Great band, The black haired right guitarist is the main songwriter who is also a classically trained pianist and plays the grand piano you see there, the bassist and drummer are the founders of the band, the vocalist is the one who mainly writes the lyrics. bassist and vocalist also write some songs and sometime collaborate with Mao who is a friend of theirs who was a keyboardist that used to play in another band and he plays some synths you hear in the background.

" M & M " is my favorite guitar duo, Midori ( the blonde ) & Miyako. Miyako is also a world class pianist who along with Mao, composes alot of their music. These women are extremely talented, skillful and versatile exceptional musicians and they really shine in their live performances. Some people say that they are redefining metal or that they are breaking the walls of stereotypes in the metal scene. Their main influences are Iron Maiden, Metallica, Angra, Helloween, and also Judas Priest, Slayer, Deep Purple and even Gary Moore, but they have been developing their unique style. Asami was a R&B, soul, jazz singer before she joined Lovebites. Those twin lead guitar solos by Midori and Miyako are already legendary, in just five years. They performed at Wacken Open Air, Germany, in 2018 and toured the UK with Dragonforce in 2019 (they’re good friends, by the way). Welcome to the best new metal band to come along in decades. In their five years of existence as a band, they set a standard that easily puts them on a par with the greatest bands of metal’s golden age. They have themselves said that part of their mission is to save heavy metal from darkness and obscurity. Some background: They were formed in 2016 from the remnants of a legendary all-girl Japanese metal band called Destrose (yes, all-girl metal has been a thing in Japan since at least 1981). Miho (bass, chief headbanger and soul of the band) had a vision of a new band in the style of the greatest European bands of the golden age of metal. She recruited her former bandmate Haruna (drums, 4'9" “pocket nuclear reactor”); they needed two world-class guitarists, and so they went and found Midori and Miyako, who were with other bands. The whole group then found Asami, the singer, who was doing soul and blues at the time (she also trained in ballet). Miyako has composed most of their music, with Miho composing a lot of their thrashier songs in collaboration with Mao, the lead composer of another band called Lightbringer. Midori has also been getting into the act, and they regularly perform a song written by Haruna as well. Asami writes most of the lyrics. They studied all the great historical metal bands going back to Purple and Sabbath, through Maiden, Priest, Metallica, Helloween, Slayer etc. They toured with Dragonforce in 2019, and word from those in attendance is that next time around, it will be the ladies headlining. They have incorporated some of the best of each of those bands into their arsenal, and have created a sound that is fresh and cutting edge while paying tribute to the old masters. This is one of their usual first songs for reactors, and rightly so--you get a good sense of the band. They do everything from soulful power ballads to heavy thrash. Almost every song includes face-melting solos by Miyako and Midori. The two guitarists are quite different in style and tone. Midori (blonde ponytail) is the extrovert and speed demon; Miyako is the introvert, with the more soulful feel (though she can also shred like a demon). Midori uses a cleaner tone, Miyako uses more distortion, pinch harmonics and pedal effects. The contrast makes their duets rich and dynamic. It doesn’t hurt that either one can smoke most of the shredders in the classic metal bands. As another reviewer said, "It seems criminal these two are allowed to be in the same band." Now you see why they won the award for best new band - those two guitarists are world class, the drummer is relentlessly insane, and the vocalist has such great range and a powerful voice. Plus they all look amazing. You've just gotten started my friend. They have so many songs that will blow you away. Swan song with the Chopin intro is the best song for using the piano. Set the World on Fire has an even more amazing guitar solo duet in it than this song.

That piano was there for Miyako, the dark hair guitarist, who is a world class concert pianist having started piano at age 3. When you react to their performance of "Swan Song with Chopin Intro" you will see her shred the piano with a technically difficult Chopin etude as an introduction to the main song, Swan Song. I love this song, but they have a lot more to offer in terms of composition and more interesting lyrics as well. And it's all performed with immaculate musicianship. Maybe do A Frozen Serenade next. These ladies are super badass. And yeah, they are all rather petite.

I recommend the song "Edge of the world" from LOVEVITES. It's a really great song.

My random thoughts . . . On the quick tapping parts, Midori, Miyako, and Miho are all doing it all three times. The only thing that changes is who the main camera focuses on. One of the things that likely helps Emppu get lower in his stance is that he's a longtime martial artist. That said, I think LOVEBITES is the shortest band I listen to with Babymetal (not including the Kami Band) right behind them. Aside from the little transition lead at 5:16, the three Ms are playing in unison up until the solos and then resume afterwards. I love the freight train sound of this song. As far as gear goes, Midori, the blonde guitarist, is playing an ESP E-II Horizon FR. She uses a Kemper amp, I believe it's a Power Rack, and a Marshall cab. Miho, the bass guitarist who shockingly left the band in 2021 for undisclosed reasons, plays an ESP Amaze through a Darkglass Electronics Microtubes 900 amp and DG201C and DG401C cabs. Miyako, the brunette guitarist, is playing a Dean USA Icon through an Orange cab and a Peavey 6505+ amp. Each lady obviously has a pedalboard, but the only thing I can remember about those is that Miyako uses a John Petrucci Dunlop wah. Lastly, Haruna uses Pearl drums and Sabian cymbals. Thanks for reacting to LOVEBITES! There's a lot of variety in their songs from ballads to hard rock to various subgenres of metal. I've been listening to them for a year and a half and they have yet to get old.

They say that white dresses is because make a better contrast on black stages, so is easy to see them. But they are not the first to play heavy metal in "cute dress". Another band do the same, an "old" one called Aldious. Founded in 2008, they perform also in cute night dress, but different colors. The most flashy, one of the guitars called "Toki" goes in pink dress, big blonde hair, a tiara and big pink boots. Oh... also pink guitar. Check someday something from them. Great review!! Holy War and Swan Song are from the same album Five of a Kind 2020 released, but Set the World on Fire is from Heavy Metal Never Dies of 2021. They are about 150cm tall, the high tower of the band is Miyako the dark haired guitarist on the stage left is about 165cm only, and the mighty brutal drummer Haruna is only 146cm. Haruna's got double bass drums but one is just for show though she wanted to kick both bass drums but she is so small then could not to reach both, but her double kick still is the world best class though. She does it for all through the show which lasts about two hours each. All those picks on the mic stand for Miyako are mostly for the fans when they end the show, they will throw the picks into the audience. She does not lose her pick much at all during her sets.

These three songs are great, but probably do not make my top three songs for Lovebites. Shadowmaker 2021 live is one of my favorites along with their live version of Break the Wall.

If you want to see an amazing guitarist, check out Galneryus. Syu is by far the best guitarist in Japan, & easily one of the best in the world, & their vocalist Masatoshi Ono is likely the best male singer in Japan. Preferably start with the live versions of "Angel Of Salvation", "Force Of Courage", "Brutal Spiral Of Emotion", & "Ultimate Sacrifice". These are all pretty long songs, each over 10 minutes long, so if you want something shorter to start with, go with "Raise My Sword"

Let me introduce you Lovebites: Haruna (drummer), Miho (bass), Midori (ponytail, guitar), Miyako (black hair, guitar) and Asami (vocal). Miho (bass) is a leader and form this band with Haruna on 2016, but Miho left the band on August 17, 2021. When you mention a piano, actually Miyako also can play piano, no other members or guest.

Ok, that remark about five girls in wedding dresses was dumb! If you look at them, what they’re wearing looks nothing like a wedding dress! The lead singer used to be a ballerina and her dress reminds one of that. The others look like they’re wearing Greek goddess sort of dresses.
