LoveBites - Break the Wall - OF COURSE this is Thrash! A Metalhead Reacts

So, time for round 2 with LoveBites. The song that I previously listened to, Holy War, showed TONS of technical proficiency. Will this one be more of the same or something with a bit more feeling and soul. We'll see. Come on in and see what I thought of this one. Please enjoy my latest video, LoveBites - Break the Wall - OF COURSE this is Thrash! A Metalhead Reacts.

I LOVE their outfits, it is new and refreshing and completely unique to the heavy metal scene. I have grown tired of the bands who wear black and have tattoos. Lovebites visual aesthetics adds to their appeal. Beautiful and elegant ladies who melt your face off, what's not to love.

Lovebites has a unique way of blending thrash metal, power metal, and speed metal into almost all of their songs. That's why I love them so much and their sound, although similar to the 80s and 90s, is a modern and refreshing sound, not old fashioned, just fine tuned to be even better than it used to be.

This is one that Kerry King would be proud of and just vreak into a quiet smirk🤘....the dresses? I love the juxtaposition of it all, the underlying fact that what we hear and what we see just doesn't go together, but only in our preconceived notions. It emphasizes the true folly of life🙏

the white garb was purposely decided on by the band for 2 reasons - one was the fact that they are small women - the tallest is miyako the dark haired guitarist at 5 ft. 2 in. - the drummer haruna is 4 ft. 9 in. - so they would be visible with a dark background. and they did not want to look like every other metal band with black leather , tattoos and facial hardware. so they stand apart from the rest. take a look at midori - the guitarist with the blonde ponytail and tell me that her fringed short dress does not scream rock star. she is a very sexy lady. they all have their own style and are classy. as well as being beasts on their respective instruments

From France: I discovered rock during the 60s and, at the end of these and at the beginning of the 70s, the beginnings of hard rock (with bands like Deep Purple or Uriah Heep and others). Then heavy, then metal, then speed, trash... what else do I know? In short, music that cleans the ears. I admit that over the past 20 or 25 years, I was getting bored with the lack of changes in this music and especially the lower level of the groups (older or more recent). But there, with Lovebites, finally I find the freshness of this music and it is played with so much talent, feeling that for 3 years I fell with both feet in the Wolfpack... And in the assumed adolescence... And that reconciles me with this music and these atmospheres of crowds... Enjoy old Chap! Enjoy old Chap !]

The outfit thing. It has probably already been said in the comments, but when they founded they decided that they would show that metal can be positive, and still melt your face. As such, they made a conscious decision to not wear black, and leather and all that. You'll only ever see them in white dresses, signing positive lyrics, and bringing it hard. It's just their thing. I think it is pretty amazing, honestly. They're of course also going against the stereotype that metal is mostly a male dominated genre. They're amazing.

Bassist Miho wrote the foundation for “Break The Wall” while Miyako added color to the composition. Miyako wrote the guitar solo in the middle with Gary Moore in mind whom she identifies with the blues guitar sound. Drummer Haruna called it their most aggressive song to date.

LOVEBITES "breaks the wall " of stereotypes about what metal bands should look like. High-quality heavy music can be created by a band consisting of ladies in white dresses who have abandoned black clothes, rivets, chains, tattoos, etc. Many people call them GODDESSES. LOVEBITES look like GODDESSES, play like GODDESSES, LOVEBITES became GODDESSES when they received the prestigious Metal Hammer GOLDEN GODS Award for Best New Band (2018, London, UK).

Lovebites is more Thrash Metal than anything we have seen in 30 years, with the possible exception of Trivium. Even then they are simply outclassed in the talent department by these ladies. They have combined all of the best of thrash and power metal over the last 40 years with a level of virtuosic musicianship that no one can touch in current year music. Any band would be made better by having someone at any position with as much talent as this one does at EVERY position. It isn't fair that Lovebites has so much of it on stage at once. I posit that this is the single greatest accumulation of musical talent and technical perfection that exists in a 5-piece band anywhere on earth. In a class all their own.

  • @NewAeonWarlord

I agree: This song is absolutely Thrash. "Holy War" however, to me, is straight up Powermetal. Lovebites play stuff in a few genres from Thrash, to Powermetal, to Hardrock for some songs. I guess that's what a lot of people meant on your previous reaction. "Holy War" isn't exactly their most thrashy song. The outfits? I think they're cool. It's something that makes them stand out from the bunch and they absolutely have the skills to back that up.

In an interview back in 2018, Miyako (black haired guitatist) said " “I just want to play what I want to play. If there’s a message I have for girls wanting to be in a band, I would say that you don’t have to drop your femininity and be as macho as a guy, and you don’t have to dress up and be pretty and cute. Just do what you want to do. We're not here to be cute, we're here to be heavy".

