I trained at the same gym as Del Valle. Morris Park Boxing Club in the Bronx. Lou was a nice guy, a little cocky; he knew that he was special. Lou Del Valle went on to win a belt at light heavyweight.

@B45 Lou was cocky in that he knew he was a very good boxer. Before turning pro, Lou won the NY City Golden Gloves, a tough tournament. After turning pro, Lou was brought along slowly, gaining experience until he was ready to challenge Virgil Hill for the title. Lou lost a close decision to Hill. Lou's sister, Melissa also trained at the Morris Park gym in the Bronx. Melissa was a natural. After less than six months of training, Melissa won the Golden Gloves. Melissa, like her brother Lou, also became a world champion. Looking back, I was very lucky to have trained next to two world champions. For your information, I never sparred with Lou or Melissa.
