I did porosity test & it says I have low porosity as my hair floats. But my hair is so dry and the quality of my hair matches with the high porosity. I'm confused

The float test is completely outdated. It was popular in 2018 - 2019. The curly hair community & people with genuine knowledge of haircare have debunked this myth years ago. I personally spoke about the issue with the float test back in 2020. We're in 2024 now. I mean no ill will or disrespect here, ive seen content promoting this outdated method of testing for porosity. As a result multiple people are trying the float test and relying on it to figure out their porosity in 2024. :(

In some videos that I saw they say not to use leave in conditioner but some say to use leave in conditioners and hair mask and even in one video they say not use a conditioner but instead they say to use a hair mask but you’re saying to use a conditioner with heat cap. I have dry frizzy hair with low porosity and I don’t know which one to follow

You could* watch my detailed long form video for low porosity hair to understand my complete and comprehensive take on low porosity hair. This short is just a reply to a comment left on that video. The person who left the comment has a very specific issue (which may not apply to you). After all, one mustn't put low porosity hair into one box. Within this porosity type there can be varying needs. For example let's consider -Person A has 2a fine low porosity -PersonnB has 3c coarse low porosity hair I wouldn't make the exact same recommendations to both of them. Their needs would differ from each other.

Avoid protein products. Use lightweight water-soluble ingredients. No heavy oils and butters. Use the heated mask weekly. Rinse and followup with conditioner. We are prone to buildup and especially protein. Which will dry the hair out and cause issues.

Hey. Umh..... I got low porosity hairs but I don't have microwave or flaxseed cap. I have been trying arata leave in conditioner along with sugarboo deep conditioner but my hairs tangle up really and feel really dry. Are there any tips that would help my routine? Or any products? My hair type is 2B as far as I can see.

Try a hot towel treatment for hair while you DC.

Excuse me mam 😊 I've both low porosity hair (root to mid )and high porosity hair( ends).... I'm using coconut oil castor oil and olive oil I don't want to purchase any clarifying shampoo because it has harsh chemicals and I'm allergic to Apple cider vinegar how can I remove build up ?

Using coffee in your regular shampoo helps clarify scalp too..

If you have fine low porosity hair, you may not need to DC. A conditioner + squish to condish will suffice. Look at the comment I'm answering here. This should clue you into the exact person who would benefit from this technique. When one has medium to coarse low porosity hair, sometimes products simply sit on top of the hair and refuse to penetrate the hair shaft. This is when DC-ing with heat helps. Remember that a DC is a rinse off product. Use it sparingly on sopping wet hair + rinse it off thoroughly = you eliminate the chances of build-up. Use it copiously + don't wash it off thoroughly = massive buildup. Hope this helps.

Hi What products to use for hair that is inbetween low to medium porosity? I tried the float test and strand stayed on top of the water then after sometime some sinked till the midway while some stayed on top…Should it be considered as medium porosity hair?

The float test is super outdated. It's not accurate either so dont rely on it to judge your porosity
