Louder Than Words - an LGBTQ ( GAY ) Film

Фильм және анимация

Director: Julio Dowansingh
Cinematographer: Art Parnitudom
Louder Than Words follows a young musician named Ansel (Luke Farley), and his unexpected encounter with Niall (Marty Lauter also known as Marcia Marcia Marcia from Season 15 of RuPaul’s Drag Race), an endearing, deaf dancer.
When forced to share a studio space, artists Ansel and Niall find themselves awkwardly beside each other, performing song and dance respectively. They have an underlying connection, and that is a closeted interest and admiration of each other. While Niall can read lips, an obvious language barrier still stands between him and Ansel. In order to communicate, Ansel and Niall must step out of their comfort zones, because even though they share similar passions and quickly inspire each other, the inevitable risk of miscommunication-both in language and emotion-remains, rendering their hidden affection almost impossible to express.
The film explores the sheer struggle that queer people often face in a culture that is yet to fully foster accepting spaces for courtship and love. At its core, the story portrays how difficult it can be to communicate romantic interest as a queer person, and in this case, the added impediment of being deaf.

Niall’s smile at the end was… everything! Plus it’s so nice to see a happy LGBTQ+ short film, even the saddest part was only an initial rejection and it wasn’t aggressive. This is up there with ‘The Way he Looks’ for revolutionary gay/disabled love stories

Why oh why does everything have to be LGBTQ++++++++ these days, why cant it just be what it is, Same Sex, all the other stuff people do with all these pronouns and gender is all crap, social engendering at it's best, you do realize this is all programed propaganda right, ever wonder why everything has become weaponized? Sexuality, Church, Religion, Education, politics, social justice, all labels created and used against us all, to divide us all rather then live and let live, why can't people just be. human in all their glory as long as their authentic in their being. I am gay, but I despise all this nonsense, its utter BS, just be you and skip all the labeling. there are no gay rights, starlight right, black right or white, their are just rights PERIOD. look back and see where all this started from, learn some history and you might just have another thought of your own rather than this programed propaganda agenda., sorry, but I am so tired of this crap and I have to speak out against it, we are at war and all this division foisted upon us all is part of it, these are tools used by some very crafty but also very evil entities.

@@SuperMatt2112 in so far that there shouldn’t be a need for labels for people, and we should just be who we are: I agree. As for the “LGBTQ+’ label issue, we might disagree in its use. The ideal label for me here would just be “non-heteronormative” which would cover all relationships that aren’t straight, but who in their right mind would say that? I hope this has been clarifying for you, with respect to my choice of words. But If you’re just here to look for a fight, then you’re out of luck. I just wouldn’t reply.

@@SuperMatt2112 history is the main reason why it is important to do all this, if you don’t think so then you are the one who should learn some history. Only after all of this is finally normalized everywhere and by everyone, and after everyone respects each other’s rights, then we can live and let live. This is not “propaganda”, this is reality.

@@SuperMatt2112 How about you let other people with different identities live and let live, take your own words of advice. Stop watching media that convinces you that other people you don't understand are just indoctrinated. You're gay, congrats, want an award? And yes, rights need to be specified. Are whites mercilessly killed by police the way POC are? Are trans women abused more than cis women? How long was it since gay marriage was allowed, and also, can you be denied service based on your sexuality with the excuse of "religious freedom"? Also, speaking of religion, when was the last time there was mass persecution of christians (or white people) as opposed to muslims or brown people? Who has suffered genocidal attacks in recent years, christian white men? The reason these distinctions are made is so you're aware of what people may be coming from. On average, LGBTQ and minorities have suffered far more and greater trauma then their "majority" counterparts, and if you want to understand where people come from you have to ask why, and get to the bottom of it. Dismissing it as mere propaganda is laziness and carelessness, and you should consider yourself lucky you haven't been through the trauma of others.

How is it that superficial and sugary shorts are more popular than this one? The creators have depicted the birth of a connection with simplicity, yet in a way that this “wire” is almost tangible, just as I could sense it with my fingers. That’s the power of silence and of humility, letting things develop without rushing (as in most, poorly written, films). Thumbs up and thanks for this little gem!

