Played a gig once at a country wedding in Somerset England. A kid around 10 years old was mesmerised by the kit and the whole band thing. He sat on a bale of hay throughout three sets and i rewarded him with a blast around the kit at the close and gave him a new set of sticks. He was ecstatic. His old man asked me what i thought. I said "Get him a kit. He's inspired and has a hunger" I don't care about the fee so much as encouraging new drummers. 😊

This reminds me of a singer/guitar player that I played w/ that used to lie about how much the band made & he'd also grab the tip jar & take the tip jar into the bathroom after last note of the night to "count the money." Real piece of work this guy was. If I booked a job & was the one collecting the money, I always invited one of the other members, if not the entire band, to go up w/ me to witness the amount collected. After a while they'd say naw, we trust you.

Id never expect it from the public but a few gigs back i was playing duo with a singer song writer. A member nof the public approached the singer and gifted money. It was clearly intended for the singer and I never got a share myself grom it either. I didnt fomplain though amd understood it as the choice of the public to treat whomever with whatever as they wished. That said though, I know had it been gifted to me oike this drummer here it would have been brought up by the artist after the gig and pooled with the singer. Never mind my scenario though, I like that this gentleman generously gave tribute to the drummer and no matter what the drummer earns on any night any sign from the oublic like this is welcome. From a penny to paper cash. Musicians can always do with life funds haha

The way the wife made sure he tipped is great. She wanted to make sure the drummer knew she was appreciated.

He was so nice, "you're not using this one" and then he even made sure it wouldn't fly off.
