That's the purpose of this video- To make you THINK and to know your RIGHTS. Yes, it's graphic to lose a limb or get crushed in a machine, but it CAN be PREVENTED with the correct mindset of knowing the risks involved.
My Planning 10 teacher made us watch this for the second time today. The first time we did I couldn't make it through and left class for like 10 minutes. Nick (the guy with the piercings that got the boards dropped on him) actually came to our school and talked to us after the video. He was a pretty cool guy and it was really interesting hearing his story. But the first time we watched this it made me feel really uneasy since I was in a car accident at 6/7 years old and I had a job at a grocery store at the time.
Did anybody else watch this when they were like 14 and was absolutely traumatized after?

Indeed. I wasn't in anything called Planning 10, but I was in a course involving metal working and such (this was a few years ago), and there was this one girl who got her finger caught in a roller because someone was rolling too fast when she was gripping her metal bar, and it slightly pinched her finger too much. Any more and that would've been insanely painful. Hard for people to believe such things can happen, but indeed, they can.

That's what I don't understand- they show us really crazy stories about people getting injured on the job, to teach us about jobs. This video is literally telling us that if you're getting a job, you're gonna get injured.

I had to watch this in planning 10 and again before my first work day in construction. It's actually hunting.
On the first day my boss was going to use a steam shovel to lift me up to the second story and do the windows, and I said forget it, so he fired me. Three hours later, the replacement worker got in an fell out and the site was shut down.

It's a mandatory course for grade 10 which you need to graduate. I'm not sure if this is country wide, but it is definitely BC wide, and it's a program which has been around for about 3 years. It's supposed to teach you about post secondary life, such as how to make resumes, cover letters, university courses you may need to take, potential future careers, work safety, ect. I'm taking it now and this is the last assignment we have to do (thank god). There's a worksheet we need to answer after watching this video.

I hate planning. This disturbed me a lot
why cant they just explain 1 by 1, like does my school expect me sherlock homes this?
I met the guy who was in the wheel chair today. He was a really nice guy and everything. His story was kind of inspirational yet very frightening.
Not even once. If something makes you feel unsafe at the workplace ALWAYS ALWAYS ask about proper training and use of it. Dont risk it. Not even once. It could change you life forever. Thanks for the video!
why is planning 10 a class
great video! I'm a safety engineer and I have never seen a company that was put out of business because of the costs of training, safety equipment etc. But I have seen companies that were shut down because of one (dosen't have to be fatal or as serious as the ones in this video) work related accident! It's cheaper for companies to train and properly equip all their workers than to have just one accident!
I was horrified myself when I saw this video for the first time, and I was even more horrified when I too had lost parts of my fingers in a accident earlier this year. I felt that it was the biggest mistake I had made in my life. I don't to see what happen to me or any of these youths happen to any other youth starting at work. I wish for them a safe job,and they always have the right to refuse unsafe work.
People always complain about how graphic this shit is. That's the point. Losing body parts IS graphic. And it fucking hurts like hell. Physically AND mentally, forever. You always have the right to say no without proper training. If something doesn't feels safe, don't do it. You deserve better than that.
i want my 17 mins back.
I know the point of this is to emphasize the importance of workplace safety and that's absolutely important and what happened here is awful and the pain they went through is horrible, but like.... As a young disabled person... being disabled isn't the end of your life, it makes me uncomfortable how bleak this video is, like my life and the lives of these kids are doomed to be constant torture just because we use wheelchairs or have visible differences. We're not unlovable freaks, we can still do things, we can still be happy.

@heterosapiens_sapiens

I mean, Im trying not to sound like uh offensive here, but I think there is a bit of a difference between someone who is born disabled, and someone who got disabled later in life. Here's my take, feel free to correct it: Someone who is born disabled, even though they can *see* and feel how they're different, will never get a first hand experience of what they would have had. So in a way its like "you cant miss what you've never had". Also people born disabled, depending on the disability, their body sort of compensates it in different ways, for example blind people having great hearing and touch. They dont "lose" something they never had in the first place Someone who gets disabled later in life, and the effects are more pronounced the later in life, and I guess this also applies to aging, in a way the disability is more painful, because they did experience a normal life, and likely took it for granted beforehand, they didn't think it was anything special, so when they suddenly lose something, because they had it at some point. And to top it all off, their body will probably never ever compensate for it. Hopefully this makes sense, and I genuinely hope that I didn't say anything too obviously wrong, and I wouldn't know, because I've never been disabled, and hopefully I don't suffer any tragic accidents later in life. Please, please do correct me if I'm wrong.

