LT1 Camaro bolt-ons 📈300hp (before and after DYNO)

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

50hp gain with Exhaust, Cold-Air Kit, Chip and Underdrive Crank Pulley... and the 6-speed models will do even better.
Old LT1 footage, shot many years ago... shows just how easy it is to produce a solid #300hp to the wheels, if this were the 6-speed version, it would most likely pulled 300hp @ the wheels. Keep in mind this is an early 93-95 LT1 and automatic version which only dyno around 230 to the wheels. 6-speed models will produce higher numbers, the later 96-97 automatic cars will produce higher numbers and the 96-97 manual 6-speed models will produce even higher numbers. Thos cars will make 300hp to 320hp to the wheels with mild bolt-ons. It's a bit harder to achieve with the early 93-95 automatic models. Still though, a 50hp increase with just exhaust, cold-air, tune & crank pulley is pretty damn impressive! 280hp to the wheels back in the day made for one fun Camaro. Try squeezing 50hp out of an old conventional 5.0 Mustang with just a handful of basic bolt-ons. You need a set of heads, cam & intake lol. Those LT1 engines were no joke, and let's not even discuss the freakish LS1 lol.
After tweaks and adjustments, the owner ran a best 13.1 second 1/4 mile time at #MasonDixon Dragstrip in 2005.

...another revised video fellas. This is old footage that I shot many years ago, and posted to KZread awhile back, but I've removed the original version, made a couple slight changes (aspect ratio, watermark, etc...) and re-posted this version. Sorry to all the subscribers that has seen all the footage of this particular car, and if you haven't yet seen any of this, I hope you enjoy, and please thumbs up, share your thoughts and post away on Facebook, LOL! Just showing how easy LT1's make power

I had a '94 LT1 Camaro Z28 years ago, and was amazed at how easy it was to make decent power with them. My buddy (the red LT1 in this vid) bought his right around the same time as I bought mine and we had a blast with those cars. I'd like to pick up another one in the next year or two... before prices start to go up and quality of the cars go down, lol. Right now is the window to get these cars as the current market as well as economy is in the toilet... few more years prices will skyrocket.

I have a 93 LT1 (auto, hardtop, 3:23 rear gears) I bought 12 years ago (same paint job as this one). Paid $1200 for it with 123,000 miles on it and a failing opti. It now has 171,000 miles on it. Getting it back on the road for the first time in 5 years. It now has a primer black hood from my previous 94 V6 (hit a deer, messed up the hood and a bright red hatch cause it was cheaper to buy a hatch then to replace the hatch glass. A branch fell on it...) The V6’s blew up so I took as many parts as I could before junking it). The Z28 is mostly stock with just a gutted cat and a cherry bomb. Will add headers once it’s officially back on the road. Leaning towards getting an SLP cold air intake for it soon as well since the original intake tube is shot.

Installing a cam has always been a good weekend job for me... that is taking my time, removing the upper-engine components on a Saturday, cleaning the surfaces, etc... then installing the new cam and upper-engine components on Sunday. I wouldn't suggest taking on a project like this without experience though. The valve adjustment is the critical process, everything else isn't too bad really. You can still make great power with the stock cam. I would just install typical bolt-on mods and gears!!!

Yeah, I see them running between 13.8 and 14.2 most of the time... this LT1 after the typical bolt-on mods ran 13.1 @ Mason Dixon Dragstrip, not bad at all. Right after we finished the bolt-ons we too it out that night and ran into an LS1 model and hit them both from a 40 roll and ran dead even until letting off at over 100. They have LOADS of potential. Probably the "best bang for your buck" car.

My dream 4th gen would be the 93 ZL1 that GM built for their “toy box”. Auto, black with a silver stripe and a 572. They later updated the nose to a later LS1 camaro. They sold it at Barrett-Jackson years ago not long after GM went bankrupt. Only $30k or so if I remember correctly, but it wasn’t road legal. It was on a few episodes of Car and Driver TV. First a couple of tests between an orange SN-95 mustang with a Boss 429 and then for a GM Toys Test. You can find the episodes in KZread but the video quality is bad.

