Injectors will get replaced as far as the block with 300 plus thousand miles. I be doing a lot of fundraising because it's for my sons dually & a stroker build is what he wants 496 bigger cam of course. He wants as much torque low speed N/A. He's already happy with the factory power as is but be nice to upgrade. Great time to go through mid-life I get to build something for my son. See You on the next Notification 👏👍😎✌

Also, I have some info on improving the EFI system. I had this motor installed with the stock intake in my monte carlo (viewable on my channel) The factory common rail marine style fuel rail was a huge pain in the butt, and also, it is difficult to keep the rail lined up. I added 80 lb. Siemens injectors, and spent two and a half weeks balancing between having a vacuum leak and a fuel leak. I recently purchased Holley EFI intake 300-561 (Edelbrock makes a version of the victor jr that is comparable), and Edelbrock's 4150 Throttlebody (co-incidentally both the mounting flange pattern and the part number). The Factory L29 TPS, IAC, and MAP sensor plugs, plug directly into the Throttle body, allowing you use the Edelbrock on board MAP sensor. I will do a video for you EFI L29 guys showing you some options for fitment, and lets see if we can peer pressure Richard into Dynoing them.

For your question on springs: I Recently put together a gen 6 with stock heads, used crane 99896 springs, Comp rotator eliminators, crane 99970 retainers, and some .050 taller locks. They are a dual spring so I did have to cut down the guides for seals, and to clear my cam’s lift of 598 on the exhaust. But each spring was installed at 1.900 or a few thousands shorter. No coil bind issues with those springs

Avoid vehicles hit hard enough in the ass the rear axle is moved forward. There's a chance the driveshaft has acted like a battering ram and pushed on the trans enough to move the crank a bit (that will require a minimum of main journal machining to repair, if it can be done). Check for signs of massive leaks--oil attracts dirt, gasoline cleans what it touches. Look in the radiator, a rainbow sheen suggests oil got into the water--either a crack or a bad head gasket. If it looks like French Vanilla ice cream, that could be just condensation. Pull the dipstick--if it looks like it was blowing oil, that could just be a bad PCV. If it has none of these sins, put a breaker bar on the crank snout and see if the engine spins. If its freed up, then pay about what you could get back selling the individual parts of the engine (in case closer inspection reveals a bad engine). Take home, do a compression test (unless you're good at doing it with a bicycle pump at the junkyard). If you're putting the engine into an actual vehicle instead of a dyno, there's a 50% chance your water pump is too short or too long for the radiator, so replace it and timing chain and you're probably doing a cam swap at this time (nastier the cam, the more you have to pull the heads to check with clay for valve clash. good idea to check valvetrain lash and make sure the rocker arms aren't shaving themselves into the oil). If you're replacing the piston rings, you're doing a rebuild, not a freshening up. But if you plan on boost, you want a big ring end gap so the rings don't butt together. Chances are a high mileage engine already has done it for you. If you swap to headers, soak the flange gaskets overnight in water, and install wet. They'll form to fit, and retighten after firing off and drying off. If this was some engine made before the 1980's chances are the oil is sludge. This is the ONLY time someone should clean with gasoline. Pour some of the leftover lawnmower gas in thru the intake (if you do it thru the valve covers, it can eat the rubber valve seals, but you're probably gonna replace them sooner rather than later anyway) and slosh the engine around on a stand or 'picker. It won't clean all the sludge, but after you run some modern oil (ie, detergent), you might be no worse off than any other used engine. Final issue with any engine swap is the radiator--its full of whatever rusty scale was in the old engine, do you want that in the "new" one? The cheap-o block clean is to run a cap of laundry detergent in the rad and get the engine up to operating temp--in other words, turn it into a washing machine. Then flush the block out totally, refill cooling, burp it totally of air (put front end of car up in air, drill tiny hole in thermostat, leave alone for all air to bubble into highest part of rad, then run with a funnel full of coolant until it stops blowing bubbles). and that's the shade tree mechanic way.

Excellent video Richard. Next, late model fuelie 460. Not the dove heads or anything from "back in the day". North east rust belt there's lots of '90's 460's and while everyone say "get a set of blah, blah, blah heads, I want to know how well it works with the factory low compression, too big of quench area and poor factory ports. Run it efi, then dual plane and 650 ( or 750 vac sec) then put on headers, then a torque cam. (214/224@.050 and 512/536 lift for example). Loved the older 460 but up here in the east, if it's older than 20 years it's already rusted out and gone. But, lots of 88-95 f350's just waiting for a hot rodder in the junk yards. Thanks.

Richard. Back in the day, a friend of mine had a 82 mustang with a pretty stout 302. It was set up with the Z cam, victor jr intake, a 750 double pumper, headers, etc. The only thing was he was using a set of small chambered 289 heads (for compression) that were ported and had 1.940" intake and 1.600" exhaust valves. He would shoot a 100 shot on it and it would gain 150 at the wheels vs no nitrous. Have you ever had a nitrous experience where the the oxygen was so bottlenecked that the power jumped higher on NO2 than the jet ratings?

I love Big Block Chevys. there is nothing as cool as popping the hood and seeing those massive valve covers. I see tons of LS swaps, but it is just an ugly engine. even with the covers on it. where the visual impact of a BBC is just awesome. not to mention the only thing that beats an LS for power is a BBC.

Just out of curiosity, is there a correlation between engine and price? EG, Mopar 360 vs GM 350 vs Ford 5 liter. Is there a price difference for gen changes? What is the average price you pay for engines, and is that a special price for your volume? Love all the testing and the knowledge you share. Thanks for sharing.

I'm wondering what would it take to shift that power curve to be able to have lower torque sooner and to be able to Rev out out to 7,000...dish pistons, better cylinder heads, different camshaft and springs, better intake? 🤷‍♂️ how about a NA Big Bang 454...wondering could this engine make 700-800hp NA without a crazy amount of low end torque

Skipped a step compared to the standard LS tests? A small (218/220ish?) though bigger than factory cam used with factory efi since you can tune for it easy enough with the Holley system. Just for those guys that actually use them in a truck/suv? Do ported factory heads or just bigger valves and a bowl port make difference with the stock efi manifold. Does a bigger throttle body make difference, does the abrasive silly putty help the factory manifold enough to warrant the expense in a truck application. Many steps Missed/omitted, not to mention the rumored gen V/VI Hybrid motor test??
