"LOVE, The Philippines" a New Campaign Tourism Ad 2023 - Removed from the DOT's Official FB Page
DOT's Controversial Ad Tourism Campaign 2023 Removed From Official FB page.
Netizens were quick to express their disapproval of the campaign just 2 days after its debut, claiming that it includes stock footage that does not represent actual scenes from the Philippines.
DDB Philippines is the agency responsible for creating the ad campaign.

DDB Group Philippines, the company behind "Love the Philippines" apologizes for using stock footage of Thailand, Indonesia, and Dubai in a video presentation.
The AVP was "intended to be a mood video to excite internal stakeholders about the campaign."
DDB: While the use of stock footage in mood videos is standard practice in the industry, the use of foreign stock footage was an unfortunate oversight on our agency’s part. Proper screening and approval processes should have been strictly followed.
DDB: It is important to note that the AVP was produced by DDB Philippines at its own expense, and no public funds were released or would be released, to fund the video. This was a DDB initiative to help pitch the slogan. | via Ralf Rivas/Rappler

there are sand dunes in illocos norte (northern philippines) and rice terraces in sagada (cordilliera administrative reigon)
No need for expensive ads. Gawin lang free from corruption ang Pinas, gawin lang nang maayos ng kapulisan ang kanilang tungkulin, panatilihing malinis ang kapaligiran at maging ma- respeto ang mga Pilipino sa kababayan at dayuhan yan ang kailangan. Tourists will hesitate to visit, let alone love, a place where corruption and injustices prevail kahit gaano pa kaganda.

You're definitely right! A friend who visited the Philippines took pity at the sight of poor people begging on the streets, young girls hooking up with foreign elderly men for money, white sand beaches whose island residents lack access to potable water and reliable electricity, and the solid waste management problem. When visitors come to experience our place, they also see up-close the glaring poverty and the social inequities.

This is a disgrace for the Philippines
No matter how fancy the ads or slogan our tourist numbers will never match that of our neighbors if our airport is as chaotic as ever, if tourist infrastructures are poor, if hotel rates are pricey, if tourists are scammed in taxis and tourist sites, if our food and shopping scene are not that exciting

In all the countries I visited around the world, there were scammers, over-priced tourist facilities and chaotic situations. I have quickly learned to embrace discomforts as part of a genuine experience and to consider monetary losses as tough luck and simply hoping the extra cash goes to someone who scammed me in order to provide for their family rather than to get rich fast. Many people tend to focus on the negative side of their own country, but I am sure the Philippines have plenty of amazing cultural and natural aspects to discover, and I would visit them gladly. This agency's blunder made me chuckle, though.

In my opinion, your country is so beautiful almost similar as my country Indonesia. I've been to the Philippines quite often for business trip and vacation. Love Palawan and Boracay. The beauty of your country is many and why the agency didn't expose all of the beauty in the Philippines? Was there any disclaimer when DOT took this online? There is no disclaimer about the use of foreign stock footage. If these was a disclaimer it would have been fine. As foreign and stock footage in tourism adds aren’t new in advertising. I find it odd that the text captions in this video are off center. Not until the LOVE Philippines and DOT graphic was shown. This looks like a proof of concept video.

i had doubts about the video when i first saw it… DDB is so stupid to just copy paste destinations from other ou tires when in fact, it was used already in the launch in the DOT national campaign. DOT also failed to identify its own destinations and did not exercise due diligence before they loaded it on their FB pages and shared massively in various social media platform. I am very disappointed☹️
