Louis XIV's Mistresses

Please consider supporting me at / lindsayholiday
Louis XIV, King of France from 1638 to 1715, ruled over the court at Versailles with the sheer magnetism of his personality. All were desperate to be in the light of the sun king. His image was paramount to maintaining his place at the center of the Universe. The 5’4” monarch wore high heels and voluminous wigs. And he made sure the world knew he was a virile man with plenty of mistresses. While at least 20 women came and went from his majesty’s bed, he was emotionally devoted to 3 women in succession; Louise de La Vallière, Madame de Montespan and finally Madame de Maintenon whom he secretly married after the death of his Queen. Let’s meet the mistresses of King Louis XIV:
Catherine Bellier, Baroness de Beauvais
Marie Mancini, Duchess & Princess of Paliano
Louise de La Vallière, Duchess of La Vallière & Vaujours
Olympia Mancini, Countess of Soissons
Bonne de Pons d’Heudicourt, Marquise d’Heudicourt
Catherine Charlotte de Gramont, Princess of Monaco
Gabrielle de Rochechouart de Mortemart, Marquise of Thianges
Françoise-Athénaïs de Rochechouart, Marquise de Montespan
Anne de Rohan-Chabot, Princess of Soubise
Isabelle de Ludres, Marquess of Ludres
Claude de Vin des Œillets
Marie Angélique de Scorailles, Duchess of Fontanges
Françoise d’Aubigné, Marquise de Maintenon

No exactly trust them with a fifty foot pole but keep them close at the sane time. No one would want me around because I knew everything but no one could get rid of me either-- regardless if I was his favorite or not. I'd be the Lady Of Smugness 😂😂😂

Not really the case. The House of Bourbon was far from incestuous, all things considered. The Habsburgs model did not apply in France. Obviously, there were a few first and second cousins marriages here and there (before Louis XIV), but plenty of marriages with foreign princesses and princes to help renew the DNA. The Bourbon branch looks pretty healthy, as far as royal trees go.

The Bourbons didn't marry between uncles and nieces. I obviously didn't say that their line was a perfectly healthy one; just that as far as royal lines went, they were pretty okay. Things get a bit more iffy as time goes by, but Anne of Austria was the first Habsburg to join the royal Bourbon family at that point. N.B: It is highly amusing to see a Targaryen discussing incestuous family trees, though. It's good to see experts being brought in.

Louise did the right thing by leaving, scorning Montespan for her arrogant belief that Louise was so weak as to not want to leave so Montespan could continue to abuse and bully her. If anything, Montespan should have looked to Louise as a warning to what would eventually happen to her, but she didn't. Louise certainly didn't do anything wrong, and she showed it by living her life as best she could even when she was dogged by guilt. She certainly lived a better life then Montespan by not making any enemies in court outside of simply being the mistress. She caused no scandals. All she wanted was Louis' love, but knew well enough to not cause trouble, even showing her regret towards the Queen.

Established Titles is an iffy sponsorship. They've apparently told KZreadrs the title Lord/Lady can be used on official documents when it cannot. It's the same as the "buying and naming a star after yourself" thing. No official entity would ever recognize it haha. Not to mention I've heard they're disliked by the locals in Scotland, can't remember why, I'd have to look it back up Some quotes I found interesting after looking up this company and a very similar one named Highland Titles, which works pretty much identically to Established Titles "The environment sector in Scotland generally does not hold a high opinion of the work carried out by Highland Titles,” an anonymous source at a major Scottish NGO tells Euronews Green. “But their reputation for running to court means that people don’t feel comfortable speaking out. “Scots with a wider cultural awareness find the whole proposition of selling titles ludicrous and insulting. As you would find with any brief trawl through social media on the subject.” Director of Highland Titles Douglas Wilson responded to Euronews Green that the company had never been to court about anything. But our off-record conversations with other environmental groups and individuals in Scotland point to the company having a hostile reputation. It’s easy to understand the company’s high profits. Tree-planting schemes tap into our eco-anxiety; combining such promises with a novelty gift pack is well-tailored to UK, US and Australian consumers. But as we’ve previously reported, it’s important to do the homework on these companies.

Well no apparently she didn't know about the king's affair with Mme de maintenon... Because imagine that the king kept Madame de Montespan at court after the poison affair to shield rumors of his secret affair with Madame de Maintenon. So that no one knows that He was really with Maintenon. Only rumors. I had read in a biographical book on Madame de Maintenon that MarieTherese had only learned a few weeks before her death of Maintenon's secret affair with the king and when she gives her the ring it was before to know and just to thank her for it having reconciled with her husband the king! she didn't know their relation. Not to tell her : OK you can get married as soon as... Especially since it was unthinkable and almost impossible for a king to marry a woman below his rank. So the queen can't have just this idea of mariage. Sorry for the traduction it's Google

These titles aren't really given to anyone and you don't really own anything, it's like buying a star. It doesn't actually give you any right to use the title. There wouldn't be anything wrong with it if they were transparent about it. Plus there is no information about how much money goes to planting trees vs to the pockets of company's owner. I almost bought it for my brother. It's a waste of money...
