I used to live in the PNW! Haha, yeah there definitely is a lot to learn about this areas ecology. My tour vids are best at showing what works and what doesn’t. Best of luck with the heat out here

You can find pequins at Maas Nursery in Seabrook and sometimes at Buchanan's

Pequin Chili! So interesting to see that plant again. I bought what I thought was a cayenne pepper plant about 13 years ago, but the peppers it grew were short and grew upright. I am pretty sure it was actually a Pequin like you have there. The tragic end to this story is one day I was walking by and noticed the red peppers that were almost ripe were kind of pale... almost white. And they had a weird texture. I looked closer and the skins of all the peppers had been eaten! Every single pepper, at least 200 was just seeds attached to the stem. By the time I got done inspecting the plant I noticed a BIIIIGGGG caterpillar hanging off one of the branches. I'm talking 3+ inches long and as thick around as a penny. It was very dead. The poor guy ate all the spicy peppers and DIED. No beautiful butterfly (Or moth, who knows) no spicy peppers. Bought cayenne pepper plants since and confirmed they grew different. The few peppers I did try off the Pequin were very good! Should have just picked them all a little early and made sauce or something. Now blueberries grow in that spot.

A Monday Plantu! Aye dawg I clipped the sharp tips off ma agave. Ahhh ye that Pequin chile is the only native U.S. pepper! Find Rocoto peppers. They native Andean so can take a light freeze. They turn into a tree eventually! "Urth es ma plont" 🌱

My next door neighbor planted agave on either side of their driveway. Unfortunately, as it got bigger it would attack me every time mowed, and it was painful. I hated that thing. When they sold their house new neighbor pulled the things out thank God. Placing that agave right at the edge of your border is not a good idea. It will spread out into the yard and will be dangerous.

Love the new plants. They are going to be amazing in your garden.

Last year I threw a combination of types of pepper seeds in a flower pot and ended up growing a chile pequin by accident that grew to 4 ft by 4 ft.

Our century plant grew to 5x5x5 ft in the Houston area....

When it bloomed, that flower went between 20-30 feet!

I tried growing chiles in phoenix az. But I do not have enough top canopy for shade. When a heat wave came in summer. They dried up

My HEB carries native plants and in the Spring, they were selling Chili Pequin plants. Just like Lowe's, HEB consistently has plants on clearance. I rarely have any luck at my Lowe's. Like always, LOVE your videos!!!

Thanks for the vid Paul. Another interesting one. Our monsoon here in Tucson, AZ has been kind of hit-or-miss so far this year. All of the plants you put in are looking nice. Stay save in the August heat and the very best to the family. Gary

Morning from Chibafornia. Pretty miserable here too, supposed to be 91F and 87% humidity. The world is one fire. It has made my area even more tropical for longer, but I know that this isn't good in the long run. We'll see what survives outside. I'm about to do another video on my own place, as I've done a ton of landscaping, but it's all deletion. Probably won't do any addition until next season, since the renovation still has to happen.

I'm in the ATX and tried to grow Piquins this year but they fried. :/ How are yours doing now? Love your channel btw it's one of my faves!!!

Surprised you’re bring plants native to the Rio Grande valley to Houston (9a zone). Seems the moisture level would be different for both zones.

I’d put it in a pot if I were you. Maybe underneath a large oak tree canopy but I think the snow would smoke it

Do you water in morning or night time?

I usually water in the evening. The sun will dry everything up much faster in the morning
