What an absolutely perfect fit Fami is with Lovebites. I love Miho on the bass. She is fantastic. But Fami is at a whole different level. Those bass lines in the chorus are outrageous. And what a great song to return with. I have a feeling this new album is going to punch us very hard in the face!!!

@@TheChampOfMedium Guitar soloes were basically split in 5 parts. Midori+Miyako+Midori2+Miyako2+Together.... NOW.... I recommend you to really focus in on a bassline what Fami does, when Miayko does her 2nd part of the guitar solo(as in phase 4). It is really cool stuff Fami does under that "part 4".

They also dropped some music history on us: The bridge just before the solo section was clearly an intentional wink to Rainbow's "Gates of Babylon" (specifically the part just before the chorus in the Rainbow song), and halfway through Midori's 2nd solo she clearly quotes Malmsteen (one of the only parts that was slow in her solo) only to shred faster than Malmsteen ever hoped to right afterward. This song is their "Painkiller", it seems....

It's hard to talk about perfection. There aren't enough words in the vocabulary to use. Lovebites 2.0 has leveled up across the board. I'm surprised you couldn't notice Fami as much. She was absolutely forward in the mix, and in the solo, she chugged at the speed of the solos. And Asami's voice!!

Not soon after I first heard this song, I found only the 3rd song in 50+ years of listening to metal that I caked my all-time favorite song. First song to be my favorite was "Kashmir" by Led Zeppelin back in 1975. It took 30 years for that song to get replaced, and that was in 2005 when I heard "Ghost of Perdition" by Opeth. 17 years later, "Judgement Day" is it. Best solo section I've ever heard, in large part due to Fami's bass lines.

Yours is one of a tiny handful of reactions that I was hoping for. Love your approach. As everyone has pointed out, it’s definitely worth listening out specifically for Fami because, even as a non musician, I could hear so much. She seems to have been told to just be herself, because I don’t know if you’ve ever seen her channel (Fami) but “herself” is dynamic, original, and innovative in terms of how she can play and how she then edits it. 4 solos, 4 different bass lines, plucked, tapped, tapped, as well as really nice runs behind Asami. As mind blowing as that M&M quadruple is, now I’ve heard what Fami does behind it, I can’t hear anything else. And there is a signature head bob to this tune. You and about 75% of the better reactions all do it. Me, I can’t keep my feet still listening, air pedalling to Haruna. And, (30th Dec) it’s her birthday. Happy birthday Harupi.

So the way it's mixed, all the top end from the bass is cut out, which allows it to be really IN FRONT in the low end.. Mixed like that, it allows the other girls to do whatever they want without burying the bass. Unfortunately, because of that, you don't hear all the slapping and tapping she does, because they just come off as "regular bass notes". But Fami is busy AF in there, and it really adds to the sense of urgency of the song.

  • @athlonen

I think the bigger thing that everyone is missing here is the that there was a slight change of direction - or better yet, inclusion of direction - for the band. For the past 5 years, the band has been primarily 80s power metal/thrash influenced, and that was clear because of Miho's direction and what she wanted from the band. That's what made LOVEBITES stand out. Now with Judgement Day, I'm hearing Yngwie Malmsteen. A particular lick Midori plays in her solo is straight out of the album track of Black Star, off of Yngwie's first album. Some of the harmonization between M&M is similar to what Yngwie does with his keyboardist, and Fami's licks are like what he did when he played bass. It's great that they are doing this and doing it better than him. so the fact that they are adding 80s neoclassical to power metal and thrash, and could even go powercore (bringing in Miyako's Pantera influence) while maintaining the 80s power metal vocals says a lot of what they can do and where they go. And Fami's tapping at the beginning? the tone screams Tool.

I beg to differ about Fami. Try listening to the song again and just listen to Fami and Haruna. Fami is slapping and plucking all through the song! Listen to the solos again. This time don't fall for the flashy items on top and listen to what's going on in the under belly. OMG, they're playing funk riffs under a metal song!!! Haruna is not blasting her kick, she's locked into the bass. She's playing funk on the bottom and metal on the top!! Man, I really suggest you listen again so you can humbly revise your comments about Fami just playing the basic stuff. To the contrary, she's putting on a clinic in various bass styles, "While playing a metal song!!" Absolutely amazing!!!!!!

First thing I noticed about this song. I'm I guitarist myself and I know what to expect from M&M, but the bass lines really popped and added a third dimension that Lovebites didn't really have before, all due respect to Miho. In fact this is the 1000th time I've listen to this song and the bass is what I hear each time. Been following Fami for a couple years and I think she fits Lovebites perfectly.

Since writing the lyrics for all 5 tracks on Glory, Glory To The World, Asami has been working with a Japanese American named Ayako Kawai. She is 30 years old and was born and raised in Maryland. She lived in NYC before moving to Tokyo about 6 years ago. Like Asami, she has a R&B singing background. Besides helping with English lyrics, she offers lessons for Japanese singers in English pronunciation. She works as a background vocalist, a vocalist in commercials and has released her own EP. She was one of the background hooded angels featured at the end of Lovebites' Glory To The World. She assisted Asami in writing the lyrics on the Lonesome_Blue EP and she wrote the lyrics on 3 tracks on the new Lonesome_Blue album. I will not be surprised if she also worked with Asami on the Judgment Day album. I believe that much of Asami's improvement is due to Asami's work with Ayako Kawai.

