets

Mick Soliz the Lucas is used by EMS services all over the world and 11,000 for a device like this is actually really cheap when you consider the cot system in our ambulances is over 50k with a total ambulance coming close to 300k. Not every video I do is for the average consumer, many are for services and agencies looking to increase their capabilities or train their staff.

Because i'm funny and my family has a history of cardiac problems and disease, And i've survived 2 cardiac arrests. One with manual, One with the funny LUCAS 3 Machine. I love wasting my money on funny things that push down. And kids dont use it the wrong way if you know what I mean🤨😏💀

How come Lucas is not designed for fat people whose chests can’t fit under its narrow legs?
