Low Back Pain Decompression: Self-Massage the Lateral Raphe

The Lateral Raphe is a thick connective tissue seam formed by the three layers of the thoracolumbar fascia, at the intersection of these layers where all the back muscles converge. It lays on the side seam of the body and runs like a zipper between your twelfth rib and iliac crest.
Lateral = Side; Raphe = Grove.
This lesser known but very powerful connective tissue influences the fluids and tensions of every layer of your core. This simple but dynamic traction move will help ease tensions in your back, reduce organ irritation, help with menstrual cramps, and give you more felt sense (proprioception) between your pelvis and rib cage, increasing postural awareness.
Follow along with Jill and gain more by doing less. You can choose to remain still and work the breath or incorporate deep core muscles by adding pelvic tilts. Whatever move you choose, you will feel the groovy effects of this low back decompression.
The Coregeous® Ball is an inflatable, air-filled sponge ball with a unique grippy "skin" used to massage and activate your core, stretch your psoas, and more. This special tool allows you to gently and safely access your innermost abdominals, and adjust any rollout with a more gentle approach. (approx. 22" round circumference and 7" high but can vary up to 1").

Thanks! I was just trying to share this exercise with a student who isn't on Facebook (where you had previously posted about it) and voilà, you generously posted it here. This technique has been absolutely life-changing for me.
