I was only 19 yrs old at that time and didn't even think to take photos of railways. Also a 12 exposure b/w film was very expensive when I was earning £650. annually !!..if only !! What I did do in 1963 was book the Rolling Stones for a works dance,,they cost £95 and came to Morecambe for me...at least I have photos of them

I walked passed Torpantau Station last year. You can just about make out the line of the platform. Hard to believe all those buildings were there!!

During the war my mum went to stay with relatives at Talybont on Usk she was 10 at the time and was accompanied by her 11 year old brother. She doesn't remember much but some American soldiers gave them chewing gum. She can remember getting off at Talybont station and walking through country lanes to Aber village where she stayed near the reservoir

We had relatives living in Talybont on Usk and they used this line.

Amazing contrast between what was either side of the Heads of the Valley Road. North was and remains beautiful. The South was for the most part an industrial wasteland dangerously polluted. Even today after a much work, the scars of its industrial past remain. ( Hats off to the restoration work, I'm not knocking it in any way ) You can still get a train from Cardiff to Rhumney via Caerphilly. I understand there is a line up through Crosskeys to Ebbew Vale. The lines were reopened a number of years back. Not sure why they seem to bypass Newport though.

Until the line closed under Beeching, us kids from Bedwas used to travel to Bedwellty Grammar School school on this train. Also Bedwas and Trethomas kids went to New Tredegar Tech. School on the same train. With no adult supervision, it was wild at times, although I don't remember anyone being killed!!
