The white dresses have 2 reasons: 1 - they are so freaking small they have to stand out on stage somehow. 2 - it compliments their musical style, a vast majority of metal is dark sound, dark lyrics and men dressed in dark outfits, so Lovebites contrasts that with positive and uplifiting songs and white dresses.

You just reacted to my favorite band. They are amazing. Haruna, the drummer, is drumming fast en good for 1.30 to 2 hours straight. The singer Asami had 2 years of ballet training and has an R&B background. Midori, the blond haired guitarist is an amazing shredder. The other one, the black-haired guitarist, Miyako, writes lots of their songs, like this one. The bassist Miho is also an amazing bass-player. The dresses is an image. They wear them in all their live shows. Another great one to react to is “Edge of the World” from the same show from 2020. All their songs are great to react to. Especially the live ones in Japan. Thank you for this reaction.

"She can play too!" Indeed. Midori, the blonde, and Miyako, the brunette who recently got married and is either pregnant or has just had a child, have different guitar styles which they used to strictly adhere to, though they've relaxed that in their more recent work. Midori typically plays a more technical, shred style while Miyako has a more blues-influenced style and uses a good amount of wah. I don't bother trying to figure out which is "better" than the other; I just enjoy them both for the wonderful, highly-skilled, tiny musicians they are. As far as a recommendation goes, I'm going to hold off on recommending anything from LOVEBITES and suggest something from a band you have yet to post a reaction to. They're called the Wagakki Band. "Wagakki" means "traditional Japanese instruments," and the band's eight members mix those instruments with modern guitar, bass guitar, and drums. They're top-level musicians with production values like the Trans-Siberian Orchestra. The song I'm recommending is "Senbonzakura," and while there's an official video for it, the guitar is hard to hear for some reason. Here's a link to a great live version from 2018. kzread.info/dash/bejne/paespayBiKrIo5s.html

Thanks for the reaction. Lovebites is straight up power metal and thrash metal band. This might be some important info to answer your question: - Their songs are inspired by 80s bands(Iron Maiden, Helloween, Metalica, etc.). - They say Japanese women are tiny, so they wear white dresses to keep them visible on stage. - All of their songs are in English (maybe a little difficult to understand because of Asami's Japanese accent) - They won metal hammer 2018 in the Best New Band category and became the first (Japanese) girl band to perform at Wacken, Bloodstock, Graspop Metal. - Yes they sound great because their audio was mixed/mastered by people who also worked on Nightwish, Stratovarius, Children Of Boddom in Finland. - Miyako was a trained piano player since childhood. They have a lot fantastic, if this song too fast for you I will suggest their slower songs like: Frozen Serenade, Burden Of Time, Epilogue

Miyako lays down the piano backing track herself, the singing you could hear was the audience. It is their way of being more distinct and visible on stage, also bucking the heavy metal persona of mainstream bands ie black leather, scruffy shabby beards etc etc. Check out any one of their 65+ original songs, not a single bad one in their entire repertoire! Best and most talented band in the world right now......period!!

Hi Todd! Yes Lovebites uses backing tracks in some songs, but always to enhance the song, never to cover up any deficiencies as you will see. The outfits fit in the theme of the band, positivity in a metal world where is mostly dark. Also they are very small and white helps on stage! Try their songs Break the Wall, Holy War, Raise Some Hell, all live 2020! 🤘🐺🎸Thanks!

They do use overdubs sometimes, though, definitely to cover deficiencies in solos. It's especially apparent on some songs on this specific show. There doesn't seem to be any of that on Awake Again or Battle In the East. They definitely can play all this, but I'd rather they didn't.

