It’s more symbolic than anything actually gay. The whole movie, Luca and Alberto were hiding who they were from the village, even their friends. When Alberto finally shows everyone, Luca continues to deny it, only showing himself at the end of the movie. The woman at the end even says that not everyone will accept him, but that some will

Love y'all. But please...with the cartoons and demon slayer and what if...Enough. Watch a movie! Keep it up. I just had to get that out!

This is objectively the worst pixar movie of the bunch set in different cultures. The visuals are great, it really gives the feeling of a small Italian town in the 1960s but they really went too heavy with stereotypes (eating "pasta al pesto" for dinner (we don't do that) even though the guy was cooking fish) and they throw random Italian words every other sentence with actors who have no idea of what those words mean (it can be heard in the accent, and the fact that they got plurals and singulars and gender wrong), something they do also in other movies but in this one they really exaggerated. Then of course the gesticulations are all wrong and used stereotypically in the absolutely wrong situations. The writing is also not great, I mean the story is fine but the whole thing with Alberto's father is pulled out of nowhere for no real reason and has no real implication for the rest of the movie.