  • @talastra

    @talastra

This one is no less sugary, it's just done well. I will say, that the moment of the "lit up smile" in the presence of one longed for is maybe more powerful than the acknowledgment of the first kiss. Superficial and sugary, or drawn with a bit more depth, it's heartwarming and affirming in a (remembered) world of hopeless longing when younger.

Yes, I'm amazed at how short some peoples' attention spans seem to be, yet a lot want to see full length films. The art of the short film is just that, an art. It's much more difficult to convey a convincing story in under 20 minutes.

This was beautiful. Makes me want to learn ASL so I can communicate with people like him. I remember in school trying to tell a boy hello after school and he didn't notice me at first. So I caught up with him and then he saw me. I waved and said hello. He smiled back at me. I asked him how his day was, and then he began to say something in sign that I didn't understand. I was confused, and felt really bad. I remember running to a teacher in tears because I thought I offended him. Being autistic, I always overthink and over worry when someone misunderstands me or gets offended. I used to have frequent breakdowns and anxiety attacks too. I still do unfortunately. The teacher said she would tell his aide and make sure that he knew that I meant well. I still didn't feel good after that. The next week I saw him, he waved at me. I just glanced at him and looked down at the ground. He tried to get my attention, but I was having an anxiety attack, which sometimes makes me go mute because it gets so bad. I signed that I was feeling bad the best I could by pointing at myself and doing a thumbs down. I pointed to the sky and it was overcast that day. He understood but still tried to get me to go over to him. I shook my head no and signed sorry. My teacher's aide taught me how. He then walked up to me and handed me a note that said he had a good day and hope I did too. After that I couldn't get myself to talk with him again because I felt so bad for being unable to understand or communicate. I remember not really being able to speak much that week due to my anxiety and deep regret. It still affects me today, minus the childhood trauma I deal with every day. I wish people would understand that sometimes my anxiety makes me go mute and I can't communicate. Most people say I'm faking a disorder when I'm really not. I don't even know what to do or how to communicate when it gets that bad. I just hope that it's over soon and that's it. 😔

Yes, rhythm is a brain thing, not an ear thing. More annoyingly, perfect pitch is also a brain thing, NOT an ear thing. I know I girl who got just enough benefit from hearing aids that she wore them. She could recognize her friends by voice but never got words. Anyway, one day there was this guy whoi liked to sing and he walked past her room. She came out screaming, "STFU!!! STOP!!! OMFG! WTF is your problem? You're way off key and you're FLAT!!! And what's wrong with all of you with perfect hearing? How can you stand it?" And there was me with perfect hearing but I have NO rhythm and am seriously tone deaf. His singing didn't bother me at all, lol. So yeah, pitch and rhythm work just fine without hearing, bizarre as that sounds. Funny thing was since I'm fluent in ASL, I got nominated to explain it all to her. It blew her mind. She just thought she was more sensitive than most peoplewith her hearing loss. She had no idea that people with perfect hearing could be oblivious to things like being off key:-)

I LOVE this short video, I've watched it three times in the last couple of months and it always warms my heart to see it. I wish they'd do a series about these two guys or a 90 minute movie.

Beautiful work of art! Every scene so palpable. I love the editing! Also: the actors reminded me of how I pictured Simon Snow and Baz(if Ansel had longer hair) from Rainbow Rowell's Carry On series lol they're perfect

Loved the short and loved their chemistry between the actors... I have one big suggestion that will make a huge difference and that's adding subtitles... I think it would make perfect sense since well it's a story about a disabled person who can't hear and also people who don't speak English can also benefit from subs... Lots of people are asking in the comment section which is why I decided to suggest it cause I do think it needs it...

The shared space premise was a great device for the main setting. Ansel could have practiced anywhere as where Niall needs the mirrored space, So Ansel choose to return to the space, direct intention confirmed. And based on that I saw this as a treatment for a longer film. Kudos to Luke and Marty and much success in the future. Cast and all Crew I thank you and salute you I do!