  • @JohnPMatias16

    @JohnPMatias16

@@Argumemnon overdubs to cover deficiencies in solos? That is 1000% incorrect. They use overdubs and backing tracks on occasion, for synths, orchestral or piano parts, nothing else. These girls play their guitar parts without the need of any kind of help, just like Asami sings without any kind of auto tune. Are you seriously putting their skill into question by doing such a claim? As someone that has seen them live twice, their skill on the guitar, bass and drums (as well as voice) is second to none. They sound live exactly like you hear them here, that is how impressive they are, and they actually play all their parts without breaking a sweat and without "overdubs" to cover any mistakes. There is at least a live performance here on youtube in one of their songs ,"Break the wall", that Myiako makes a tiny mistake in one of her solos, and they uploaded the video without processing the sound, because those tiny mistakes can happen. In the two concerts I have seen them live, they made zero mistakes and were pulling it off right there and now, no tracks, no overdubs, no nothing. If you ever get the chance, go see them live. Nothing will prepare you for that experience.

@@JohnPMatias16 No one's putting their skills into question. You don't need to be defensive or to sing their praises -- you're preaching to the choir here. That said, just because I love the band doesn't mean I'll ignore reality. ALL musicians make mistakes (except Syu, of course). And my comment was a matter of fact, not an opinion. There are some instances, especially on Five of a Kind, where you can clearly see that the sound doesn't quite match what Miyako, for example, is playing. It's particularily visible on the solos of Break the Wall (vibrato without hand movement) and the Hammer of Wrath (where she ends the solo way before the soundtrack does). In both cases it isn't a matter of editing. There's no way around it: either they overdubbed a solo that Miyako wasn't satisfied with or -- and I'm sure you'll agree this is ridiculous -- they were pretending to play over a backtrack. Since I know for a fact that Miyako and Midori can play these solos (from actually seeing MYK play live and on stream) the latter option makes no sense to me, on top of being very risky. I'm married to a Japanese and I know how exacting their perfectionism can get. This is simply an instance of an artist not being satisfied with part of a live performance and correcting a few solos for the Blu-Ray release. Again, I wish they didn't do it because on some other releases they didn't and it sounded just fine with the small mistakes, but I'm not them.

Lovebites brought me here. Welcome to the best new metal band to come along in decades. In their five years of existence as a band, they set a standard that easily puts them on a par with the greatest bands of metal’s golden age. Some background: They were formed in 2016 from the remnants of a legendary all-girl Japanese metal band called Destrose (yes, all-girl metal has been a thing in Japan since at least 1981). Miho (bass, chief headbanger and soul of the band) had a vision of a new band in the style of the greatest European bands of the golden age of metal. She recruited her former bandmate Haruna (drums, 4'9" “pocket nuclear reactor”); they needed two world-class guitarists, and so they went and found Midori and Miyako, who were with other bands. As you just saw, Miyako is also a professional-level classical concert pianist--she was headed for a career in classical music, before picking up the guitar at the age of 18. She wrote “Swan Song” using elements from several classical pieces including the Chopin Etude. The whole group then found Asami, the singer, who was doing soul and blues at the time (she also trained in ballet). Miyako has composed most of their music, with Miho composing a lot of their thrashier songs in collaboration with Mao, the lead composer of another band called Lightbringer. Midori has also been getting into the act, and they regularly perform a song written by Haruna as well. Asami writes most of the lyrics. They studied all the great historical metal bands going back to Purple and Sabbath, through Maiden, Priest, Metallica, Helloween, Slayer etc. They toured with Dragonforce in 2019, and word from those in attendance is that next time around, it will be the ladies headlining. They have incorporated some of the best of each of those bands into their arsenal, and have created a sound that is fresh and cutting edge while paying tribute to the old masters. This is a dive into the deep end for a first reaction, but a great choice! They do everything from soulful power ballads to heavy thrash. Almost every song includes face-melting solos by Miyako and Midori. The two guitarists are quite different in style and tone. Midori (blonde ponytail) is the extrovert and speed demon; Miyako is the introvert, with the more soulful feel (though she can also shred like a demon). Midori uses a cleaner tone, Miyako uses more distortion, pinch harmonics and pedal effects. The contrast makes their duets rich and dynamic. It doesn’t hurt that either one can smoke most of the shredders in the classic metal bands. As another reviewer said, "It seems criminal these two are allowed to be in the same band." They are one of those rare bands that sound perfect live. Here are some you should definitely check out: Their most recently posted live clips, “Set the World on Fire” kzread.info/dash/bejne/a22u1apvmarFZsY.html and “Don’t Bite the Dust” kzread.info/dash/bejne/oXyiral-mpSpfcY.html, which are both from their recently released concert DVD “Heavy Metal Never Dies”. "Edge of the World" and "We the United", back to back: kzread.info/dash/bejne/paBkj7dmqc6wc7g.html They form an incredible journey from darkness and despair to light and hope. Also, “Empty Daydream”, which starts as a ballad and becomes a real rocker: kzread.info/dash/bejne/noycwdeGfZyamrg.html; “Holy War”: kzread.info/dash/bejne/lJt12tJ-oKjJntI.html For a thrasher with heavy Metallica vibes, “Break the Wall” kzread.info/dash/bejne/eWRmk8OJYsTVZrw.html includes two gorgeous and completely contrasting solos by M&M. For a heart-stopping ballad, “Epilogue” kzread.info/dash/bejne/Y62i0Lp9lqjUnrw.html (this includes a second song, your choice whether or not to react to both) Finally, while you will sometimes hear you should only react to live clips, actually their MV’s are epic and worth seeing. Here are three of the most spectacular: "When Destinies Align" kzread.info/dash/bejne/moB6x86CaZa8m7A.html "Glory to the World" kzread.info/dash/bejne/X6t-1qZriKi-eJc.html "Winds of Transylvania" kzread.info/dash/bejne/eqd5lrebj7PQmJs.html. You'll get lots of suggestions, just one thing: don't bother with Bloodstock footage, the sound quality is poor. Best to take suggestions with actual links. Also, you can’t go wrong with any of their official clips. Welcome to the Wolf-Pack!

