Lost Souls Ultra Marathon 100K

The Lost Soul Ultra Marathon takes place the weekend following Labour Day in Lethbridge, Alberta. The trail course runs through the river valley coulees on public and private land. In this event, 320 ultra-marathoners race against each other, the elements, and the unrelenting hills. Less than 150 years ago, these valleys were the site of the last major First Nations battle on Canadian soil between the Blackfoot and Cree Confederacies.

Great video and well done on your run. It is the beauty of the course and the amazing volunteers that keep me going back every year. Hope to see you next year. I will be the guy with the pony tails.

This video was so good! I've been hauled to the Lost Souls ultra since I was 8 (I'm 24 now) cheering on my dad doing 50k, 100k, and the 100 miler, but never saw what the actual course looked like. Such great insight! Congratulations, Tyler!

This is such an awesome video - thank you for making this. First of all, amazing accomplishment. 100K is stone cold no joke and especially in the coulees of Lethbridge. I have lived in Lethbridge my whole life (44 years) and have been running every inch of this course (minus the private land part) for the last 25. I have completed the Lost Soul Ultra 6 times now but always the 50K. Every year when I finish the 50 I think "Would I want to do that again" and every time I say no LOL. The 100K is on my list though. On year I will make it happen. What is amazing about that course is no one is ever out there. My favorite run is I park at Pavan park and run the course to the softball diamond and then the course back to PAVAN. Running just doesn't get much better than that. It was fun to see my local stomping grounds on your video. One question though - what did you mean by you haven't let the genie out of the bottle? Meaning you have not let negative thoughts creep in, or you have just kept it slow and steady? In any case you looked hella strong out there and in great spirits. Very well done on this and the video. Thanks:)

Ah! Thank you for your thoughtful reply. As for the “Genie,” all of the above. How does that saying go? Ultras are 90% mental and the rest is just in our heads??” 😂 I felt strong all day. I was concerned I would really start to feel the lows but they never came. My wife made all the difference in supporting me during the day. I didn’t have to think about anything but running, she looked after absolutely everything. I couldn’t have done it without her support. It was truly just a great day. As for this course, it’s a 10 out of 10! The volunteers, community and race course are world class. You are very fortunate to have this in your backyard. As for the 100k, you know how to put in the reps. Just sign up for the 100k and commit. 😊 Thanks for the follow! 🙏🏼

Thanks for the video, what was your training volume like? Doing back to back runs?

It depended on which training block I was in. I was averaging about ~40-50 km a per week. I had a few weeks of ~100 kms