I wouldn't go so far as to say that this is their 'best' song because "Swan Song," "Frozen Serenade," and "Dystopia Symphony" (among others) are insanely good, but it's probably the most intense. This was Lovebites sending a message! They were telling everyone that they're just as good as they were before the hiatus, if not better. I think they were also saying that Fami can not only fill Miho's shoes, she can add a whole new fulness to their music. Their rhythm section with Haruna and Fami is now one of the best in the business. I think Fami is going to push Haruna to be even better than she already is. This song was not written by Miyako, but she does write the majority of their songs now. I'm very curious about how Miyako utilizes Fami's skills in the songs she composes. I suspect she's going to recognize that she now has another weapon in her arsenal, and will use Fami's talents to make her compositions even better. I can't to hear the new album being released in Feb.

@Eyeosphere00 You will not get an argument from me about your choices. You could have chosen any one of the four as your favorite (as well as about 15 other ones) and I would have said, "Yep! Can't argue with you!" One of the things I love about LBs is that they have a song to fit pretty much whatever mood I'm in at the time. I know that this has been said by others before, but if I'm being honest, my favorite LB song is the one I'm listening to. I'm dying to see what kind of songs Miyako has written for the new album. I think that will tell us a lot about the direction they're heading in. Peace!

@Eyeosphere00 I definitely wouldn't call all their songs masterpieces either and that's only natural. But I do find them impressively consistent and I don't think they have released an outright bad song yet. Even the ones I didn't like as much at first have grown on me. It's certainly not always super innovative, but they simply execute it really well. Hoping to see more and more progressive flourishes and even sharper songwriting from them. I think there is still a good amount of untapped potential. That being said I wouldn't call this my favourite song from them either, at least for now. It's great, but other contenders for that title include Shadowmaker, Puppet on Strings, Golden Destination, The Crusade, Burden of Time, Epilogue or A Frozen Serenade, to name just seven varied choices.

That little murmur of happiness in the solo.. it's Shadowmaker (and some extra hit points) all over again isn't it man? Can't wait for the album. Fami sits beautifully in the fold, not taking anything from Miho, but by bringing bass and percussive rhythm elements to the band somehow seems to have given them a little extra canvas to play with.. I realised that whilst I was trying to listen for the bass, that I was actually hearing it very well mixed throughout the whole thing. Fami brings a lighter rounded bass tone to the outfit, but hats off to the engineering on this - it seems like they're getting it cornered.

Fami came with impressive credentials as a solo artist composer/basist performing in the style of a prog/jazz fusion musician. She adds more lethal punches, unconventional and unique flavors now to Lovebites with her creativity,, expansive dynamics and improvisations. Haruna herself is already a crime investigation subject, let alone the other 3 criminals. Adding Fami to the line up, now both Haruna and Fami are partners in crime. They are so impeccable and spectacularly versatile as professional musicians to the extent that all you need is just provide them with the Bass note sheets of the composition, and they will know how to execute the heist to the best of their abilities Judgement day may be fantastic, but could be second nature for these partners in crime within an organized and structured scheme of the crime. I agree that they have to be harnessed and locked up, or else they will sweep the standing ground positions of other criminals off their spotlights. 🤣🤣🤣

Judgment Day is coming. And you ll have to watch it at least 10 times to figure out what they did here. That solo alone needs like 5-6 times to watch and listen to analyse. Than you must wonder is there really any limit for them? I think not. Fami is a monster on that bass by the way. This is insane. Since i started to listen to the Wolfpack i barely listen to anything else. Its like all other bands are just not good enough. Love them so much. Total metal madness! Imagine how they will play in 10 years if they are so good now. There are famous bands that after 30 years of playing are not as good as they are. That is terrifying...

@Eyeosphere00 Yeah, I was think of Miyu as well, but I don't like to assume over the internet. Also, this is why lists in music are bullshit. What's the point? Where's Kiyoshi, Mina, and Koga? All this "trinity" does is make me think this OP needs to listen to more music.

@Eyeosphere00 Ha, I'm the opposite. I've been subscribed to Mina for a while, but I found Fami (and a few others) right after LOVEBITES announced their audition process. Yeah, I know that lists are meaningless. I guess I've just always found talking about "better" in music to be a waste of time or at least to be grossly-inaccurate terminology. Plus it's usually non-musicians who talk about that kind of thing. Oh well, no biggie.

Sorry to say but the direction they are going is a dead end. Too extensive solo parts will deprive them of new audiences. Solos are the sole of this music but not to exaggeration. Of course, those who fascinate will be delighted as well as those who love the finesse of the game, but this is a rather narrow group of listeners. The new ones will just get bored and think "well, they play really well, they can do a lot, but ....".

I mean, they appeal to a relatively narrow audience already I would say. And this was just the first single of their upcoming album. It's too early to make any definitive conclusions about the direction they are headed in.

@@cepho8349 But you can easily change that. It is enough to create instrumental pieces for each album and present them at concerts, which will satisfy a larger group. This will also allow for a better presentation of the skills of the musicians, because each performs the best.