And dress cute... Lets be real here. These ladies are dressed to "the nines", wearing jewelry and have on high heels. Anyone who thinks that this is not women trying to look cute is not looking at this through honest glasses. There's nothing wrong with what they are trying to do here. But, to say that they aren't trying to be cute is a bit ridiculous. This is a great band of ladies who play face melting metal music at an extremely high level..... and look cute. That's simply how it is. For this to NOT be true, that would mean that they are trying to NOT look cute, and that's obviously not the case. Keep it real.

PE - The Dresses?? - They are a Statement: These are women who consider themselves the Lone Wolves of Metal - an all Female Metal band, committed to putting their own flavor on the Old-School Metal of the 80's and 90's. They have said they see NO reason why they should have to give up their Femininity to blow your face off. Also, there are NO true Wolves (Lovebites fanbase is the Wolfpack - for obvious reasons) who aren't aware that this band plays A LOT of Thrash. But the Net is full of whiners who love to complain - just ignore them, give credit to Lovebites for being totally Bad Ass, and enjoy their music. 🤘🐺🤘

But there's 2 metal bands I love! Mettalica and Love Bites! As for the way they dress John? They consider themselves a Metal Symphonic orchestra. I've literally seen shows where the audience sits quietly and listens. All dressed to the 9s. A night at the opera. Then when the song ends they applaud. My girl Gasshan Crash Blue Angel is the favorite to be the new Bass player. They remind me of Iron Maiden. But Megadeth is a fair comparison. If Megadeth looked that good in evening wear they would've wore it! LoL! Take care brother!😎🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘✌️❤️‍🔥

"I don't get the outfits..." - In part, that's kind of why they wear what they wear. Honestly I didn't quite get it myself at first...not in a negative way, but I was like...there has to be a reason, right? Then I watched a few interviews of theirs where they explained why they do wear what they wear, which has evolved a bit over the years as well. And it all made sense to me. Obviously, as with most things, not everyone will like it or agree with it, and that's ok. But it's something they very much believed in doing for their overall image/aesthetic, so I can respect that. It's their choice and they have their reasons, type thing, instead of it being forced on them, if that makes sense. And ya...sometimes people get annoyed by labeling of songs. Not necessarily with a lot of Lovebites fans, but they are there. Personally, I don't see why it matters much if someone specifics them as thrash versus speed metal or as Lovebites themselves say heavy metal. Most of their songs aren't one specific thing anyways. But what can you do, there will always be people who get upset by something. Lovebites list influences of many bands that are either thrash, speed, heavy, rock, etc. They do it all. Call it thrash all you want, because to some degree, it probably is, or influenced by it.

In your mind you are getting "Does not compute! Does Not Compute! Does not Compute." We grew up in the western box of metal music. Lovebites asks you to step out of that box. The challenge is, can you do it? The idea of the outfits is multiple reasons. One is they are all small ladies so white on stage is more visible. Second, it elicits a reaction of contrast between the music and the look of the band. Third, they exude a classy and classical look. Fourth, as Miyako said, they wanted to play heavy metal just like the guys but keep their femininity and the outfits help them do that. Fifth, "It proves," as one KZread reactor's daughter said, "Even Princesses can play heavy metal." So your reaction is quite normal. No one should have a problem with your reaction. Lovebites would just say, "Gotcha!" Holy War is a bit more Power Metal while this song and Thunder Vengeance are Thrash. They have power metal ballads, rhythm and blues grooves, melodic speed metal and more. All of this is played at the tempo of Haruna, their drummer. This song reminds me of Slayer. The one thing they don't do is growls. That isn't Asami's bag as a singer. As long as you are appreciating the talent and the music then it's all good.

Never said it dimishes the music. I said it distracts the viewet. I'm a viewer and it clearly distracted me. Clothes don't diminish music.

They wear white because it's a brand. In the Japanese metal scene outfits play a large role, and none of them are typically traditional black and leather. Bands try to trump each other in the craziness of their outfits to stand out. I like what Lovebites has done here: they took a step back from the craziness and opted for something that was a) very recognizable and b) classically elegant. Or see it like this: 1) Why would metal have to be identified with the black leather look? 2) As Midori (blonde guitarist) said: "We're sophisticated women first of all." So they stay true to themselves when they hit the stage like that: a bunch of cultured, elegant young women who like to play metal. Since metal is for everyone who likes it (wouldn't you agree?), they can choose to do what they want and to not bow to convention. I mean, if we were to restrict metal to the original demographic, we would get a bunch of sixty year old misfits in denim vests with a beer belly, and metal would be dead in twenty years with the last of them.

That's a stretch. Metal won't be dead in twenty years, nobody needs to see ANBODY with a beer belly in a denim vest, and everyone everywhere in any walk of life should wear whaever they choose. This is MY reaction to this group of ladies wearing something extremely unconventional. Period. It isn't any more or any less than that.

Yes, definitely a thrash song and not at all a trash song lol! I disagree with you about the outfits cuz to me at least their talent overshadows anything they are wearing, but also having a metal band made up of women that dress like elegant princesses gives them a distinct look. I feel like them wearing white symbolizes how optimistic and hopeful their lyrics and messages are as well.
