I sooo agree with everything you said about not being allowed to have a personality anymore these days, definitely not in corporate environments. Lately I have been having those exact feelings : like we're not allowed to exist anymore. I must say I do feel a change in the air though, because it can't be like that forever. I would love to know what you thought about it. I have the 100 ml vintage version and the 30 ml vintage but I'm running low. I never receive acknowledgement of my fragrance UNLESS I'm wearing Lou Lou (vintage)! If you see this, please share your thoughts 🙃

You know, if you haven't read it yet, I think you'd really enjoy reading Oscar Wilde's 'Critic as Artist'. You can find free online versions pretty easily. But he talks about how art criticism itself produces works of art. Just from what I've seen of your work, I get the sense that there's some great harmony between what he wrote and what you do as a youtuber.

I've been wearing OG Loulou since '89. I've learned how to spot the OG and buy it off ebay. I have a little collection going lol. I am glad they're still making it, however I feel the new one had its guts removed in a way, it's commitment. A daring maybe. I feel the new one smells like honeysuckle perfume that reminds me a lot of Loulou. Unfortunately with them being so old, some smell amazing still, some smell of alcohol and some like an old lady's rose perfume! I'm willing to roll the dice and buy them anyhow. I even found 5 tiny sample packs with the lady on the cardboard card. My testers I bought have a huge bottle with a white box. They are amazing still. Even those boxes have the gorgeous red inside. I mean, with something so iconic and had such a following, it's a shame they did her like that. I feel they've cheapened it. I am still so thankful tho to still be wearing her!

Memories, memories... I used to wear Lou Lou when I was 19. GREAT review.

The reformulation is different but so beautiful in its own way. Very rarely accomplished. Not as strong or longlasting but its more smokey, thinner (but still fairly strong for today's standards), possibly more plasticky Barbie Doll like smelling. It's great. I love both

It definitely is a great and rare example of a very well made reformulation.

I love you for loving Lou Lou! And this is such a helpful review. I first started wearing Lou Lou in high school in 1987 - I couldn't wait to buy my first bottle. I agree that it's a niche perfume - even back in its heyday it was. The best part of Lou Lou is hours after it has been applied when the vanilla takes over and it becomes the most sexy scent on the planet. I haven't had the new formulation long enough to decide if it has kept that aspect, but I do think that I will be able to wear the new formulation much more often than I reach for the vintage, because I am aware of how strong the original Lou Lou is, and you're right - society today is not disposed to the original Lou Lou. 😉 (P.S. - I'm so glad you mentioned that about letting bottles age a bit before judging because I have noticed that especially with Lou Lou. After I used up my first bottle, I bought a few abroad in the 90s, and when I went to put them on, it was like a totally different perfume. The top notes were sooooooooo strong that I thought it had been reformulated.)

I know Lou Lou by my mother, when I was a child. It smelled like the pure charm of a french woman to me. I still love it, too ❤

Oh, Lou Lou! I purchased her after finishing my bottle of Poison (my very first designer fragrance) when I was 14 in 1988. I have vintage versions now - the bottle with a stopper, the spray and also the original pure parfum! I don't wear her often but I still love her so. I have yet to smell the reformulation, but now I'm very curious!

Wow! You have such a beautiful energy 🤩 Yesterday I ordered LouLou and Eden. The first LouLou I had in 1987; a x-mas present. I thought it was such a heavy scent. Waiting for this new one now.

My first ever perfume in the late 80s,there was always a loulou trail following me in school...it was a bomb...the reformulation just didn't have that potency for me although nice,it was missing something...I have the vintage which I always wear.

P.S. I didn't mean that I mix my perfumes...only that I can wear Loulou here and there to save on my Chanels...I really like it too. It is less serious than the Chanels 5 and 19

I bought some Loulou based on your review of this fragrance. I appreciate what you said here about giving it time for it to oxygenate and grow on you. I wasnt sure if I liked it at first but I just keep spraying it on and it is quickly becoming very pleasing to me. I wanted a good alternative, less expensive fragrance that could stretch out the longevity of my chanel 5 and 19. This might just be it. Im in my 60's and remember the 80's well. This fragrance does give one a nostalgia or taste of what it was like without having to go back to what was a lot of tacky shit . LOL You are right...it is a unique type of scent for that reason. Wouldnt have ever tried it without your expert guidance and truly unique blend of perfume knowledge and your very literate ability to translate your wisdom to us. Love you!

L'Oreal doesn't hire great perfumers. I wouldn't trust them with any reformulations. They only care about the coin!

I can't decide myself over which is better : your original story or the parfum. I first discovered Lou Lou in 1990 when a kindergarden schoolmate's mother donated a finished bottle to the costumes play room of the kindergarden. Even if it was an empty bottle the whole kindergarden smelled lou lou like for an entire year. The bottle is in my favourite color and just yesterday i found ot it was launched the year i was born. Do you think a parfumer can recreate the vintage formula? Lou Lou vintage formula is my best along with Sun by Jil Sander

Mmmmmmmmm!!! Love Loulou! And it totally has a violet aspect! It is reminiscent of the beautiful Guerlain Apres L'Ondee...

