This was one of those songs that it didn't matter where you lived, who you were, what ethnicity you were, it brought pure unity. This song came on you bet everyone within earshot was dancing, skating and having a good time. Very few songs have this magical power over the human spirit.

I danced to it in the clubs in a small town when the song came out in the 70s, and as a 61 year old white woman today, I get up and dance every time I hear it. It’s timeless and like you said Dan, this is a song you just cannot jam to. I love it just as much today as I did then.

That goes for most of the 80's! It didn't matter and it looked like things were going in the right direction.......and now we're a couple of decades later and nope, things just got worse.
The keyboardist is my friend, Steve Cox. The Dazz Band were originally called Kinsman Dazz (as in dance-able jazz)and they were huge here in Cleveland. I met all these guys when I was managing a Pro Audio music shop in the 80s. They received a Grammy for this tune. My pal Steve is now Trisha Yearwood's keyboardist. Class guy and a great musician. Sorry for the tell-all here. This brings back many great memories. Love you J and Amber. Peace and love to all here. God bless.

@@alhollywood6486 As stated, Steve is a class act and nice guy. He's doing pretty well with Trisha for sure. Fun note...he used to sit in with my band. He'd bring a small keyboard and a ton of guitar pedals. He could play Hendrix songs note for note on that keyboard and if you had your eyes closed you would swear it was a guitar!!! Very cool. As a kid in the early 80's, It was an awkward and difficult time for me. I was shy and bullied a lot. But, there was 3 songs that always lifted my spirits and brought me comfort. Kool and the Gang's "Celebration." Earth, Wind and Fire's, "Let's Groove." And The Dazz Band's "Let it Whip." To this day, I still get such joy listening to them.

There's a little extra joy for some of us old farts that grew up on this music, knowing what you are about to hear and watching you react... in this song particularly... the moves... the song itself, the woo-hoos, and the singer solos... I love watching y'all discover the music of my youth and appreciating the diversity of it all... the 70s and 80's were a blast to grow up in... we saw funk, rock, metal, disco smooth rock pop all coexist in a wide open musical landscape... without judgements... your enthusiasm and positivity are infectious... thank you both!

This song was definitely one of my FAVORITE songs to dance and roller skate to! The roller skating rink that I use to go to (called Skate Ranch) almost every single weekend in 7th, 8th, & 9th grade was so much fun! It had 2 pool tables, 1 air hockey table, 1 ping pong table, MANY arcade games, and amazing food, a huge skating rink and in the middle of the rink were 3 good sized dance floor where we could take off our skates and break dance, regular dance, whatever we wanted to do. Oh thanks for bringing back fun memories of my 12, 13 & 14 year old self (7th, 8th & 9th grade). Those were the best of times! Much love to you guys ❣️✌️

Though they had a ton of R&B hits, this was Dazz Band's only Top 40 hit on the Pop charts. "Joystick" and "Let It All Blow" are two more of their bigger hits. The name comes from "danceable jazz". Bobby Harris is the lead vocalist (has been since Day One), and also plays sax.

Sometimes you forget just how much you love a song until you hear it. I was 18 when this came out. It was played at least 2 times a night in the club I hung out in and we danced our butts off every single time.
You two are hitting the soundtrack of my high school years. I'm here for it
I swear 60% of the songs y'all have reacted to in the past year I have either the 45, the vinyl album, the cassette or the CD of them! I travel from Wisconsin to Georgia a few times a year to see my family and the entire trip I sing and dance drive to this music. Folks see me moving in the car as I'm driving and they point and start moving with me with huge smiles on their faces. It's a 18 hour concert featuring me! I can't tell you how much I enjoy your reactions. Love you guys so much! ❤️
I’m 61 years old and i still dance in my car when this comes on the radio.
The show they were on was AMERICAN BANDSTAND...along with SOUL TRAIN this is how I spent my Saturday afternoons...Great times
The extended version is perfect for cardio on the treadmill... Perfect to go with "Play That Funky Music White Boy"
I was 14 when this came out. R&B married to Funk and the Dazz Band was their Love Child.
This is the MOST I have ever seen Jay dance!!!! Love it!! The Dazz Band definitely made everyone get on their feet. Even the most shy wallflower. 😊

Absolutely the best roller-skating song ever. #2 is You Dropped The Bomb On Me.

I'm 52 years old, and I remember when this song was new, and in constant rotation on the radio. Growing up in the 70s and 80s, I took the music for granted. Now, I realize just how awesome and timeless the music of that time was.

Great song with great memories. Etched in my head for about 40 yesrs. Always caused over crowding on the dance floor. Jay you are always talking about going crazy on the dance floor, this would've been the song for you. Good, bad, or ugly dancer; didn't matter. You got on the floor for this song.

My Jr. High and High School years were Led Zepplin, Heart, Boston, The Eagles, Jackson Brown, Lynard Syknnard, Pink Floyd, the Bee Gees, Donna Summer, The Boss. College and my 20s was New Wave, Prince, B-52s, Journey, George zmichael, Duran Duran, INXS, Genesis, Janet Jackson, Michael...dancing every night. You get the gist. I just love watching you discover all of these great artists, getting into eveything and most of all, you both just make me smile.
This use to be our song to play pre going out dancing all night in the 80s. Lol
Even in little old New Zealand where I grew up this song was the vibe back in the early 80’s and used to instantly pack the dance floors at the night clubs, great to hear it again.
