Low Mile Old Grain Truck! 1971 Dodge D500 w/ 42k Miles!

Walk around of the new to me 1971 Dodge D500. Has only 42k miles on it! Super slick and nice. Will be helping haul grain to town alongside my Massey Combines. #dodged500 #dodgegraintruck #territorialtrading #territorialfarms

Old time Dodge trucks were right up there for quality, dependability, and durability. Rugged as a rock. Yes!

I got a super similar 71 D500 only differences are the PTO is through the floor and it has Dayton style five spoke hubs with bolt on rims. Mine came from a farm in southern Indiana and I use it now as a heavy hauler for my landscape business. Holds 7 tons and after a very expensive brake job stops on a dime with all 24,500 pounds combined weight. The only issue with hauling 7 tons is the 318!

That's awesome, someone took really good care of it. Parked in the barn most of its life. 😊

T T dad had a f 600 ford 13 ft bed and hoist 8 inch extensions. You could get over 300 bushels on that truck. It was way over loaded. That dodge should make a good small for your farm.

    C. W. Baumgard in Atwood sold a TON of Dodge trucks and pickups in that area. I think there were very few farms that DIDN'T have a Dodge truck product on the place. In McCook if you saw a Dodge farm pickup, you could just about bet they were from Atwood. Is the hoist power-power down?

only problem I see is the old gas in the tank, just keep a few filters handy. tank behind the seat so that should be good. nice purchase.

Definitley lose the split rims. I was expecting at least a 360 under the hood.

They are split ring rims not split rims. Much different.

The 360 wasn't really around until 74. I'm betting the next choice would have been a 361 big block which was still being used in trucks. My neighbor had a 71 Dodge dump truck with a 361.

As pointed out, you are incorrect. The true Split Rim ( known as the widow maker ) was a two piece wheel that separated in the middle and became two halves. The snap ring wheel was a full wheel with the split ring that snapped onto the wheel to retain the tire on the wheel. If kept in good repair and the groove clean they were fine and the later three piece units were even better. Still best to carefully inflate and helped to have a cage or something over the wheel as you inflated. I have close to a hundred trucks and the majority are both kinds of wheels and I just use common sense and care and get by fine. I really have a problem with those who misquote information and pass it as fact when they really don't know what they are saying.
