I realize this video is a few years old. But since pansies are my favorite flower, I know one important fact that you might want to know. They are actually a winter flower that dies out when the weather turns warm in early summer. Yes, that is right. They love the cold down to zero degrees Fahrenheit. So they do well in Texas, but only in the winter. Otherwise, I love the painting! Very colorful and full of my favorite flower!

@@gingercooklive Yes, you could get seeds or the plants from nursery. Here in Texas, they had pansies (in pots) at Home Depot I think in January when it was still cold. They lasted about through mid May I think. Sweet peas?! Yes, they are sweet!

StudioSilverCreek Thank you so much. I was at the art store (Jerry;s) today andsaw 4 inch edged gallery wrap.. This would be really nice painted a bit bigger with that wider edge too. I am tempted myself to paint it again 40x40 and use gels and a palette knife for the flowers. Unlike Cinnamon who has the entire multi camera set up, I use a Hovercam up on my desk so am limited in how wild I can go in any video. #lovesummerart

Hi Ginger, I tried this twice and I guess painting is not my thing! I want to paint so much but I just can't seem to get it right. I find that painting comes easy to people who paint but to me yikes! Thanks, I will keep watching. You are an excellent artist! (Aug. 17/15).

Ellie Mercer Perhaps you need to start with something more simple so that you can get the feel of the paints. Just for fun, go try the Dragons eye as this video starts with basic layering. Make sure you are using professional acrylic paints as what happens is that poor quality paint makes you believe it is your fault but it is the fault of the poor pigments of the paint Use chalk to draw Use a hair dryer, and do it small, 8x10. Get a win with this one and then see what you think. (professional acrylic paint is generally a different price for each color. Liquitex Heavy Body, Golden...) email me what you have painted so far, and I will tell you what went wrong. www.gingercookstudios.com

***** You are so precious. Interesting because I have taken classes and the teacher is amazing but tells us to use dollar store acrylics because it works (she says). I do have the expensive acrylics and I do use a hair dryer, also have flowing mediums actually pretty well bought it all lol. I have painted landscapes before and they weren't bad. This teacher doesn't believe in us using Gesso to prime our canvasses or use mediums to help blend and layer so it's not easy trying to get the effect I want without these things (I do prime my canvasses). Other students in the class are really good and to be honest I think I'm too hard on myself Ginger, I want it picture perfect! I don't know what my problem is but I do thank you so much and will certainly buy more Galleria paints and Liquitex as you mentioned above and keep at it hahahaha. God bless (smile). -Aug. 17/15.

Ellie Mercer Make sure you are buying the liquitex HEAVY BODY. I am not a fan of Galleria Acrylics. I like Golden however. You would do well to make sure each canvas has an under painting that is painted on and is dry before you start the painting. I prefer to lightly sand the canvas rather than gesso again. Use your cheap acrylics for your under painting instead of gesso. Ginger

***** Thanks and yes I do sand after priming with Gesso. Will use cheaper acrylics for under painting. Too bad 'teacher' didn't advises this lol. Take care (smile).

Ginger, it would be very helpful if you listed below all the different colors, tools, canvas size or anything that would be need edge to paint the picture you are demonstrating. That way students can start with you and not have to constantly get to look for materials. or maybe not do it st all because they don't have the right materials.
