LR Baggs ParaAcoustic and Venue DI boxes | Electric Violin Shop

Музыка

Two of our favorite preamp recommendations come from L.R. Baggs: the ParaAcoustic DI and the Venue DI. In this video Matt demonstrates the tone-warming capability of the Baggs preamps and describes their many useful features.

    hello brother do i need a LR baggs DI for a zeta active violin?( since you mentioned at the very beginning that you sell a lot of passive violins hence this is y most fiddlers need a preamp to cover a good signal). is that my case with the active zeta? thank you ✌🏼

    Hi! Matt, wanted to ask. Do I need a equalizer with the L.R Baggs? The reason why I ask is because I have a Boss equalizer that works fine is there a difference?

    It depends. The Baggs has a parametric EQ, but if you like the EQ you have, feel free to use it.

    Hey Matt, I am planning to get the paracoustic di and I have the headway band pickup. I want to add a harmonizer and reverb pedal. Im wondering if you have a recommendation for the set up. Should the lr baggs be the first thing I plug into or the last to the Snake? Or would it be best to use the effects loop? Im very new to amplified strings and your videos have been a huge help!

    I have been using the Para DI with my acoustic and electric violins, and I have been somewhat disappointed using the effects loop like you were thinking. The effects loop sends the signal before the EQ section which effectively puts the para DI after the effects.As Matt mentioned, the tone this way is not good. I just realized this after re-watching this video. I may be looking into something like the Fishman Platinum Pro. Seems like a great option other than the Venue.

    Here's the thing about effects - there are 100 ways to skin every particular cat. It's really best to experiment with all the different ways and see which one gives you the sound you want. Tone is really subjective. The tone I like may not be the tone you like. I would definitely try using the effects loop. If you like the sound you're getting, it's the easiest way to go. Some effects don't work well in the loop - particularly distortion - but harmonizer and reverb would probably sound great.

    Hi Matt... I use an Yamaha SV 255 .. does it require a pre amp or Di ??? another question what is your opinion about Using Eventide H9 Max with Sv 255 ....

  • @ElectricViolinShop

    @ElectricViolinShop

    Hi Shiva. The SV-255 comes with its own preamp/DI box. You should have received a black control box with the instrument. It's a very good preamp/DI that Yamaha has included, so no other preamp/DI is required. The Eventide H9 should work just fine with the SV-255. You just need to connect violin > DI box > H9 in that order for best results.

    Great explanation! What preamp would you recommend for someone who want to use a lot of distortion/effects on an electric violin (hardcore metal)? I want to integrate a preamp to my Pedalboard for those occasions when I'm going directly into the PA. Thanks!

    Hey Matt, thanks a lot for this very helpful video. I've got one question, as you mentioned, the preamp does not sound gut with distortion, so for example with the soul food overdrive in my fx loop it will sound crappy? That's a piti, because I seriously think of buying a venue DI to use with my amlified acoustic and (in the distortion case) also with my Gewa Novita 5 string. What do you recommend? Thank you very much in advance! Greetings from Germany, I really love your videos! Eva

    I just thought, can't you overcome the distortion problem, if you just don't use the fx loop of the pedal but put it just in the beginning of the chain and use the quarter inch out to feed the next pedal in the chain? Then sure you would need another di box to go into the pa

    the ParaAcoustic DI (I have one but never used it, thought it would only be used when there's more than 10 m to the mixer, or can I use it anyway)?- Do I really need the Venue to get a fantastic sound to my Martin... I know the guitar should sound good by it self. But often the sound guy destroys the sound, so I need a thicker and more fulfilled sound. Or is there another pedal you would recommend to make my Acustic Martin sound thick, strong

    Will I get same quality as LR baggs Para DI if I use Boss AD2, since it also have a high impedance input. Is there any major changes between two of them. Currently I am using Fishman V200 as pickup. Can I use the boss AD2 with that. Thank you for replying

    Can't say you'll get the same quality, but Boss is a highly respected company for good reason. I haven't done a comparison between those two preamps, but we did a comparison here where you can hear what different preamps sound like: kzread.info/dash/bejne/rJx3y8F8e9modM4.html

    What does D.I. stand for? Digital interface?

  • @electricviolinshopaccount2045

    @electricviolinshopaccount2045

    Not a bad guess, but a 'digital interface' is something quite different used for connecting your signal chain to a computer, usually via USB. 'D.I.' is 'direct input' and is for connecting your instrument (or effects chain) to the XLR (microphone) input on a mixing console. Does that make sense?

    It does, thanks! :) Hey, I know this isn't the right video, but do you mind if I ask another question? Can you use Boss ME 25 processor to loop and layer all four string parts of, let's say, a 7 minute movement of a baroque violin concerto, then perform the solo part on top? If not, is there hardware could handle a loop of that length?

  • @electricviolinshopaccount2045

    @electricviolinshopaccount2045

    6 жыл бұрын

    Don't think the loop length on the ME-25 is long enough for that. Most Multi-FX pedals with loopers only store 30-60 seconds or so. Instead you could buy a dedicated looper. Even some loopers only go up to 5 minute loop time though, so you'd need one such as the BOSS RC-series or DigiTech JamMan series that have flash storage and allow more recording time. Using a looper with a long enough recording time would allow you to layer four string parts over top of one another, however, just be aware that each time you save a new overdub it becomes part of the track itself, so after four parts are recorded you'll have a single track with all four parts, not four individual tracks that can be separately manipulated. For a recording project like this we might recommend recording them using a digital interface (as mentioned in the earlier comment) to record each track separately on the computer, which would let you manipulate them individually as well as splice together multiple takes, in case there are mistakes in the middle of a take that you want to fix. Your BOSS ME-25 should have a USB output that would allow you to connect to GarageBand or another digital audio workstation software. You can also use your octave effect to record cello/viola parts in the correct register. If you decide to record multi-tracks on a computer, certain loopers allow you to move the .wav or .mp3 files over from you computer, so you could use your recorded trackin in live performance by kicking on the loop. Hope that helps. Let us know if you have other looper questions. Here is a link to loopers on our website: www.electricviolinshop.com/gear-accessories/effects-pedals/loopers.html

    Thank you so much! I should have mentioned I want to do this as a street performance. Can you recommend which loopers I can move the tracks to that I created on the computer (either .wav or .mp3) to play as the accompaniment as I perform the solo live on top? Thank you so very much.

    The BOSS RC-3 (www.electricviolinshop.com/boss-rc-3-loop-station.html) is probably the most affordable looper that offers the USB connection so that you can import/export WAV audio, plus has a long enough recording time for a 7 minute track. The other BOSS pedals (RC-30 and RC-300) and the DigiTech JamMan Stereo do as well, but are more expensive and may offer more advanced looping functions than you really need, at least for this project.
