Set in a beautiful seaside town on the Italian Riviera, Disney and Pixar's original feature film "Luca" is a coming-of-age story about one young boy experiencing an unforgettable summer filled with gelato, pasta and endless scooter rides. Luca (voice of Jacob Tremblay) shares these adventures with his newfound best friend, Alberto (voice of Jack Dylan Grazer), but all the fun is threatened by a deeply-held secret: they are sea monsters from another world just below the water's surface. "Luca" is directed by Academy Award® nominee Enrico Casarosa ("La Luna") and produced by Andrea Warren ("Lava," "Cars 3").

    After two viewings, Luca became my favorite Pixar movie (I’ve now seen it over 14 times). The way the characters were written and portrayed as well as the themes and messages really spoke to me. For example, Giulia’s family situation (split family and feeling like an outsider in a different city when going to visit your other parent) and how it was treated by not making it a big deal like it is in so many pieces of media. This is something I’ve basically been dealing with for my entire life and it felt nice to have it be recognized that not all families are perfect but that just because they’re not doesn’t mean they can’t work. Luca’s curiosity and drive to learn more about the world around him also really resonated with me. And I see him in the end going to stay in the human world while balancing and accepting his differences as a loose metaphor for immigration. My mom and dad are German immigrants to the U.S and my step mom is a Colombian immigrant and they all still have lots of family in their respective countries. While I’m in the U.S and have to figure how to balance my cultural heritage and family with the ideas and culture of where I live. I was also kind of the outsider/weird kid in school too and the trio friendship setup is almost the same with the friends I had in grade school (and still friends to this day) so it was nice to remember that. The movie’s way of portraying acceptance and talking about it also helped me to do some introspection of myself and helped me to acknowledge and accept the fact that I’m asexual. Luca may be a simple movie plot wise but the profound way it has affected me and the time it’s come at the end of a major cycle of personal growth (graduating high school, starting college, reconnecting with my mom’s side of the family and restoring a line of communication that had been broken for almost 15 years, losing several friends and family members, surviving a pandemic) has solidified it as one of my favorite movies of all time.

    Luca is what’s called a “slice of life” movie where the movie isn’t based around a plot but rather just a snapshot of someone’s life. Also, I know the director denies it, this movie is way too applicable for a “coming out” story. I think the name Luca is even a reference to some director. It just seems too coincidental to not be a hidden meaning behind the movie.

    @@Mjj5557 yeah, the director recently said that they had no intention of actual romance because the kids are too young to think about that kind of stuff. He said that maybe in a few years feelings could blossom, but at the time of the movie it is purely friendship between all three. However, he still hasn’t denied the LGBT themes hinted at in the movie. Such as the coming out metaphors. Hi, here's your favorite italian to explain some easter eggs; The guy in the picture on Alberto's vespa is Marcello Mastroianni, an actor from the 50s/60s. Don't worry, non of us actually knew who he was, only our grandparents could've recognize him (maybe). The whole movie take place in Liguria, near to Genova; the city of Portorosso (which btw means "red harbor") is imaginary, but very similar to real ones! Another point I wanted to make is, the "vespa" is just like a specific type of motorcycle, not a sponsored product. They did not have a partnership for this movie. Well I hope I was of some help, keep up the great work!

The movie is set in Cinque terre, which is a beautiful place in Liguria, you should check it out! If you liked Luca, I think you'll really like the short Ciao Alberto that can be found on Disney+ (sadly, they didn't include it in the Luca disc release). It is about 7-8 minutes long and shows Alberto and Massimo soon after Luca and Guilia leave for school.

  • @Nicamon

    @Nicamon

    2 жыл бұрын

    @@edgarretana8377 Suspension of disbelief ≠ inconsistency. Also...there are *other* things that I"forgot",for example the fact that none of the songs from this movie has *anything* to do with the plot,but they are just a bunch of random old italian songs and the *only one* that would have fit this movie PERFECTLY since it's literally about riding a Vespa("50 Special"by Lunapop)it's not in the movie because it's a song from the '90!And I could have also added that,as an Italian,I'm disappointed that in the italian version they didn't take the chance to make the characters talk in the local dialect, possibly when the characters were speaking Italian in the English version. I mean...the characters from"Brave"and"Dragon Trainer"have Scottish accents in the original version,why can't the characters from"Luca"and"Pinocchio"have Ligurian and Tuscan accents in the italian versions?!? It would make sense!!But no!We have to always dub everything in plain, standard Italian!🙄And,last but not least,I could have complained because I *personally* don't like how the characters look and how simple and"ordinary"the plot is! I mean...the Mexican got that *HEARTBREAKING MASTERPIECE* that it's"Coco"and we get *THIS?!?* A movie about 2 boys going on holiday while copying what"The Little Mermaid"and"Siren"have already done better(showing mermaids wanting to live in the human world and/or facing the racism of landpeople against merpeople)?!?!And what makes it even worse is that everyone is treating this movie like it's a masterpiece only because it's from Pixar and has a great CGI when,in reality,it's a FINE movie.Nothing more. It could be 1 of those movies you find on TV during holiday afternoons that you watch once,you have fun for 1 hour and 1/2 and then you forget,because it's just like *tons* of other similar movies and TV shows you've seen elsewhere!😓But no,since it's Pixar it *HAS* to be a MASTERPIECE!🙄 I could have said *all these things* and I stopped myself in order not to sound too mean. So,seriously,pal,next time...KEEP YOUR POINTLESS CRITICISM TO YOURSELF,please and thank you!😠#DontProvokeMe

    Actually, the walking and riding a bike could make sense. A major factor in humans learning to walk and ride bikes is needing to build physical muscle mass as well as the actual movement. Luca has been swimming his entire life, so he likely has all the muscles needed to do these things, he just needs to learn the physical movement. Also, the physics of falling can be weird, so depending on how you land, you can have very different results. Also, falling through branches actually does reduce the chance of serious damage, because it keeps you from building momentum.
