Low-Cost Chaos? Ryanair Boeing 737 MAX 8-200 Flight Review From Dublin

Ойын-сауық

This flight review covers a flight that was part of the tail-end of a vacation and a final flight home, departing Dublin for Vilnius, Lithuania aboard a Ryanair Boeing 737 MAX 8-200. The prospect of stepping aboard a fairly new aircraft (and something rare like the 737-8-200) should be quite exciting. However, with Ryanair's rather basic cabin and featureless seating, there really wasn't too much to be excited about. But then again, there’s a lot that can be said about Ryanair's service and handling of passengers - as well as the somewhat chaotic experience at Dublin airport. Let's look at all of these factors in this flight review.

I work as ground handling agent for Ryanair . We start boarding when aircraft lands, pax often wait 15 minutes outside ... problems starts when its raining as you mentioned in video 😅tournaround for RYR is 25 minutes , sometimes cabin crew does not have time to clean tray tables , they only collect bigger rubish and sweep the toilets .

My way of thinking when it comes to flying is that It is solely getting from A to B when you choose budget. So when I travel I'm prepared for basically only having a seat and that's it so I have never had an issue with Ryanair.

Ryanair flight attendant here, I can say the conclusion is spot on, most of the flights are fine, but things can go south very easily and if they do, Ryanair doesn't have the resources or the need to deal with it Flying Ryanair is a gamble and that's why people either love it or hate it, there is no in-between

I’ve flown dozens of Ryanair flights over the past 5 years or so. I’d say that for 60pc of the time, I’ve chosen them because of their schedules, the remainder for cost. The boarding experience can be a bit of a misery but I don’t check in bags and I buy a fast track pass for security at busy times - and almost always when departing from Dublin. Punctuality has been generally excellent, the cabin crew cheerful and helpful and (except for the gluten free lasagne) the hot food is tasty and reasonably priced. I know they can be a nightmare when things go wrong but i have had no reason to complain. Their app is generally excellent and easy to use

Getting passengers ready to board the plane rather than getting the plane ready to board is a common approach these days and is much more efficient for low cost operations. But it means everyone is kept standing in these holding areas after showing boarding passes. You were simply waiting for normal ground operations to be completed. On more mainline carriers, *this* is the point the passengers would go through boarding pass check, but it means the plane waits longer for them.

I was in Nice airport the other day heading back to the Uk, since the Uk left the Eu I had to go through passport checks, meaning I had to go through the main duty free area before going into a smaller separate section. There was about 5 flights all delayed at least 1.5 hours (thanks easy jet, all 6 of your flights I’ve been on this year have been delayed 2 hours minimum yet know one else has been delayed) meaning there was more people in this tiny section than the larger section, put it this way, there wasn’t enough seats for 1 plane of people

I think a lot of the Ryanair criticism is overexaggerated to be honest. As mentioned, if you keep in mind the old saying of "you get what you pay for" and understand that you're not going to receive a VIP experience, etc, you can't really go wrong. I've used Ryanair more times than I care to mention and have had no major issues on any flight - always getting me to my destination safely and for the most part, on time. Thanks to the ultralow prices, I've been able to visit many cities across Europe without breaking the bank - something that would have been almost impossible to do if I had to rely on other airlines. However, I'd always recommend just bringing a carry-on bag if possible...

I'm a frequent Ryanair flyer from London Stansted to Krakow. Transiting through Stansted is pretty stress free even if you have to use the automated bag drop. My last flight in November 2022 was on a brand new 737-8 MAX, the 2 extra inches of leg room made a huge difference, overall I was impressed with this aircraft. I've always found the Ryanair staff to be efficient and friendly. Normally I take my own food to eat on board, but I have tried their toasted ham and cheese sandwiches and the 'sippy cup' coffee, and have to say that both were quite acceptable. Overall, my experience with Ryanair would have to be a solid 9.7/10 . You can't expect British Airways Business Class for the prices Ryanair charge. They get you to where you are going, in one piece and nearly always on time or a little ahead.

As someone who lives in Ireland and flies out of Dublin the vast majority of the time, I can definitely say it’s much less chaotic when flying with other airlines. Also, Ryanair only uses Dublin airports older terminal, Terminal 1, as it is cheaper to use. This also adds to the chaos as terminal 2 is definitely more organised.

  • @PaulKGriffin

T1 isn't cheaper to use. In fact it's still the primary terminal for Dublin airport with over twice as many gates as T2. Also T2 only caters for Aer Lingus and airlines from the United States where as nearly all other carriers use T1.

Ryanair has been called out on their 'priority boarding' before. It seems those with priority boarding get called early only to be joined at the back of the queue by the rest of the passengers just before boarding, making it pointless. It's not an issue with Ryanair planes. It's basically a scam to make extra money, make passengers less impatient and give staff a bit of a hurry on when preparing the plane for a turnaround.

  • @barrylenihan8032

    @barrylenihan8032

I actually use priority boarding most of the time. It allows me to bring a carry-on bag, thus avoiding the higher cost and additional time associated with check-in bags. Priority works fine for me at a relatively modest additional charge, which is optional. If I am travelling light and don't need a carry-on bag, then I don't buy it.

I flew from Israel with Ryanair tens times, since I orgnaize groups to visit Jewish sites in East Europe. In recenr 3 or so years - it's impossible. My credit card is denied when I try to buy online. I asked in the company and they answered that it's not their problem because they don't busy themselves wiith confirmation of credit cards. I asked in my credit card company, Visa Cal and after somewhat long time they answered that they have the same trouble with other passengers as well, but Ryanair doesn't cooperate , thus they can't solve the problem. I have no such problem with other airlline companies. Somewile ago I flew with a group from Kaunas to Budapest and Ryaneair offered very cheap tickets. I tried to buy not on the companie's site like I used to do all the years, but through Kiwi and the purchase went with no problems. I asked Kiwi to issue for me the boarding passes, a srvice they claimed on their site that they do. But when in the Kaunas airport I was informed by the clreks in the Ryanair stand, that I have no valid tickets. They claimed that Kiwi cheated me and didn't pay Ryanair for my tickets although they charged me and I had the documentation for it. After an hour debate, they said that ok, we can fly but I have to pay 55 euros (way over the ticket price) for each boarding pass, which Kiwi declined to do. I had no choice but pay.

As you say, you get what you pay for. We have flown Ryanair over 30 times. It's a cheap way to get somewhere, but generally it's ok. Their boarding procedure is rubbish with no proper queuing facility especially at Stansted, where their boarding gates are a free for all That def needs sorting. Dublin Airport is an overcrowded mess. A genuinely unpleasant experience. Ridiculous 'Conga' queues for security, way too long, giving most passengers real anxiety about missing their flights.

I've flown numerous budget airlines across the globe from Frontier to Kalula and have flown Ryanair a few times before and it's surprising on how different flying on a low cost carrier like them can make you feel. I mean, I fly easyJet quite a bit and they feel almost like a regular airline and have had no issues and quite enjoy flying with them. With Ryanair, it's pure misery (for me), you feel like cattle and I find the whole experience is not at all enjoyable. The cabins are a pure headache to look at, the adverts, jingles and everything else is just unpleasant. The only airline I've flown on where I've experienced rude cabin staff. I mean, you get what you pay for, that doesn't mean to say that it shouldn't be a miserable experience. I'd sooner pay more not to fly with them.
