the “please just give me a chance” broke me, he was so nervous and i totally understand the feeling of “i could have done so much better”. yeah it really shows that he was just nervous and a bit pitchy, but he had a unique timbre to his voice, it was warm, bright, and soft, and when he did hit the notes right it sounded great. the judges could see that he had potential, he connected with music, and he truly loved singing. add the likeability factor and it’s obvious why he got through. now with how much better his voice has gotten tone and pitch wise it shows how hard he’s worked to get where he is now, all thanks to the chance he got here

What I love is the TONE of his voice, which is so bright and hits your right in the heart. His is the voice I listen out for in every One Direction song.

@@perfumeaddict1204 yes!!! i used to care a lot about the notes being accurate bc I’ve been a musician for years, I play like 4 instruments, and I think I have either relative pitch or perfect pitch, so an out of tune note really sticks out to me. but listening to Louis actually changed that bc logically ik that some of the others (Liam and zayn mostly) are much better technique wise, but Louis’s voice touches something inside me that they can’t. idk what it is, but the inflection, the dynamics, the tone… something about Louis’s voice really connects with the music. i mean just listen to copy of a copy… I can’t imagine anyone other than Louis singing that. so like ik he sings some notes out of tune, just like a LOT of singers, but his unique tone more than makes up for it. he’s incredible.

@@perfumeaddict1204 and you’re right, one direction would have honestly sounded bland without Louis. in every chorus you can hear his voice ringing above the rest. he’s got insane projection to the point where he has struggles with the microphone bc it’s too loud at a normal distance. and he adds the color to the music, it fleshes out the harmonies. one direction wouldn’t have been the same without him.

Zayn without having a high note is generic R$B Liam is a generic copycat voice -you can plug him in anywhere but the voice if you don't see him singing could belong to anyone in the choir.

@@Musiklife.9049 Yes, that's what I'm saying he slotted in meaning anyone that could sing could have been in his place. He can sing but he was not unique in any way and proven out with the failure to make it as a solo Artist.

I think a big reason why one direction became so successful were the video diaries from the x factor days. Bringing personality to the group instead of just being singers. Louis being the funny, chaotic group clown personality is what brought them up another level and made them what they are today. The judges were right, he has a very likeable vibe to him which is what he brought to the group, not just singing talent.

Not just that- he worked A LOT behind the scenes. Harry was the face* of the group, but Louis was the leader. Has the majority of song credits, was the one who got them to fire the dude who wrote album 1 so they could write their own lyrics, was the one who was able to get their music people to change their sound from bubblegum pop to something less childish, was credited by liam for being the one who got the band to sound how it did due to his talents, made enemies behind the scene for the sake of the group, etc etc. He was a key gear inorder for 1D to be what they're known as today and then. Bless the man.

I’m upset that we came back as judge he rejected Marc Higgins who auditioned the same year as him. Big slap in the face. He’s lucky he sang hey there Delilah. Because the first song he sang didn’t do it for me.

it's so unfair that the bad clip of his audition was the one that they put in the show, making him look like he doesn't have a big talent when the reality is that he does, this is way more good. I love louis so much and his angelical voice, he deserves all the success and love

He doesn’t have talent, and he is fairly average looking too. He is likeable and charming in the audition, but the amount of luck this guy had to be in the right place at the right time and get put into 1D is like winning the lottery 3 times in a row.

I was very upset that Louis rejected Marc Higgins from the reason when he came back as judge in X factor 2018. Watching his first audition he wasn’t that good and he wasn’t going to win the competition as solo artist. That’s why he was placed in a group. His first song he sang didn’t do it for me it sounded a little karaoke. His version of Hey There Delilah was okay. He’s lucky One Direction became a global phenomenon after the show. If they never got recognition from the United States they wouldn’t be where they are today. Because name one contestant who became global success in the X factor UK before One Direction you can’t name one. One Direction is honestly lucky.

i recently went to a louis show and let me tell you.. the amount of confidence he radiated while being on that stage was electric! sold out venue and everything. if only x-factor lou knew how amazing he'd grow up to be 💘

He sang the verse of Hey there delilah so well. And him being so nervous because the audition meant so much to him was so cute i’m so happy we finally got to see this

Who else kept saying, “aww, our little baby” throughout? Just me? He was just too much cute and I’m so glad his confidence is finally showing with this tour and all these festival shows now. The “please just give me a chance” broke my heart but knowing where he ended up, healed it.

Louis is definitely the one who improve the most, it doesn't even look or sound like the same person. The fact that he came back as a judge after is so amazing. I got so emotional with what Nicole said because it's true and he did what she said, he actually doesn't move much around the stage in the tour now, because he believes in what he's singing and we just feel that by listening, he is much more confident and that's exactly what he needed to became the best version of himself, nicole was so right about all of them. And I can't believe that I went to this guy concert, he accomplished so much, I'm SO proud of him Sorry for the long comment, I got emotional

That pure smile he got through out this whole audition, his unique and soothing voice, and the tense he is feeling while singing and speaking to the judges. I can feel his whole love and passion to music and his real dedication to show it to the world. There was a reason he was my favourite from the beginning. I can't say I was a 1D fan but their songs and faces were everywhere back than and it was difficult not to notice. And Louis was always special to me. Now I have all his album on my playlist, listening to it almost daily and I can proudly say I am his fan. His music and his personality are both amazing. He's really come so far and only getting better!

Idk if I just remembered differently but he doesn’t sound as off key as in the original clip ?? Idk I’ll have to rewatch it, it may be sound quality. In this his pitch actually seems ok for a lot of it, whereas in the original one I was cringing. Obv as someone who loves him & his voice I would still look back and see his potential but like u I did not rly see why he would get thru then (aside from marketability or whatever).

