I can’t understand why these men think they lost their children but when they were home they never spend time with them and their almost always gone drinking gambling sexing driving and somehow they think they are good enough to take care of children. They never would take the kids or spend money on them in any way. Just like no milk for the kids. It still goes on.

Mr. Bob the Bird do you really believe your scenario after what his behavior is like. He gambles and can’t quit . He was mean to his wife before this he was never around the kids until he lost them he made her get another nanny cause the other knew too much about his behavior. He lost court cases and he just wanted the kids to win. He did it that is more in his behavior then what you think. Remember he had to borrow money and he needed more and wouldn’t quit maybe she just said what she could to get him to stop beating her.

It's because they're bastards . Being on the 'right shoot' far more important than the happiness and 'loving' welfare of Wives and children . I watched my father destroy my Mum's gentle beautiful persona before leaving her disabled to bring up two children under 9yrs old so he could start again with his secretary . As soon as I was old and big enough to confront him , he disowned me and has turned my only remaining family against me . It's why I can't be arsed to watch any more than half the first episode . Don't worry - it's not a cry for help ; I'm nearly 56 and he'll be dead soon .

This is based on her version of their story which has been proven suspect. Nobody disputes the marriage was dysfunctional with addictions, infidelities', physical, psychological and emotional abuses on BOTH SIDES. Several Nannies quit because she would do nothing with the children. They stated in later years that she slept all day went out all night and had short fuse with the children. They both spent astronomically and had violent tendencies towards one another. He was a murderer for that there is no doubt. He obviously wins the "Heinous" between this twosome, however, when telling a story keep the narrative honest. These two were not parents, partners, or descent people they had so much in common that it was not going to end well. Her oldest child gave one interview stating their childhood was horrible nobody really card for them and they wanted nothing to do with either of them. He mourned the nanny that lost her life and stayed in contact with family. He was clear the parents were violent towards each other money always an issue and they cheated on each other.

This story is truly one of the most fascinating cases of its kind. There is so much of interest to the whole drama and the ironies abound, especially the main one as relates to the crime: the one concession Lucan got in the courts, namely, forcing his estranged wife to have a nanny for the children, meant that his murder attempt of that same wife would go awry. Can't make that up. The great mystery writers could only at best come close, reality is so much more interesting than fiction.

The story behind Annabel’s, the private club in Aspinall’s casino is an even bigger story. Mark Birely opened the club named after his wife. She soon hooked up with Jimmy Goldsmith, another friend & had two children to go along with her 4 with Mark. One of the boys, Robin was horribly mauled by a tiger at Aspinall’s Zoo. Not being able to face him, he was sent to live with Camilla Shand’s family. Her mum was very good to him & he felt safe & loved. He grew up to marry Bryan Ferry’s ex until she shot herself at their home in Ireland.

I just cannot believe their kids believed their father was innocent after everything. Especially given someone lost her life and their mother was badly hurt. She might not have been easy & I know she had some drug issues with medication for a few years but look what she went through. Their son is literally on a documentary spouting off daddy’s everlasting innocence & bad mouthing their mother. All of the kids cut her out when they were teens. They were in so denial they would cut their mother off and place their murderous father on a pedestal. It’s like they completely forget someone died over this and he disappears. Father of the century.

I believe, more than the disease, she was distraught by the treatment she received from her kids. In her will, she donated all the inheritance to a shelter home (charity) citing irreverence meted out to her by her children. And I believe, due to the public scandal and media coverage, the children of Lord Lucan became over-protective of their father and disbelieved even the most obvious wrongdoings of Lord Lucan. Also, I've watched Lady Lucan's interview too. From it, I gathered that there was no love between the two. It was just a marriage of convenience. He wanted kids and she wanted financial security.

The leading man is badly miscast. His demeanour is more Basil Fawlty than Lucky Lucan. Lucan towered over people and carried an air of supreme self-confidence. His eyes were cold and ruthless: though one put that down to his pride of ancestry and his title, rather than any proclivity for aggression. He was always beautifully turned-out: slim, and in the smartest of suits, perfectly cut. Dapper to a 't'. He was also damn good at what he did, but, as we have since been informed, Aspinall had been forced by the London 'mafia' to fix his tables at the Clermont, thereby poviding the gangsters with a bigger cut of the family fortunes lost there. Lucky would probably not have known. So it wasn't surpising that Lucan ended up badly in the red - though Aspinall had him on a retainer just for remaining on site, thereby cutting a dash, as well as back-gammoning most other members into oblivion. This chosen actor has all the charisma of an overweight fish-and-chip salesman. That being said, the screenplay carries an integral authenticity - although the gambling apartments had lower ceilings, as they stood on an upper floor, rather than, as depicted, as if they were part of some rather grand Mediterranean Casino.

