Loyalty and leadership with Oklahoma Softball Coach Patty Gasso

Patty Gasso is the softball head coach at the University of Oklahoma. She took over the program in 1995 and has led the Sooners to six Women’s College World Series championships (2000, 2013, 2016, 2017, 2021, 2022).
Over the past two seasons, OU has won back-to-back national championships and their record in 2021 and ’22 was an unbelievable 115-7. Gasso is a four-time winner of NFCA National Coaching Staff of the Year, 14-time Big 12 Coach of the Year, and in 2012 she was named to the National Fastpitch Coaches Association Hall of Fame.
Today on the podcast, we begin a series of interviews Sports Spectrum did in Norman with members of Oklahoma’s softball program. First, we sat down with Gasso, the coaching legend herself, and talked about her journey at Oklahoma, trusting in her faith to guide her as a coach, and how she sees her team staying grounded amid all of the success it has had.

This is a opportunity to listen to this lady speak. She mentioned “some people talk just to be heard….” Well, there are many athletic directors across the country who are the same way and promptly proceed to make terrible hiring decisions. I would like to know what Joe Castiglione saw at the time to make the decision to hire her.

Reminds me of my favorite, Pearl Jam, song, faithful, we all believe we all believe trust in the lord good heart content as what makes this program work. It doesn’t matter what religion you are God looks at your heart and your heart towards him.
Amazing to me people believe anything other than the top athletes have anything to do with winning. Show the proof.

How in the world can you talk about loyalty when your best pitcher is a transfer from your rival. Sounds hypercritical to me.
