I went to college in southern California and the Lighthouse Jazz Club in Hermosa Beach was a half hour's drive from my apartment. Lou Rawls was playing one summer night, but his group missed a flight and sitting in was Les McAnn and his Trio. That was back in 1964 or 1965. It was a great club back then with celebrities and other jazz artists sometimes jamming with the group on stage..

My "Tobacco Road/Dead End St" was called "Alameda St", as a kid I always lived near it! From Watts you could see "The Rodia Towers" to the west,LA city hall to the north.

I swear there should be a movie made about his life and Denzel Washington should play the part of Lou Rawls.
