Lowkey talks Westwood, Fire in the Booth 2, Illuminati & more

Hip Hop MC Lowkey talks Tim Westwood, when his long-awaited second Fire In The Booth will drop, his thoughts on the illuminati & more.
We caught up with him at his show in Southampton with Akala at the Cellar. This was shot just before he retired and he discusses his album Soundtrack to the Struggle, his (then) plans for 2012, the music scene and many other topics.
Thanks again to Lowkey for allowing us to do this interview. Hope to see him back soon.

***** sadly he will never come back due to the fact of his life be threatened by the elite. He is dangerous to their plan of world domination. He opens the minds of the people to what is really going onm they cant have that. Just like Tupac and many others before him.. they will ailence those who oppose.

***** pac I think was a little different no matter what was said in the press pac would still be huge he was the one rapper that no matter what the media said he would never fade. For me personally I think he was killed because basically the whole of America followed him like I think the people would of listened to pac than the government and plus he had money and the power of the people to back his plans up, pac would've ruled the people and in theory American. He was coming off deathrow to make his own label so no more interscope, he would've had his own label that wasnt apart of the machine so he would've had the power to make big rappers like himself

First time hearing this dude was Obamanation song. Good shit. Good to see people awake in Hip Hop. We need to keep growing our own network of people who want knowledge and truth. Instead of changing their world we need to keep creating our own world we control. People like this give me hope that will happen. The ruling power only has the power we allow them to.

Lowkey understands individualism vs collectivism very well and that is encouraging to see. I wish he would have researched Ron Paul here and gave his possible support. Lowkey understands what the New World Order is about as well. Last I heard he is going to college and is done with music for now. He doesn't want a huge spotlight on him and God knows how much fear over his welbeing and safety he feels at times. Lowkey is going low key.

Though the comments might suggest it, I very much doubt that. There's some grime talents out there who are passionate about doing their thing which, yes, is totally anti-system, but I wouldn't consider that cashing in, I would see it as the opposite. Anything's better than MTV. He's fucking talented man and his message is strong.

Watch some of his interviews on Russia Today, might change your mind. Regardless, what he does is social commentary, such as John Lennon or Bob Marley have done before him (Think 'Imagine' by Lennon and 'War' or 'Revolution' by Marley) he does know his stuff. It isn't tantamount to revolution, but the idea is that he informs people, and those people will then make a change. You have to start somewhere.

Try to think of music as a medium that's raising awareness, and because of that new level of awareness, people will be inspired to achieve change in the system. That is the way it works. I don't think many artists expect a revolution based on a couple of good songs otherwise it would've happened a long time ago, not to mention they'd be considered very arrogant.

As far as I know he is much more focused on social justice than on religious issues. The stance on social justice would strongly suggest that he opposes oppression whoever causes it but most of his music is focused on the UK, Iraq, where his mothers family is from, the US and issues in Palestine/Israel. Diametrically opposed? Search Liberation Theology, the structure of the early church and note that Muslims lived in peace and equality with other faiths for centuries in countries such as India.

No, he doesn't focus on it because one man can only tackle so many issues. There weren't many Beatles songs about the suffering of Polish people being abused by Russians in the Soviet Union, nor did Bob Marley focus on the continued mistreatment, abuse and injustice which continues to affect Native Americans.

I can clear this up for you. We spoke to Lowkey recently, he's very happy studying and is enjoying a different means of understanding and challenging power. At the time we did this interview, he did intend on another album but of course, he was interested in studying too and made the choice to do that. It's not anything suspicious, rather he feels passionately about academic education for the moment. Hope this helps - Keshav

I don't care how much progress people make, I care about the efforts they put into it. This world needs to change, and the only people in the way are the people who not only don't try for themselves, but actually criticize others who are *trying*. If you don't wanna boycott Israel or speak the truth, or create artwork that counters the mainstream or write text that challenges the Imperial powers, at least have the courtesy to shut up and let others TRY.
