(posted also in main thread due to u2b frequent 'disappearing' comments... &:-) Bob, thanks for a very enjoyable and observant 'reaction' to this LOVEBITES song. It is another example of how "arrangement" can take a song that could be a 'typical heart-break ballad' and transforms it into an epic musical experience conveying deep emotion from each member through their instruments. Asami's vocal modulations are impressive, indeed. Your appreciation & descriptions of Haruna's contributions are emphatically welcome by me and 'those with ears to hear' which seem to be increasing in number over these years. Considering your 'ear for Haruna', I suggest the only Haruna composition, music & lyrics, in their catalogue, "Bravehearted" is also the only song ever released by LOVEBITES with Japanese lyrics, though translated to English (with Asami) for first full album. It has become the 'anthem' wherein I find the positivity & empowerment to continue this journey. When I saw Zeppelin in 79, they were famous for 'bringing the thunder'. These ladies bring the thunder, lightning, hurricane winds and a solar storm of sound - especially that superb solo from Miyako after that great drum fill. They are so faultless.

I never tire of watching people gush about these ladies. They are a class act…a class above anything else. My first real exposure to twin guitars was Thin Lizzy in the late 70’s and early 80’s. I fell in love with how melodic that sound is. So when I very first heard and saw LOVEBITES it took literally 30 seconds for them to become my new favourite band, because they take guitar melodies to the next level. In places in this song there are two voices, Asami and M&M. It impossible not to be lifted by the impeccably constructed harmonies.

Wonderful analysis Bob. You picked on all the things I love about this song. Asami at the beginning flexing her R&B background and I would say there are many places in the song where she uses it. The guitar parts are so well written. I’d love to be a fly on the wall during their song writing sessions. The syncopations that happen throughout the song are strategically placed. Fami and Haruna are so locked in together that it’s easy to overlook Fami with everything else going but the subtle things she is doing add to the song. I had a chuckle seeing Haruna twirling the sticks during the fast double kick parts. I made a joke that Haruna thinks, “This is too easy so I’ll twirl my stick also!” 😅😅 I love her playing style. She is one of the most creative drummers in using her cymbals that I have seen in a while.

Thus is a great explanation. I think this is a very accurate explanation from a musical standpoint. (I'm Japanese, so unfortunately I can't understand English well.) I recently listened to “judgement day” and became a big fan. Miyako-san can play not only powerful melodies, but also ones that touch the heart. that's very wonderful. It's a google translation, so sorry if it's weird.

Haruna twirling her drumstick while playing at a 1,000 bpm just shocked and awed me. The first time I saw it, I thought there was a glitch in the "matrix", but when she repeated it, it just made my admiration for Haruna, that 4' 9", nuclear powered dynamo just go even higher. It isn't fair to the rest of the musical groups out there, that one band has such beautiful, incredibly talented and musically gifted women.

Despite the fact that this is one of their older songs from 2017 Fami steps up with ease and kills it, she did it with all of the older material from this concert. This seriously solidifies the perfect pick for the band. Lovebites is a well-oiled machine that never lets off of producing the perfect product for their clietele

The one thing you truly notice is just what a great influence Midori has been on Miyako over the years. Yes, Miyako still oozes emotion but now you can see and hear just how much better her playing is. Miyako maybe the composition genius but Midori and her have played and practiced so much together they have influenced each other while still maintaining polar opposite personalities. Asami continues her stage general assault while her vocals have gotten better as has her annunciation. Haruna, what is there to say, my friend won't except that she is not a perfect android until he sees a full body scan...LOL. Great reaction and breakdown as always. These artists never disappoint and the only thing they can't do is have a poor performance.

When you teach your students do you use some of the japanese bands you react to as reference on how to play instruments or do you predominately use western music as a reference as it would be interesting to see if there is some influence that band teachers use to help their students learn the instruments they play.

I’m teaching elementary kids in grades 4,5 and 6. So occasionally I show them a band like this and some of them are subscribers too. Mostly though if we play something poppy it’s something they are familiar with. I also like to sprinkle in some really hard pieces just to push them and make them reach for it.