@@Mothromance cause the part they showed was fine at first and then the second half was really pitchy, and they only played the part like that. it was the first chorus. he went a whole tone off pitch and seemed to just lose the key he was in for a part of a phrase. but then he got back on after for “hey there Delilah I know times are getting hard” which wasnt in the original, and that part was really good and showed off his unique timbre. he had a few notes that went off pitch after that (“good” and “me” were off) but overall that’s easily fixed by not straining, and he’s gotten better at that by using more breath support and less throat tension. that’s why he was off for a bit at the end of “oh it’s what you do to me” at the end but then it got softer and on pitch when he repeated the phrase lower. he stopped being tense the second phrase. sorry for the rant I’m a singer and I love Louis yk how it goes lol

Am I the only one who started crying? Tbh I don't know if as a singer I'd have given him the chance back then. And they are far more strict now. But you could see how much he wanted it, how much passion he had for music, and I' ve always loved his emotion when singing. I'm so glad they could see that and put him through and I'm so proud of how far he's come.

Yeah it’s weird how relaxed they were back then honestly I don’t think any of the boys would’ve made it today except for maybe Liam but look at them now, they are absolutely incredible and so talented and there was even a clip of Ed Sheehan when he was younger and he was terrible honestly but now he’s so incredibly good

The fact that this audition is so much inspiring for people who have stage fear and feel nervous .. Looking at louis in this audition to now , he really developed the x factor !!

"give me a chance" to "given a chance" i can't express how much it means for nicole to encourage and love this boy from the start because without him id have ended up rotting w myself if not for his songs and him as a human being. so proud of how he come and with selling out a world tour and now fulfilling his teenage dream to do a festival, god, he deserves the world. like imagine how many people would have missed out on this theatre boy???

I had never followed 1Ds journey, but seen some of the earlier videos of them as a group and I felt like Louis was not given enough spot singing and I thought he might not have a good vocals. Im no singer, but listening to this audition, this guy has an amazing voice, for me as a listener.

Wow he actually performed well back then!! Louis has this huge magnetism since the very beginning. Such a talented and invested artist, too... it's been such a journey and somehow I feel there's much more to come bc he's always improving

After what.... 13 years and we're now just seeing this?! 😭😭 But honestly, I'm grateful for it, this is remarkable. My life is complete now that I've seen all of the boys full audition

I am unbelievably thankful that they gave Louis these chance he is one of the best people on this earth and I just love him so much😭

you can tell how nervous he was and how badly he wanted to get through “please just give me a chance” 🥺 im so glad they gave him a chance and i am so incredibly proud of how far he has come

Oh, he was SO nervous it breaks my heart. I don't think, to this day, that this boy knows how much he conveys with his voice. He puts his whole heart to his singing, you can feel the vulnerability in it, and that's not something you can find in every artist/singer. Loved his unique voice from the start and he also happened to be a pretty damn good lyricist. My favorite 1D member, hands down.

Louis you made it!! I don't think many people know that Louis queued up at 3am for this audition so that the judges didn't have 'audition fatigue' by the time they saw him. If he seems like he doesn't care it's likely because he's exhausted. He'd never performed to an audience like this and just look at him now with a world tour of sold out arenas and a stadium gig next year. We are so proud of you

There’s not a day that I’m not extremely proud of Louis. He’s achieved so much and watching him grow through our eyes feels even more surreal after watching this. He deserves the entire world.

The way I dropped everything I was doing to watch this. It's so cute. He was so nervous. 1D would have gone stale if Louis (+Liam) hadn't taken charge of the songwriting department. Hate how overlooked he was while in the band. He's got such a unique and delicate voice. I'm so proud of where he is now, headlining festivals, finished with a sold out world tour with a second album on the way. Hope he feels comfortable and confident enough to show us his best stuff in the future. I love you Lou

I stopped breathing 😮‍💨 for a min but that happens a lot with Louis videos

he did amazing. Seeing how nervous he was back then, compared to how much his confidence have drastically changed since his first tour, is beyond heart warming. He deserves every bit of happiness and support. Stream “Walls” by Louis Tomlinson

Louis was really nervous but he really has that X factor! He is so charming. Can't ignore how Nicole saw that potential in all of them.

I was pouting the whole time. Louis has really come so far. I’ve been listening to One Direction since I was seven, and I turn seventeen soon. I felt so proud watching this, almost as if I was watching him grow up. 😭

This was his third audition for the X Factor and he did it in spite of his nerves and fear of failure....true Capricorn spirit. Can't think of anyone who has worked harder, under more duress than Louis. He deserves the world and is such an inspiration and joy.

@@isafranco7747 Tomlinson auditioned for the television talent competition The X Factor in 2009 but was turned down. However, when he returned to try out for the show's seventh season in 2010, his rendition of the song "Hey There Delilah" by the Plain White T's brought him successfully into the competition. I had read a long time ago that it was his third time in 2010 but I can not find any article that goes up to three times now...they all parrot the same information. Our boy has ambitions!

He was really nervous but he really has a talent as you can see. Louis you deserve anything you are doing. Look where you are now, you've come so far honey. I'm very happy and proud to witness the greatest achievements and maturity in you. I love you so much Louis ❤️

Descubrí a Louis recién en 2020 con su carrera en solitario y debo decir que amo a este hombre, pocos artistas me emocionan tanto como él lo hace. Lo veo asi chiquito y me da orgullo todo lo que ha logrado; estoy feliz de haber sido parte de su tour mundial y ansiosa por LT2.

He have come from so far, he was so nervous but no one have the same voice, his voice truly is unique.
