このロータスエリーゼは、マクラーレンF1をはじめラ・フェラーリアペルタ、マクラーレンP1、カレラGTなど、多くのスーパースポーツカーを所有し、さらにフェラーリのフォーミュラ１やFXX-Kでサーキット走行を楽しんでいるオーナーがワインディングロード専用に仕立て上げたスペシャルなロータスエリーゼだ。手を入れられる所はほぼ性能向上のためにモデファイされている。エクステリアはオリジナルを保ちながらオリジナルデザインの軽量鍛造アルミホイールに交換し、ドライカーボンの大型ディフューザー・アッパーグリル・エンジンフード・スポーツミラー、そしてポリカーネイドウィンドゥと、ライトウェイトのエリーゼはさらに軽量化された。インテリアはドライバーシートがワンオフのドライカーボン製バケットシートとステアリングに変更され、マシンコンディションを確認するためのデジタルメーターが追加された。シャシーは調整式ペンスキー製ダンパーユニットを採用、低められたライドハイトに合わせサスペンションジオメトリーも変更され、理想的なホイールアライメントを実現している。そしてオリジナルエンジンは下ろされ、スペシャリストのハンドメイドによって新規作製されたフルチューニングユニットがワンオフのチタン製エグゾーストシステムと合わせ搭載されている。このスペシャルエンジンは低速からレブリミットまでトルクの谷がなく力強い俊敏な加速を実現していて、初代BMW M3のレーシングユニットに近いフィーリングだった。刺激的なエグゾーストサウンドとアクセルレスポンスに優れるエンジン特性は、このスペシャルなライトウェイトマシンを操ることに至福のドライビングプレジャーを与えてくれる。ハンドリング特性は、高剛性シャシーとしなやかなロードホールディング力を発揮するサスペンションと理想的なジオメトリーによって、まるでフォーミュラカーのように繊細なステアリング応答性の高さと、ツーリングカーらしい粘り強いグリップ感をあわせ持っていた。ようは、とんでもない速さでコーナーを攻略することが可能で、アンダーステアやオーバーステアは無茶しない限り顔を出すことはなかった。そしてレーシングカーのように剛性感あるペダルタッチのブレーキは、APロッキード製4PodブレーキキャリパーとPFC製ブレーキパッド&フローティングディスクが採用されていた。ロータスエリーゼというスポーツカーをメーカーが設計した際に、コスト等の問題で市販化されるときに妥協し性能ダウンしてしまった箇所を、設計者の意図通りに修正して、さらにブラッシュアップする手法で完成したこのスペシャルなエリーゼは、素晴らしいスポーツカーコレクションを新車時から現在まですべて所有し走らせている、いわば高次元でスポーツカーの美点を理解しているオーナーでなければ、ここまで高次元に仕立て上げることはできなかっただろう。時間が許すなら一日中ワインディングロードを走っていたいと思わせられた、超極上なスペシャルエリーゼだった。

Lotus Elise R Special. This Lotus Elise R is tailored by the owner who owns many super sports cars such as McLaren F1, La Ferrari, McLaren P1, Carrera GT, and also enjoys circuit driving with Ferrari F1 and Porsche cup car etc. Everything that can be modified has been modified to improve its performance. The exterior is a lightweight Lotus Elise with original design lightweight aluminum wheels, large dry carbon rear diffuser, engine hood, sports mirror, acrylic window, etc. while maintaining the original appearance. In the interior, the driver seats have been changed to one-off dry carbon bucket seats and steering, and meters have been added to check the mechanical condition. The chassis uses an adjustable Penske damper unit and is replaced with a suspension arm that matches the lowered ride height, achieving ideal alignment settings. The original engine of the power unit has been lowered, and the 2L full tuning unit newly manufactured by the specialists is installed together with the one-off titanium exhaust system. This power unit has powerful and powerful agile acceleration performance with no torque valley from low speed range to rev limit over 9500 rpm, and it feels close to that of the racing unit of the first BMW M3. Exciting exhaust sound and excellent accelerator response engine characteristics gives you the blissful driving pleasure of manipulating this special lightweight machine. Handling is the benefit of wheel alignment, which is ideal for suspensions that demonstrate a highly rigid chassis and supple road holding power, and realizes handling that combines good steering response like a formula car with tenacious high grip like a touring car. Not only was it possible to capture the corners at a ridiculous speed, but understeer and oversteer didn't show up unless it was overdriven. And for the pedal touch and rigid brake like a racing car, AP Racing's caliper and special brake pad & floating disc brake were adopted. This particular Elise was completed at a high level because it was matured from the perspective of an owner who knows all the beauty of sports cars, who still owns and runs a wonderful collection of new cars. It was a really special Elise that made me want to run the winding road all day if there were no time limitations.