@jmacnicholl97 Back in the early '00s Muscle Mustang & Fast Ford magazine tested an LS1 powered Camaro (can't remember if it was Z28 or SS) but they managed high 12s out of it, as a wake up call to Ford. The actual article is on my website (Mustang-Town . com and it's also on my other website StreetShowDriftDrags . com) The LS1 is nands down the greatest "bang for the buck" motor produced. But, if money is lower, the LT1 is a great alternative. They have loads of potential...

@SN1PERNOSNIPING With these bolt-ons, it ran the same 1/4 times as an LS1 powered F-body, and you see how well it did against the LS1 Camaro SS, the LT1 hung right there with it, & if the LT1 was the 6-speed version it would have done better. My point is, for $3k + $1k in mods, you have a decent F-body that competes with factory LS1 cars & N/A Cobras of same era. (ie: '01 Cobra dyno numbers were right around the same 275-280hp @ the wheels, 96-98 & 99 Cobra was 250-260hp range)

The later 96-97 LT1 cars were certainly faster than the earlier 93-95 models. This 93 ran 13.1 after these bolt-on mods, which basicly was just cold air, a throttle-body air foil and full exhaust (SLP headers, off road Y-pipe and cat-back) ...so no shock that a later 6-speed car with these basic mods cracked 12 seconds. These LT1 cars are the best bang for your buck, or hp per dollar, out there... alot of car for the price you can get these for nowadays.

@johnsskatestuff Bolt-ons, as in minor, common and easy modifications that literally "bolt-on" or outside the motor. Most commonly, bolt-on mods (or otherwise known as "Bolt-ons") don't include Heads, Cams or any internal mods... Bolt-ons are generally considered mods like, exhaust, intake manifolds, throttle-body, MAF, fuel pressure regulators, cold-air kits, underdrive pulleys, ignition mods, injectors, rear-end gears (gear ratio swap like 3.73 or 4.11 ring & pinion), etc...

@johnsskatestuff External modifications that are literally 'bolted on' or are very simple modifications. Intake, headers/catbacks/midpipes (exhaust), throttle body, under drive pulleys, injectors... things like that. Things that aren't considered bolt ons are things like cams, pistons, rods, cranks.. mostly internal stuff. Bolt ons at first are small upgrades that may not bring huge power, but really shine once more drastic mods have been added. Hope this helped at least a little hah.

I have to say that it is a mind bogging to hear that the basic bolts-on the LT1 runs low 13's depending on the set-up. By the way the 4th generation LS1 Camaro are much better and much quicker due to better heads, and airflow compared with the LT1. The LS1 engine is the beautiful architect of small block Chevy engine.

No, you are correct man... but 275hp is the advertised crank or flywheel hp, and approximately 15%-20% is lost through the drive-train (more with automatic and less with manual) The early LT1 cars were advertised at 275hp and produced around 230-240hp at the rear wheels... the later LT1 cars were rated at 285hp and produced a bit more at the rear wheels.

@nickdec19 I've been looking around to try and find another '94 LT1 powered 6-speed Z28 or Formula, to put up against the Mustang project. I want to do a video series, '94 Stang vs '94 Z28 (or Formula, or even T/A) ...basically allow the same budget with both cars, and see where they go... put them against each other on the strip, street and road course. I'm looking!!!...LOL!!!

