It's OK Caleb, most of us get it ! I am an avid DIYer and projects take time, money and resources when you are doing a major restoration. You're doing a great job on the restoration and the videos ! All this effort is worth it ! And you will reap its benefits plus the satisfaction few achieve in their lifetimes ! Praises to all your progress !

We have loved watching you bring this stunning house back to life! And, boy, do we understand after restoring an 1898 Victorian. But to watch the beauty of a period home return is worth the wait, money, surprises-ugh-, tears, and bandages. Thank you!

I found this episode very interesting Kaleb! Those of us who have been here from the beginning and are here for the entire journey with you understand that every week is not going to give us major renovations done. Just seeing the amount of trim you are preparing for the mansard restoration shows what a daunting task it will be! I also enjoyed seeing some of those interior rooms again, it’s been a minute! Keep up the good work!

I’ve been following you since the beginning and was so tickled when you finished the bathroom. I appreciate your conservative approach to getting the mansard roof right. It’s a huge project of which you’ve been funding, planning, and working on for a few years now. I’m excited that the finish line is finally in sight!!

I enjoy a bit of variety, and it was fun (and interesting) to see the other rooms again. You are fortunate to have a large amount of interior space to do your painting. You are doing the right thing, being conservative about 'ripping things out'. I hope one day, when you are in your 60s, you can look back and be comforted by the fact you restored this roof/dormer area properly. I love those Victorian interior pocket shutters! I've seen them on houses in other parts of the country, and they make so much sense. Plus I'm with you in your appreciation for beautiful wood. Look forward to your update next week! :)

An outcome video every week doesn't feel realistic to me. You are doing an awesome job Caleb! The patience and dedication, research and sourcing, take a emotional and exhaustive effort. That doesn't even take into consideration, the actual hands on work time. Again I commend you. I was employed most of my 40+ working years as buyer. Getting the right product to the right place at the right time, from the right source at the right price... (you get the picture) It's more of a challenge than most people would appreciate. best wishes for each milestone achievement

I agree! I know (and expect) that most of your projects cannot be completed in 1 week (before the next episode). However, there have been a few times that I've thought, "why is he doing this 1 thing, when he could be finishing the other thing?" With this video, it shows how you are working to complete the main thing, while also working on other things.... at the same time.... and that they will eventually line up as a completed project. Thus you are giving better insight into your overall attack, which I appreciate so much! Keep up the good work!

Thank you for inspiring me so much. I’m currently in the middle of restoring a historic victorian home in the middle of the desert. Been watching you since I lived in a little apartment in San Diego. You encouraged me to follow my lifelong dreams and restore a piece of history myself. I’ve quit certain work. I’ve broken down and cried in the middle of a roofing store. I’ve hurt myself working. I’ve messed up projects and had to start over. I’ve been overwhelmed beyond belief at times. Paralyzed not knowing where to start because there’s so much. But I need to be patient and realistic. People like you help me with that. You come so far and the place looks amazing. You may not see the progress as fast as you like, but it’s there. Please take time to pat yourself on the back and relax. You guys are doing great!!

I've been here almost since the beginning, and I just want to say it's so impressive to see the amount of care you put into everything. It makes the historian in me so happy to see your drive to restore things to how they used to be. Also, I loved this week's video and had fun seeing some of the rooms we hadn't seen in a while again! It's such a beautiful place. Wishing you all the best with the rest of the journey!

25 years ago i bought a victorian house that had not been touched it still had wall mounted lead gas pipe wall lights , and all the original doors ect the fireplaces had been painted over [ so much paint ] along with boarded over fire places with 1930's gas fires in front . i have spent 25 years restoring this old house [ i will never move to a modern wooden box ] . keep up with your dream you will get there eventualy :)

Can you re-use any of the slate off the roof, it would certainly help with the cost?

I realize it's almost no discount anymore, but to be honest, it would've made more sense to me to just build something out of "budget" as in standard materials to at least mostly close up and temporarily fix the stuff that's there. Take down the stuff that needs to be repaired or replicated, and just get it sealed in so you can do the interior work while you're waiting, especially over the winter, and you'll have something solid and safe there.

I agree. And setting priorities seems to be his weakness as seen in several other videos. This one shines the light on getting machinery related to the owner of the house rather than focusing on having the tree problem addressed. Or getting the building the machines are stored in weatherproofed and safe. But priorities are not his forte. In fact, he actually believes his priorities are correctly set and has lots of excuses or as he would say reasons why they are set as they are. But, rock on. It's content.

Its easier said than done, but I would have considered building a temporary plywood roof over that gaping hole a long while back. His trouble is, that would likely be a few days' work, and he has to keep interesting content coming.

Great content, Caleb. I love seeing the different parts of the house. I’ve watched every episode from the beginning to now. I enjoy them all! One of these days I’m going to stop and see you and Kim. Don’t worry, I will make arrangements with you ahead of time. We live about 2 hours away in Illinois and go to STL several times a year. My sister lives in Alton, IL and her boyfriend is an architect that works all over STL.

I recommend getting yourself some rubber roofing to throw up in there in the meantime, will save you a lot of headache with the cheaply made tarps that seem to rip if you sneeze. Love the videos and what you’re doing to the place keep up the good work!