Back track? Oh yes, they use it whenever it is effective but only as an effect. That piano back track is done by Miyako the guitarist/pianist anyway. That Chopin Ocean Etude style piano back track is very effective isn't it. It is better to have it in this piece. They are just practical and don't hesitate to use it to make the best sound. The chorus as well, very effective to produce epic atmosphere and it is very successful. The singer is not using her microphone with the chorus because she wasn't needed to really sing in the case and she is not hiding it, but she is trying to stimulate audience to sing along instead. The guitarists playing solo separately is very rare for them. They usually exchange solo, and play unison or chorus together after played each solo. If you are in thrashy side, try Set The World On Fire kzread.info/dash/bejne/a22u1apvmarFZsY.html If you like a Power Ballad, try Edge Of The World kzread.info/dash/bejne/h46e2q-jctLWZ9o.html If you'd like to know how they use back tracks, try Dystopia Symphony kzread.info/dash/bejne/pYh_qq2sgq_gado.html BTW, Dystopia Symphony is an hommage to Beethoven Piano Sonata No.8, and Swan Song is based on Dovolzark New World and Chopin. Miyako also composed Above The Black Sea and Under The Red Sky as love letters to Rachmaninov. All five members, they compose, write, arrange, and play instruments (include singing). Miyako is playing powerful piano in Dystopia Symphony again. She is a pianist who also plays guitar which is world class top notch. Guitar is her secondary instrument and piano is the primary. She started playing piano at her 3, and started self teaching on guitar at her 18 with instruction books.

