Lower Wiring Harness Removal 1992 Mercedes-Benz 600SEL W140

Have you ever seen a lower wiring harness come out of a W140 with the V12 M120 engine? If your answer is no then this is the video for you. I'm sending the harness to The R129 Co| Specialist. www.r129.co They are based in Biddenden, Kent U.K

Just noticed this Vid you posted Sheldon , i never received a Notice , Strange . Excellent Job done there . Only one thing , That Harness you took out appears to be repaired already once since the Wiring is not original colored to the Car , also the Metal Bar that passes over the Transmission appears to be missing . Were they any Metal Clips or metal cable Holders on the harness , there should have been 4 o 5 that get screwed onto the engine to hold it firm in place . I repaired mine my self , it's only 5 wires with the Oil sending wire being the complicated one to FIND . Repairing the Lower Harness by one self is fairly easy once the Insulation around it has been removed . BTW : My Harness was completely Disintegrated ,was a miracle this 600 here didn't catch on fire . Some Owners just shouldn't have the Privilege to own or even BUY a car .

Not sure why you weren’t notified. This video has been posted for a while. The harness was definitely altered in some hopeful attempt to get the car running again by the previous owner. I do have that harness repaired now by the R129 Co. I still need to find some time to get a video of me unboxing it and installing it. I wanted to try and repair it myself but I new the harness had been tampered with and I couldn’t find the wiring schematic needed to rebuild it. Good luck with your 600!! Thanks for watching.

Thanks for the video! I thought the transmission wiring was part of the lower harness. Is the transmission one on its own?

Yes it is separate. Are you having issues with your V12?

I have a s500 with a similar harness. The stater is engaging while the car is running. The oil light is on and the oil gauge stopped working. I thinking this could be the harness causing the issue?

That could be the issue. You might also consider that the starter solenoid is stuck causing the starter to remain engaged. The oil gauge and light could be a faulty oil pressure sensor.

Very detailled video. Thanks for sharing! What are the symptoms of a bad lower harness? Could it be related to the ASR light staying on and poor idle/shaking?

Thanks for subscribing and being able to take something from the video. 😁 The previous owner of this car hacked the lower wiring harness in a failed attempt to get it started. The wire that sends the signal from the ignition to the starter wasn’t even there. Also, it looked like they ran other wires that didn’t need to be there. I don’t believe this would trigger a ASR light or contribute to poor idle/shaking. That sounds more like the throttle bodies, vacuum leak, poor fuel delivery, maybe even spark plugs and wires or coils. What year Benz are you working on?

@@linkybird98 My pleasure! So you had to go over the previous owner's mess.😅 That's the worst scenario when working on old cars, but it's very satisfying when you finally get it right. 😁 Mine is a 09/91 600 SEL. I've just replaced the MAF wiring successfully, but after doing so the engine runs rough. It even stalled and didn't show any rpms, but after adjusting the fitment of the ECU boxes those problems are gone. The throttle bodies are working, that's one of the first things that I checked when I bought the car (it had a bad EGAS module). Upper harness was also replace some time ago. Vacuum leaks and coils I'll check thoroughly. Those intake rubber "elbows" that go into the ETAs like to crack a lot. Thanks for the insight.

@@E34Benzin Wow you have a early 600SEL! Mine was born on 4/92. My birth month as well. My throttle bodies have been rebuilt, the upper harness has been replaced by one of the previous owners. I believe there are some check valves on the driver side of the engine back by the fire wall they could cause some idle issues.

@@linkybird98 That's neat! I'm from 92 too, so my car is a bit older than me.haha The early '91 600s are the only ones to have the model badge in the glovebox, I don't know why they didn't continue with that feature. I'll check the whole car, but knowing the lower harness is not related helps me focus on other items. Sooner or later I'll end up replacing pretty much every worn out part.

@@E34Benzin Isn’t that interesting🤔😁! I was wondering when they stopped. I thought for sure before I purchased my car that it would have the badging on the glove box. How did you end up with yours? Do you have videos of it ?
