I'm possibly starting prerequisites in the fall. Thinking about the lpn program at my college. Honestly would it be better to do the adn program instead? I've been a Cna for 7 years now, and currently have an 8 month old son.

I definitely agree though. I did lpn school because I wanted to do lpn first to make money quicker because I have a 3 year old and I want to work as an lpn while in RN school

Also regarding time....if you are a person that has all of your pre-requisites completed you may want to make sure your science courses do not expire. Here in IL some of the sciences are only good for 5 years and if you wait...you will have to retake them. Just be mindful of that. If you have all of your pre-reqs just go with your RN. I know too many LPNs that had all of these pre-reqs done before starting the LPN program and then they got licensed and didn’t want to go back to school right away and their sciences expired. If you are the type of person that know you might want to take a break in between and might not go back even though RN is your goal....just get it done. It’s all about being real with yourself.

I have 3 kids and start Nursing school in September. I am 31 and will be going the LPN route. Over here in Canada, RN takes 4 whole years, I just can't do that right now.

You broke this down honestly and wonderfully. As LPNs, the nursing style is different according to settings. The care is according to individuals. It is disheartening how much non professionalism is present among peers of Nursing PERIOD!!LPNs are stereotyped.I had a passion to be a Nurse to serve humanity is why I chose LPN first- from a PCT- from a CENA.I wish to continue and pray God sees me through. Some RNs eat their young. I just want to SERVE WITH RESPECT AND COMPASSION.

Man, just go & do the RN & be done with it. I'm also talking to hear myself also. I do not have any kids. I rent (apartment) to go to school & I go home to my parents to work on weekends. I can't speak on people with kids, but I would suggest if you can't get family members to watch your kids while you try & better yourself to go to the church (a older member) who have time on their hand to watch a little one & pay & do what you can for them (grocery shopping, cleaning up a lil, maybe cooking them dinner).

I agree you have to consider on a case by case basis! You have to weigh the pros and cons for you before making the right decision for you...side note I hope all is well with you your family and baby.

My theory is if you want to be an RN go to college. It’s tiring and pricey to keep going back to school takes away a lot of time from your family patience is key

Hello I hope you are doing well and taking it easy, I also know that you are in the nesting mode right now so I won't take up too much of your time. So as I am about to take the cna exam, just paid for it so now it's now it's down to the wire. Since you've been where I am you know how I am feeling :-( Here's my questions for you... I know hand washing is one of the skills, but do I hand wash after the other skills or do I verbalize it.. 2. What to wear ( lol ). Thank you so much for your help :-))

Nicole McDaniel Lawrence hi there, i did my test at the nursing home that i work at. I dont even remember hand washing being on there. I do know that technically you can use hand sanitizer if your hands are not visibly soiled (like in between glove changes). But if you are working with a live patient you should actually wash your hands instead of vandalizing it. I jist wore scrubs. My actual clinical test was more lax becuse it was a large group of use and one examiner so we worked in groupa of like 3. Don't fret though, there are also Cna forums and facebook groups that you can use as a reference as well. Good luck