Lovebites has no bad songs since 2016 they have produced 3 albums 4 EP's and 4 Live albums. Destrose members Miho and Haruna got together after the band folded and formed Lovebites recruiting guitarist Midori (Blonde) and Guitarist/Pianist Miyako then they all found R&B Singer Asami who had never sang metal before and the idea was to form a band inspired by 80's british metal like Iron Maiden and Priest. Songs I'd recommend are too many to list but here are a few to start: Shadowmaker Inspire Rising Set The World On Fire The Awakening/Hammer of Wrath Thunder Vengeance Break The Wall Edge of The World Empty Daydream Epilogue Scream For Me Burden Of Time Spellbound A Frozen Serenade Today is The Day

"I'm not going to react to Chopin." "That was pretty dang good." You reacted to Chopin. Got a kick out of that. Yeah. Miyako is amazing. I agree with your assessment of backing tracks in concert. Studio recordings have so many tracks that is is impossible to replicate live without adding more members to the band or backing tracks. Your reaction to the song is excellent. I think the drummer, Haruna, must run a double marathon in concert. Somebody's 10 year old daughter once said of the outfits, "Even princesses can play heavy metal." With the complexity of the music I don't expect the members to run all over the place. In other videos you will see bassist Miho be more animated. Guitarist on the left Midori is very expressive with her face. All are world class musicians. Again, a good and fun reaction.

Miyako/guitar and piano drops the backing track in via her foot pedal but it is her playing you are hearing. However, the piano is central to this group, Asami/vocals plays a few tunes on the keys (normal player), Miyako is classical trained since age 3 and self taught the guitar at 18, Midori/Blond guitar gave up piano and Pharmacy school at 20 to learn guitar and the drummer Haruna started on the piano before switching. Insane talent in this group especially LIVE where their relentless pursuit of flawless perfection is on full display. All petite (Haruna 4' 9"; Asami 4' 10", Midori and Miho/bass are 5' and Miyako the giant at 5' 2") thus the white dresses to stand out and be seen easier. They play in gown and high heels as they wear their femininity proudly yet can smoke any band out there in them with ease. Power, Thrash, Speed, Prog, Rock, Ballads and even classical piano & Metal are within their 50+ songs from 2017, and everyone of them is great, some more than others but not a dud in there. Try these other to feature the bands talent: Scream for Me LIVE (kzread.info/dash/bejne/k5erzdKhl920l5s.html) or Signs of Deliverance LIVE (kzread.info/dash/bejne/oWqjuMh8qtXbeLQ.html) For a guitar clinic with the best duo LIVE. Empty Daydream LIVE (kzread.info/dash/bejne/noycwdeGfZyamrg.html) Asami's bluesy vocals, piano, LIVE backing vocals and the usual guitar clinic and driving bass/drum line. The Awakening/Hammer of Wrath LIVE (kzread.info/dash/bejne/oah-vLKOc9rff7A.html) their song used to warm up the crowd and then the wick Thrash number, the 1st song of their encore session after a full concert. Rising LIVE (kzread.info/dash/bejne/Z4CIj7mhdqrZgKg.html) Shows off the positive lyrics this band brings to metal and why they hope to save metal from darkness. BTW they use the same sound engineers as Nightwish so the quality of their performances are always awesome.

enhancement - key word for their backing tracks. it's used sparingly in the live shows in certain places to give it the epic feel of the recorded versions. piano and some keyboards by miyako on your right and some keyboards by assist writer and musician mao. the cd versions are more synth heavy and a good example is the live version of 'holy war' where it is only used in a spot or two. this is the harder and heavier sound of LOVEBITES. currently the best live band out there :kzread.info/dash/bejne/lJt12tJ-oKjJntI.html

That riff goes back to Richie Blackmores Rainbow and Dio. The clothes are designed to go against metal black ruff style, ie White and formal. And the singer chosen as NOT a screamer or growl style, she is from RnB background as well as trained in ballet, plus 4 of the girls have studied piano, so arrangement skill in the band is immense. btw Lovebites dont have bad songs. : )

