How fucking surreal to go back to your home that's the only one left on the block. Way worse to have to completely rebuild, way, way worse, but just sort of surreal in the "why not me?" sense to be the only neighbor left standing

I think wood houses are going to be a thing of the past. If we can NOT stop climate change we must learn to adapt. I see fire, wind, water proof dome shape structures becoming a thing in next 20 years.

So scary. Anyone who says she shouldn’t be panicking is clueless about what she was driving through and coping with. She is literally looking at death in the face.

Dang. Stumbled upon this video… My sisters home was 8 houses up from this woman’s. Yeah… every single house in the neighborhood burnt to the ground except for the one next to this lady’s.

This looks similar to the decades ago California Oakland Tunnel (East Bay Area Fire Footage). Which brings me to making this point: 1. FIRE PROOF YOUR HOUSING AREAS!!! Those Oakland Tunnel houses burned down because the fire trucks couldn’t reach them (there were no fire hydrants at that time in that community-houses on a hill/cliff area). 2. Look at how Brown and Dry Denver is. So Fire Proof your house. Each house should be required to have their own (water tank) in the back yard, that’s connected to a fire extinguishing system, to include pop-up water sprinklers in the yard, inside/outside of house and roof tops. 3. Also build barriers around the house, a diameter of dirt/gravel that prevents fires from getting to the house from the ground. 4. There’s fireproof house paint etc too. Build houses with steel frames, and “Fire Walls”. Build houses with a major portion underground. I hope you recover!!

I know this fire was moving exceptionally fast because of the high winds, but like others, I wonder how long the smoke was visible beforehand for many people. How many ignored it till it was almost too late?

Yea, the communication was so bad. The second that I happened (completely by chance) to check the news and saw a headline that there were fires north and south of Boulder, not only did Xfinity go out, but I couldn't access the Boulder OEM app or the web via Verizon on my cell. Not at all surprising that she had no idea the fire was right behind her house.

I agree, the Paradise fire in California was ten times worse than this with fire on all sides of the road and black out conditions.

Where were the warnings? None at that time. Not knowing where you live, let me tell you about that area. I lived in that town until last year and they were having epic winds of 100+ MPH at the time. Boulder, Louisville and the surrounding areas frequently get winds of 50+ MPH and sometimes top 100 MPH due to the way the towns are situated close to the mountains. I was watching this as it happened and with the winds as high as they were, the fire was coving a football field length in a matter of seconds. The grasses and trees out here are beyond bone-dry. The spot where the fire is presumed to have started to Louisville, Colorado is only 3.5 to 4 miles. When this much dry fuel is around and a wind is blowing at hurricane speeds, you can pretty much figure out it won't take long to cover that distance. The other factor is, once the hot embers start flying in the wind, they can move faster than the fire on the ground is covering. This happened so fast, many in town were only able to get out with the clothes on their backs.

@@sk8charmer no problem. I find that many folks commenting on this don't know what the weather is like in this area. I lived in that town for 29 years and another 21 years before that in an unincorporated area about 7 miles from Louisville. I'm quite familiar with the weather in this area and it CAN get really weird some years. Some days you get no breeze at all and then others you can get those that rip through sounding like a freight train is right outside the house. I've seen it blow down fences and trees. The worst times are when you have snow on the ground and get 50 to 80 MPH winds come blowing through and you get white-out conditions when driving. I know that woman was freaking out because of the fire, but with winds that high, she was better off following that trash truck. I've had to do the same thing driving in the Winter with ground blizzards. You learn to follow the State snow plows...it's the safest place to be.

Strange that the trees standing around these houses are not burned...

Reminded me of the fires in California. Houses burnt down to the foundations and trees not burnt, plastic garbage cans intact, etc...very strange indeed!

She’s so “panicked” she had time and effort to video her “escape”….had she driven two houses over, she’d have been fine…those houses didn’t burn a lick

most time in fires smoke kills before flame. Having everything burning around you, you would still die from smoke inhalation.

She was trying to get everyone to speed up and get out of her way, but once she got clear of traffic she just stopped out in the middle of an intersection, but I'm glad she made it, I could feel her pain.

I live 15 min away from where the fires stop and I can say I feel really really bad for everyone who lost something In those fires.

It's not, the fires put contaminants into the air, especially if buildings have asbestos in them. Try breathing through a straw while running, you will know how hard it is for people with breathing problems like asthma and other breathing conditions.

This is sad. Panic does not make traffic move faster.

Why the hell is the waste management services still taking its time collecting trash when a trail of vehicles are trying to evacuate past him. 0:42 Its like that guy is in another world at that moment. shock maybe only thing i can think of.

If you look at the the video again, there was one bin that was previously picked up (lid was flipped back) and the second one where she was recording from wasn't picked up (lid still on top of bin). I would think he didn't see the flames until that last house and then started to move out of the neighborhood. We've had a weird year in Colorado and saw a lot of smoke from the wildfires in California (and other States) that made the air pretty smokey. I wouldn't presume that the driver was "in another world" unless you get to talk to the driver. Don't make assumptions.