You expect Nick to be happy that he can't dance anymore? Jennifer to no be traumatized after seeing her fingers ripped off? A 16 year hating that he can't walk after a work accident is normal
Why so many dislikes? This is real shit that happens everyday. This video is a great powerful reminder of what can happen in seconds and change your life forever

I really feel for the people in this video, but here's a list of what I would of done in those situations: - Dough machine: Turned it off and inspect the problem - Wood stack: Got at a safe distance - Nighttime work: Grabbed the edge and pulled as hard as I can to rip through the pants and hang on. - Spinning around forklift: Leave and ask someone to help in the current situation.
Imma be fr, the music is def the creepiest thing about this video
how did the guy that lost his leg not bleed out in minutes
I ended up watching this four times in high school. It never got any less terrifying, really. And it was fucking MANDATORY. I asked if I could go to the library because I'd already seen it three times and they made me stay. With the modifications made to Grant's Law, I'm not convinced that anybody has any concern about people who don't work in industrial settings.
Nick Perry came and spoke about his story with much more detail in my Planning class today. Very inspiring, don't take any of this for granted!
Okay. 1) Never put your fingers near any moving machinery ever. That’s just common sense. 2) Never put a forklift in gear unless you’re sitting in the operator’s compartment with the seatbelt on. 3) Never stop the forklift with the forks still up in the air. More common sense. 4) Never walk on moving conveyor belts or moving machinery. That’s common....you know.

this fking soundtrack though,,,
I was at school and i saw Nick Perry in person, i want to say Thank you WorkSafeBC and Nick for showing me this.
We have to watch this in grade 10 Careers class.. :/
WHYYYY OH GOD WHYYY DO I HAVE TO TAKE PLANNING ON LINE?!!!!!

these are terrible special effects wtf, after reading the comments i was expecting something much more gruesome
90% of the comments are either related to planning 10 (Saw this in that class too btw XD) or people asking whats up with the over dramatic music
I feel really bad for these people. I wish they had the courage to say that they feel unsafe in the job.
John Higgins, isn't paralyzed, he just broke his back his back is healing but if yo notice the cane he can walk but its really sore to this day. He still has sharp shooting pain since his incident when he was only 16. It wasn't his fault it was lack of training.
Thanks a lot Career Life Education 11, now I have to watch it again for the questions...
this is scaring the dough outta me.
Why the feck do they want to scare young teens like this. It isn't gonna help kids to want to get jobs. WTF
Thank you for the time saver
Taking it online and it's so shitty and outdated. Honestly if they paid someone to go through the course and fix all the shit that's outdated it would only take a few hours.
"When I looked at my hand I knew something was missing."
Why must there be sound effects like I'm walking through a haunted house -.-"
I shouldn't even be here, I'm not taking the Planning 10 course till next year, I'm just helping my girlfriend with her homework.... oh well. I'm saving the assignments I've done on my laptop for use next year! :D
My stupid teacher forced me to watch this in class today and I’m actually traumatized lmao
oh God what is this? saw?!
Planning 10 is the best course, if you like the depression and anxiety that comes of thinking about the future.
The music is from like a bad 80s' horror movie.
great....now I will never sleep again
This video is freaking terrifying. I watched this in my career life education 10 class and now I’m legit scared to get a job. The combination of the creepy af music and the incidents with gore make this so scary
I just learned my lesson. This scared the shit out of me. Not going to be careless.
So many times, I've saved others from making these kinds of mistakes. There's a lot of value in having an experienced worker nearby. I had close calls myself but I was fortunate to have good safety training and the benefit of learning with more experienced workers who were very safety conscious. If only somebody could have been there to intervene, I can't count the number of times I've seen people saved from precarious situations by others who spotted the danger and yelled to them or intervened. We all have to look out for each other all the time.
honestly WHAT IS THIS, THIS DOESNT MAKE ME WANT TO WORK
Had to watch this for co op
At 13:26 there are Z 95.3 radio stickers on the forklift.
one of my friends watched this in school and fainted when they saw blood. yikes
Anyone else have to watch this video of an school assignment?
After watching this video, I will NEVER look at people with, lets say, appendages missing, the same EVER again. Some idiots will look in curiosity and amusement, and I will look in sympathy and sorrow.
this is freaking violent
Planning 10 why would you make us watch this!!!! 😰
This is excellent information for young workers to know. Although this was a bit grafic, i think it'd have a powerful impact on youth.
That feeling when you get the work fails in related section. Now that's irony!

why is this video still in use, like i am a filmmaker and i will remake it. like bro its 2021 and the video is in 240 p
I guess someone should know that without having to be told, but they should have trained her and made sure she knew that before letting her operate the machine.
What are the answers
my grandpa used to put wheels on big riggs like i'm talking about 6 feet in diameter and one of them fell and crushed his jaw :(