Miyako plays the guitar rather well considering she never took lessons! Miyako wrote the music and did the arrangement and Asami, singer, wrote the lyrics. Did you look closely at Miyako's guitar? Named best new Metal Band in 2018, they performed at 2 Metal festivals in Europe and toured with Dragon Force. From Devolution magazine 15 June 2018, Miho interview:We were thinking about how we’d look on stage. We’re pretty petite girls and if we wore black we’d probably disappear into the background! We figured that if we wore white outfits the stage lights would reflect off of them and give us a stronger stage presence. (tallest 5'2", shortest 4'9") For final production, they send their songs to Finland so that the songs are in the European style rather than Japanese. The band is in hiatus now due to Miho, bass, leaving the band due to the death of her Father. So we, the Wolf Pack, are on hold. NEXT Band, Nemophila "Monsters"

I think you should also add "Thunder Vengeance" and "Winds Of Transylvania" to your Lovebites thrashy songs 'react to' list alongside the other three mentioned in the comment section. And yes, avoid Bloodstock festival, the live sound is really terrible. Thank you.

They aren't moving around much, because it wouldn't really fit the song. This is a pretty theatrical performance. But there are plenty of other songs where they are much more animated.

  • @Glynthepin

You will receive many recommendations from the Wolfpack, which is the name of the Lovebites fans. The reason for the lack of animation is the complexity of the song. I would argue that there are only a few bands who could play this song live, even with a backing track. 🙂 To see the Lovebites lady's move around the stage and have a ball, I suggest you react to Raise Some Hell: kzread.info/dash/bejne/rJWhtbN9YK27ds4.html&ab_channel=Dem%C3%B3filoBen%C3%ADtez This and other videos from Lovebites live DVD's, get taken down regularly from KZread, so don't leave it too long before you make a reaction to it.

Nobody asks what the significance is of the torn and ragged black jeans and T-shirts and multiple tattoos and piercing of male metal bands, so why ask the significance of Loveboites' white dresses ? Does dress getermine how music is played ?

Why ask? Because I want to know. I'm learning about a band I've never heard of so I want to know more. It seemed like a polite question to me. What ever happened to their are no bad questions? It's part of learning. Why don't you help me out here and answer the question. I know there is a reason. No, It makes no difference about the music. I wonder the same thing about a lot of groups over the years, espesialy the ones I like. Thanks for being here skoob64. What is the significance of skoob64?

It is a legitimate question when they all dress the same or similar. If a male band all wore the same style outfit or had the same tattoo reactors would likely ask why they did.

Lovebites will change that if you give them a chance. They sound as good or better than 90 percent of male bands. If you like heavy metal, Lovebites is as good as Maiden, Priest, Metallica, and Slayer.

@@ChadTheDragonLord Not likely. Of those heavy metal bands you mentioned I only like Metallica. I don't even listen to Nightwish (even though their music is some of the best out there) because I'm not a fan of Floor. I mainly like current progressive rock/metal nowadays. Opeth, Be'lakor, Leprous, Wheel, Altesia, etc.

How can you give this guy so many thumbs up when first thing, he's complaining about the piano and choirs backing tracks? Didn't Miyako prove she could play, and therefore having recorded the backing track? Do you want a set of chorists on stage just for this song? Man, I pity you.

You didn't hear me correctly, I was not complaining, It was an observation, that's what I do here. I said I don't mind it, especially when they play their instruments live as they did. I also said some of the band I like do it too. If your going to pity me at least listen to the reaction and don't get it twisted Boris. Just because I bring it up doesn't mean I'm criticizing them. Is this the way you respond to everything you don't listen to. You are welcome to be here Boris, just do a better job paying attention in class, right now you have a D-, please do better. Todd

I didn't feel that he was complaining about the backing track. He just stated the obvious that it was used. The use of a backing track can be good or bad. So he went on to say that in the case of Lovebites it was a good thing. There was no criticism. He was quite clear on that.

LOVEBITES is the evolution of all their musical influences into a sound that is neither defined nor confined by genre, gender or nationality. If you want to see more movement, Don't Bite the Dust from their recent concert DVD, Ride for Vengeance, (also it's their first release from 2017) and a song they appear to really enjoy playing. As you make your way through their live songs (if you choose to), you'll find they don't need to be overtly animated to enthrall their audience though.