@@wendischofield352 No Wendi - sorry, you're wrong. I knew the guy (was even at school with him as an adolescent - four years younger than him, however), and Kinnear is a million miles away. Complete wimp.....by comparison. And would you still accept the visual differences if Kinnear was a pygmy with three arms? How far are you prepared to go to defend the indefensible? Not Kinnear's fault. Down to the Casting Director. But you can't offer a judgement if you never met Lucky. That's pretentious. I'm referring mainly to personality, not looks. Lucan obviously suffered from a deep psychosis and lived at a time when most upper-class Brit males were raving MCP's (me included, probably!) - and, as the dramatisation shows - he was encouraged (with tongue-in-cheek), by association - and due to the illusions of his standing in society - to believe it was morally justifiable to attack his Countess, after his enforced separation from his kids. Some Dads in that position stand with banners on the ledge at Buck House, some (hopefully, just this one!) try to murder their wives; some - like me - merely bite the bullet and have a fabulous relationship, when older, with their offspring - one that Mama (with her eventual drunken, sexual abuse of our daughter, aged 8 at the time) - can never hope to reach. But Lucan always came across as strong and impressive - which Kinnear certainly does NOT. Lucky just wasn't very bright - though bright enough to calculate the odds on a gaming table. Can't imagine how they accepted him at Eton, with his academic failings - though he shined there, socially and in sports. (Kinnear looks more intelligent, but weaker). Family karma for his ancestor having ordered the catastrophic Charge of the Light Brigade, perhaps? Or maybe he fell on his head as a toddler and something disconnected for life? I repeat - not Kinnear's fault. He couldn't possibly get a grip on the contemporary vibe. No actor could. What references could they use? It was a closed shop for egomaniacs. I know - I was one of them. Fortunately the younger ones, like me, turned into establishment hippies and chilled out. Lucky was a closet Hooray Henry. Kinnear portrays him like a closet Chartered Accountant.

This is based on her account of their life together. I watched an interview where the Journalist challenged much of her version and she could not answer the questions. Nobody disputes the marriage was highly dysfunctional filled with addictions, emotional, psychological and physical abuses, infidelities', and financial disaster on both sides. Neither cared for the children, however, they used them as the battle ground. Nobody disputes he was a murderer (intent to kill her) which obviously makes him the award winner of worst in the twosome. When a story is told it should be told objectively I mean the dude is a murderer nothing excuses that but keep the narrative honest she had several nannies quit because they said she would stay out all night, sleep all day, and very short fuse with the children. Been doing some research on Lucan since I’ve moved to Littlebourne, next door to Aspinalls wild animals park. This first episode is not good light for John. Must look up the Aspinalls law. After John Aspinalls death, his private secretary spoke on local evening news and stated that Lucan was in Africa and how she arranged Lucan kids to go out to Africa on holiday. This is where Lucan would watch them from a distance. It’s gripping stuff. Now to watch part two. R.I.P Sandra Rivett R.I.P Veronica Duncan

Lucan either drowned himself right after or shot himself and was secretly buried by his buddy in Uckfield. If he had gone to Africa evidence of his existence would have come to light after all these years. Poncey English Lords stand out, but notorious murderer English Lords especially so.

Nothing new in this series. It's just a story of what is known in the public domain. There is no interpretation of the characters Lord Lucan is presented as a flat cardboard character - the only character that has any personality is Aspinal. Your better of watching the documentary and interviews. What is forgotten here, is that the nanny was murdered.

Lord Lucan was confident that he could carry out the murder of his wife and shift the blame onto a non-existent intruder without arousing any suspicion or scrutiny, given his privileged status as a member of the aristocracy. He was confident that his own testimony would outweigh that of a working-class police officer. The Lucan family and their associates believe that the failure of John Lucan's plan was the true tragedy, rather than the murder of Sandra Rivett.

The point of Darwin's theory is that in biological systems, only the strong survive in order to preserve each species. This includes man in his earthly state. The goal of mankind, as children of God, is to kill the earthly man within one's self in order that the spirit man, as Paul stated, takes over. The earthly man must die so the spirit man may live. This requires great sacrifice. I know firsthand how excruciatingly difficult this can be. Nonetheless, we must disable ourselves of earthly notions such as "only the strong survive" and replace them with Jesus' teachings such as "love your neighbor as yourself". Prayers.

If one looks at pictures of Lord and Lady Lucan in the 70s and then watches contemporary videos of Lady Lucan in recent years, one can't help but notice that the latter appears to be on something. In the 70s, Lady Lucan looked like she was strung out on heroin, or some kind of opiate, and in relatively recent videography she still seems sedated. In both periods, she always had this vacuous, expressionless look in her face and eyes. From what I've read and watched, Lord Lucan was a pill-popper who took stimulants to keep him up during long nights at the poker table and sedatives in the morning to bring him down again so that he could sleep, so illicit drug use seems to have run in the family (indeed, substance abuse was a common characteristic of that set, then as now); consequently, I would not be surprised if Lady Lucan was a coke head or something along those lines. It's really quite a shame because, at the beginning of the marriage, she was quite a lovely creature. The children's eschewing of Lady Lucan in their adult years and their subsequent exclusion from their inheritance upon her death seems to suggest that the children knew that Mommy Dearest's hands weren't exactly clean in this whole affair and that she had somehow played a role in their nanny's death and their father's subsequent disappearance. This suspicion seems furthered when the children reacted with perfect equanimity upon learning that their mother had completely cut them out of her will thereby denying them of their rightful inheritance. The children were like "That's cool, whatever", which suggests to me that none of them wanted anything at all to do with their mother, in life OR in death. I've known of ungrateful children, but ALL of them? No, they knew something.
