    The accountant is overlooking two key points. First, Louie has some theater gigs coming up. And secondly, what about Obama?

    Also he made 17 million dollars from the gigs coming up, meaning that he would have been able to afford the house in question.

    @@jpentw11 the guy was making a joke and you are leaving out several key numbers. how much tax he pays, is he making the same amount in the show as he makes in real life, how much does his ex wife get after taxes, etc etc etc.

    @@ModeratelyAmused I’m aware the scene is fictional. I remember watching this when it was more true to life be Louis CK wasn’t that popular yet. Then he really did make enough money to buy the house in question the following year. At the time I felt so good for him!

    Indeed. I can only imagine how many financial advisors/accountants/real estate agents just sit around gassing their clients up, saying "you said you only make 10k a year? Oh you'll be able to afford this 600k house no problem! Sign here, sir!"

    I’m sure most personal accountants would have been straight with their clients then, since they wouldn’t actually make money off the sale. That wouldn’t stop mortgage officers at the banks from trying to convince subprime borrowers otherwise.

    This show is deep, as funny as this is, this scene satirizes how out of touch and delusional many of us are about money and how unrealistic some of our financial goals are, how crushing it is to realize what you can really afford is so far from what you want to afford sometimes. @@wilsonallender6334 I know I'm late to this, and it doesn't really matter, but I can't help but give my 2 cents (or my 7 thousand lol). I think that while Louie is usually reasonable, it actually adds to his character that he's inconsistent about that when it comes to his family. That's true throughout the show, so many times he gets himself into trouble for the people he loves. He doesn't want a crazy mansion for himself, he even says it's for his daughters. There's such heartbreaking hope in his voice when he says they're going to love it. That's the beauty of the show, it's honest to a fault

    Skozzy That and many, many other things in the show. He even said why he gets away with so much in the show is that he is always the one that is wrong, ends up looking dumb, ignorant, etc. Everyone else was the victor and he was chasing. Comparable to Curb but darker which is why I loved this show so so much. Even Louis on HBO if you’ve ever seen that. Horace And Pete. I love anything he writes because he’ll get real and be wrong on purpose to bring up great dialogue in the shows.

  • @TGIFrank

    @TGIFrank

    9 ай бұрын

    It's a good sort of melancholy. It really plays up the fact that if someone is depressed with who they are before they've "made it," there's a good chance they'll still struggle with day to day realities throughout and beyond their transition into wealth, success and fame. It's kind of like Seinfeld except the main character is a funny standup comedian. It's been probably 10 years since I watched it, don't even remember when it came out, but even the particularly sad or awkward episodes end with a standup bit like Seinfeld did. But again, they're actually funny, so instead of immediately skipping through banal observations about the world through a privileged lens bearing no actual relevance to the world or human condition at large played under credits so you can get to the next episode, Louie gives you a genuine laugh to take the edge off.

Let’s say it doubled in value right up until his scandal became public a couple of years ago. If he isn’t able to afford the house anymore, he would sell it for $34mil. therefore walking away with over $30 million in gains, minus closing costs.