Today, I wore a black pocket v-neck tshirt, black skinny jeans with heels and a blush colored summer jacket to work (7/5/23 but it's cold in the office). I applied three spritzes of my Lou Lou (the modern version) and felt like a million bucks! I know for a *fact* that people notice my fragrance even if they don't share a comment (and admittedly, some may even dislike it) 🤷🏽 I was introduced to Lou Lou in the 80's when my friend was dead broke, studying for the Bar and wanted to treat herself ~ Lou Lou was her splurge and I fell in love with it! I wear St. Laurent's Rive Gauche, as well, but Lou Lou owns my heart ❤️💅💫✨💜

Has anyone tried Lou lou voile de parfum. If so is it worth getting? How is the longevity or does it sit close to the skin?

This was my first ever "grown up" perfume. I was 12. A life ago o.O 30+ years ago yikes. Anyhow. My sister bought it but for her was stomach flipping sweet so she gave it to me. I loved it. As a kid to me this nauseating strong sweet pungent smell was divine. What was i thinking LOL for once the watering down of perfumes of today's trends was a good thing... now is YUMMY I am still a heavy hitter though.. my fave stay Casmir by Chopard, Gold lid Paris YSL EDP, Samsara by Guerlain, Angel by Mugler uhmm what I am forgetting ... ohhh Boucheron by Boucheron original EDP I kinda sorta liked Obsession but made me sneeze so i had give that one up...

The re release ( 2011) I missed it!! They had these cute bottles totally different from the original… like a longer cylindrical type or floral bottle? I wonder if they smelled the same

i wish i had cauch the live :( Loulou is one of the loves of my life!i have all the bottle sizes (+splash)and both formulation! she is so good and i do agree that new is slightly better

Hello, I love your knowledge and passion about the subject. Lou Lou had been my signature scent for many years until lately. The problem is that, in the last few years, I've bought it in a couple of online places and it smelled like nothing, nothing at all!!! Then I bought it at a duty free shop at the airport in Paris thinking it would be "original" and had the same problem; it's still unused in the box. Am I just buying "fake" perfumes? Does Cacharel still make LouLou? I realize the original scent is gone but is there a place where I can buy a genuine one, even if it's the new formulation? Please help, I'm not wearing a perfume right now. If it's discontinued, can you recommend something similar? Thank you kindly,

I’ve never heard of LouLou ever being faked. It has been reformulated over the years, I’d say at least 2-3 times (perhaps more…) and the current formula is not like the original unfortunately. It certainly still has the LouLou DNA but to me anyway, it’s not like the original. I sold my new bottle and managed to find some of the vintage. It’s not discontinued, but as an alternative, try Guerlain L’Heure Bleue as it shares some similarities in that they both have anise and heliotrope. They are both absolutely beautiful. You can also try searching for a vintage Cosmair bottle of LouLou that was pre-reformulations. The older boxes have a line (cartouche) that goes around the word Cacharel. The newer boxes don’t have that line. 😊

Thank you for your wonderful tips on the vintage vs new bottles. I cannot wait to get the 50ml vintage formulation which is coming my way. I am so happy. I've had a tiny 5ml splash bottle for years now and always wanted the full bottle but the prices were ridiculous. Finally came across a good one. 😍 The burgundy red of the stopper reminds me a bit of the Chanel bag interior. Such icons. Also, the 80s remind me of calm times, although yes, everyone was smoking everywhere, the lack of access to media as it is now made the times more digestible. If you compare that red color to the flesh plus thinking that Lou Lou was ahead of our times then ya have it...too much of everything now. 😶‍🌫I just want to hide away , smelling Lou Lou and thinking of the 80s and the 90s - my favorite eras of growing up and childhood. It’s funny how different I am now and thought I have a great memory of this perfume? I’m not in the mood for super strong anymore so the reformulation may actually be better? I always preferred the poison over the Lou Lou ( my ex at that time loved this scent me I smelled licorice?? So i didn’t wear all the time) but to me the poison was softer not as dry? So this reform sounds good but boy do I have issues with Loreal!! Grr 😖 and the other scents they touched

Anyone layered Lou Lou with another perfume to make it more modern ? Layering with Alien by Mugler makes it even more alien. Any other suggestions ?

I never recommend buying perfumes blind Gary. Cuz you never know ahead of time if you like a perfume so it is risky to spend the money on something you might end up not liking...

@Anja the anarchist. i LOVEEEEEE churchy type scents, Byredo Bibliotheque is one of my loves for that type of feeling. I never hear anyone mention church as a scent but that smell of walking into a Catholic church (when i was young, and because it is the only religious type of building i've been in-maybe they all smell that way) brings me back to memories with my late grandfather (papa) who i idolized =) i'll take any of your "church" scents next time. LOL I love the cinnamon scents too, Mac Velvet Teddy-sooooo good! xoxo