Also have seen bolt on automatic cars, with stock suspension and converter's turn 13.0's lt1's can easily hit 12's with just bolt on's tires and gears easily its been done many many time's and 13 flat is easy to hit with a bolt on lt1. btw some bolt on non pi's are damn near 12's im sure some are

I believe that... I've seen a low optioned later LT1 hit a 13.8 so surely the right conditions one could squeeze a 13.6 out of an LT1. But that is not 13 seconds flat. Low 14's and high 13's is most commonly seen with these cars. Even a 13.5 wouldn't surprise me, but anything faster isn't 100% factory stock.

anthony littleton Yeah has 3.42 gears. He is actually thinking about selling it. He let his sister-in-law's brother drive it and he smacked the ass end of a truck so it needs a new front fascia, header panel, headlights, etc... he already has a hood. It only has around 70,000 miles (it had around 50,000 when these vids were shot years ago) it sat in his garage for years and only driven a few miles a month. He will let it go cheap because he is looking at some 05-06 GTOs, $2,500 he will let it go I'm sure, maybe a bit less than that.... cash talks, lol. It is a strong running car though, interior is literally mint and everything else besides the nose is perfect. It's a good deal. If I didn't just get that calypso notchback coupe 5.0 Mustang I would jump all over it for sure, it would be in my driveway, lol. 280hp at the wheels for $2k is a deal.

@SN1PERNOSNIPING Absolutely the LS1 is far better versus the LT1, but for those that can't afford an LS1 powered F-body, the LT1 version is still a damn good bang for the buck. Factory 6-speed transmission, and 300 rear wheel, real world horsepower with simple bolt-ons, factory optioned 3.23 or 3.42 gears, 4-wheel disc brakes, factory torque arm, factory pan-hard rod and McPherson suspension, these cars are full blown performers, on the street, on the drag strip and road course.

I took my old websites down. Still have www.V8ponycars.com and www.Mustang-Town.com domains but they are just forwarded to one of my old blogs. I have an LT1 blog as well though. You can email nedaCFilms@gmail.com or text/call 540-229-3824 anytime and I would be happy to pass along all LT1 experience and knowledge I have. My cell doesn't get reliable service at my house. I live in the mountains of northern Virginia, in the sticks lol. Those old LT1 cars have loads of potential!!! Just basic bolt-ons make them perform great. For starters, decent cold-air intake from K&N (KPIK kit) or Moroso will instantly add some horsepower....and a good set of Gears for the rear end. 3.73 is a good all around ratio. Larger diameter Cat-back exhaust with quality muffler will help the LT1 breath as well. Also, a reputable hand-held tuner will allow the ECU to run to it's full potential. These are starters that will help performance and not break the bank.

In my opinion (and I'm sure many will agree) the LT1 powered F-bodies (Camaro/Firebird) are the "best bang for your buck" models out there... when you figure "power per dollar" you can't beat the LT1 models. You can find them in the $2,000 to $6,000 range, and packing just shy of 300hp and a factory 6-speed tranny. Pound for pound they are the best performance car for your dollar, and with simple and basic bolt-on mods and decent set of gears installed in the rear and they will flirt with LS1 models and put down over 300hp to the wheels... Better grab them up now as I'm sure prices will soon rise as these cars are becoming classics in a few years.

You should surely put down over 300 to the wheels. The ported heads coupled with the hot cam and long tubes should make nice power... The LT1 (and TPI) motors run a bit hot, the trick is running a Hypertech 160 stat with that, as well as Hypertech's cool-fan switch... that will help squeeze those last few ponies out of it, lol.

The LT1 fbody has the worst exhaust manifolds you will find on a car. Long tubes alone are 30rwhp on a lt1 and its been proven time and time again over the years. Even some crappy mid lengths will pick up at least 20rwhp. They made the fbody 25hp less with the use of a horrible intake and horrible exhaust. Learn something about a engine before running your mouth about what can and cant happen. Also bolt on only lt1 fbodies have been 11.2's@118mph hope this helps.

However there were no claims made by gm from 93-97 that the lt1 camaros made more or less horsepower throughout the years, excluding slp models. I know that from factory not all cars made the exact same horsepower. Some were milled to perfection and some were only milled to pass inspections. However, a 30+ horsepower Differnce is just about unheard of. Unless it was an lt1 for an impala or caprice that they had swapped.
